Background: Enophthalmos is one of the most distressing complications of orbital fracture, and when faced with a blowout fracture, plastic surgeons often find it difficult to determine the need for surgical correction. Although a number of studies have been conducted on this topic, no study has yet been performed using a set of measurable parameters.
Methods: We quantitatively measured orbital fracture areas (OFA), volumes (OFV), and medial rectus muscle cross-sectional ratios in patients with an isolated medial orbital wall fracture defect during a 5-year period from 2014 to 2018.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate DNA fragmentation status in human spermatozoa according to specific tail swelling patterns determined via hypo-osmotic swelling test (HOST).
Methods: Frozen semen samples from 21 healthy donors were thawed and prepared by the swim-up technique for use in intracytoplasmic sperm injection. The semen samples were treated for 5 minutes as part of the HOST procedure and then underwent the sperm chromatin dispersion test using a Halosperm kit.
Mitochondrial dysfunctions and oxidative stress play important roles in the early pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD), which also involves the aberrant expression levels of mitochondrial proteins. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying the aberrant expression levels of these proteins in the pathogenesis of AD are still not completely understood. Tid1 (DnaJA3/mtHsp40), a mammalian homolog of the Drosophila tumor suppressor Tid56, is reported to induce mitochondrial fragmentation associated with an increase in reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels, resulting in cell death in some cancer cells.

One hundred and twenty growing (56 kg; experiment 1) and 48 nursery piglets (6 kg; experiment 2) were assigned to four dietary treatments in a 2 × 2 factorial design for 35 and 48 days, respectively.

There is a growing body of evidence indicating that 8-oxoG is not only pre-mutagenic, but also plays an essential role in modulating gene expression along with its cognate repair proteins. In this study, we investigated the relationship between 8-oxoG formed under intrinsic oxidative stress conditions and gene expression in adipose and lung tissues of juvenile mice.

This study aimed to evaluate supplemental effects of dietary nucleotides on intestinal health and growth performance in newly weaned pigs. The purpose of this study was to examine the associations of vitamin D status with athletic performance and blood-borne markers in adolescent athletes. This cross-sectional study included forty-seven Taekwondo athletes, aged 15-18 years old. Athletic performance was assessed using maximal oxygen consumption (VO), Wingate anaerobic power test, vertical jump, agility T-test, lower limb muscle strength, and fatigue resistance.

It was recently reported that Sirt1 overexpression in kidney tubule ameliorates cisplatin-induced acute kidney injury (AKI). However, whether pharmacological activation of Sirt1 also has a beneficial effect against the disease remains unclear.

Pig embryonic stem cells (pESCs) have been considered an important candidate for preclinical research on human therapies. However, the lack of understanding of pig pluripotent networks has hampered establishment of authentic pESCs. Here, we report that FGF2, ACTVIN, and WNT signaling are essential to sustain pig pluripotency in vitro.

Accordingly, directly hormone-regulated animal models are widely used for studying PCOS, as they replicate several key PCOS features. However, the pathogenesis and treatment of PCOS are still unclear.

This review covers recent studies on the biological functions of COS and the impacts of dietary chitosan and COS on metabolism. The majority of results suggest that the use of chitosan as a feed additive has favorable biological effects, such as antimicrobial, anti-oxidative, cholesterol reducing, and immunomodulatory effects.

It is recommended that athletes avoid dietary fiber and resistant starch to promote gastric emptying and reduce gastrointestinal distress during exercise, but this diet may reduce microbial diversity and compromise the health of the athlete's gut microbiota.
Objective: This study compared fecal microbiota characteristics using high-throughput sequencing among healthy sedentary men (as controls), bodybuilders, and distance runners, as well as the relationships between microbiota characteristics, body composition, and nutritional status.
Weaning is a crucial period when piglets have to cope with sudden dietary, social, and environmental stressors that often lead to serious intestinal dysbiosis and mortality. In this study, five mucosal and five digesta samples from each proximate jejunum, distal jejunum, and mid-colon were collected from 7- and 27-day post-weaned pigs and subjected to microbiota analysis using 16S rRNA gene profiling. Taxonomic analysis at phylum level revealed that Proteobacteria was significantly higher at 7 days (13.

Abnormal thyroid function is associated with impaired glucose homeostasis. This study aimed to determine whether free thyroxine (FT4) influences the prevalence of prediabetes in euthyroid subjects using a cross-sectional survey derived from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, conducted between 2013 and 2015. We studied 2,399 male participants of >20 years of age who were euthyroid and non-diabetic.

Materials And Methods: In this observational study, 430 fresh IVF/ET cycles were examined from patient data of two university hospital infertility clinics. All included patients were positive for β-human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) at 2 weeks after oocyte retrieval via controlled ovarian stimulation.

The gut microbiota plays important roles in animal health and nutrient digestibility. The characteristics of gut microbiota population in grower pigs and their correlation with apparent nutrient digestibility were assessed in previous study. Here we studied characteristics of intestinal microbiota of sows and analyzed their relationships with apparent nutrient (ether extract (EE), crude protein (CP), crude fiber (CF), neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and acid detergent fiber (ADF)) digestibility.

Methods: Six heterogeneous lung phantoms were fabricated using a 3D-printer (3DISON, ROKIT, Seoul, Korea) to be dosimetrically equivalent to actual target regions of lung SBRT cases treated via gated VMAT. They were designed to move realistically via a motion device (QUASAR, Modus Medical Devices, Canada).

(SDT) is used frequently as a herbal prescription to treat deficiency syndromes in traditional Korean medicine. We investigated the hepatoprotective effects of SDT against oxidative stress and attempted to clarify the underlying molecular mechanisms. SDT pretreatment reduced arachidonic acid (AA) plus iron-mediated cytotoxicity in a concentration-dependent manner and prevented changes in apoptosis-related protein expression.

Feed protein supplements are one of the most expensive and limiting feed ingredients. This review offers a comprehensive analysis of how the expected expansion of animal production, driven by the rising world population and living standards for more animal-sourced foods, is creating a global shortage of feed protein supply. Because ruminants, chickens, and pigs contribute to 96% of the global supply of animal protein and aquaculture is growing fast, means of meeting the feed protein requirements of these species are elaborated.

Protein restriction is associated with extended lifespan and reduced incidence and progression of multiple age-related diseases. The underlying mechanism of metabolic and proteomic responses to the long-term dietary protein restriction, however, has not been fully uncovered. The present study aimed to identify the metabolic and proteomic profiles in a low-protein diet-fed pig model.

Interferon-tau (IFNT), a type I interferon (IFN), is known as pregnancy recognition signaling molecule secreted from the ruminant conceptus during the preimplantation period. Type I IFNs, such as IFN-alpha and IFN-beta, are known to activate cell-death pathways as well as induce apoptosis. In cows, induction of apoptosis with DNA fragmentation is induced by IFNT in cultured bovine endometrial epithelial cells.
