The rapid growth and sustainable production of black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) contribute positively to the circular economy. This study profiled the fatty acid composition of crude BSFL oil, followed by an evaluation of its physicochemical properties under domestic cooking temperatures (up to 180 °C, 30 min). Odour evaluation of the BSFL oil was also performed using 10 trained panellists for attributes such as fishy, nutty, oily, meaty/savoury, roasted, and pungent.

Sensory analysis indicated that peppers were characterised by green, citrus, minty, sweet, woody, and peppery numbing aroma attributes. E-nose revealed the greatest aroma difference in peppers occurred between the early and late optimum harvest stages.

This study explored the effect of harvest periods on the quality of Sichuan pepper at five selected harvest periods (LSA (early harvest), LSB, LSC, LSD, and LSE (late harvest)) along the 24 solar terms in the traditional Chinese lunar calendar. Apart from evaluating their physicochemical and volatile profiles, the growth characteristics, polyphenol and flavonoid contents, antioxidant properties, and free amino acid and other nutrient concentrations in these peppers were also analysed.

A variety of antidiabetic medications have been developed to help manage blood glucose levels in diabetic patients, but adverse reactions and efficacy loss over time have spurred research into new therapeutic agents. In view of this, investigations into the antidiabetic effect of herbal products have been encouraged due to their potential availability, inexpensiveness, and relatively minimal side effects.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAgarwood essential oil (AEO) has gained attention from healthcare industries due to its numerous pharmacological properties. However, a comprehensive understanding of the chemical composition and its cytotoxic property is lacking. The objective of this study was to investigate the chemical profile as well as the cytotoxic concentration range of AEO derived from Aquilaria sinensis agarwood.

A face-centered central composite design was employed to study the effects of three different formulation variables (κ-carrageenan, emulsifier, and oil). The powder yield was found inversely affected by the κ-carrageenan and oil concentration.
