Objectives: To evaluate the incidence of ocular ischemic syndrome (OIS) in patients with asymptomatic Severe Internal Carotid Artery Stenosis or occluded (ipICA-SO).

Design And Methods: 260 patients with ipICA stenosis ≥ 70%, 120 patients with ipsilateral OIS, and 140 with normal ocular condition. The logistic regression analysis was conducted to establish risk prediction models of OIS/Neovascular-OIS/Chronic-OIS for patients with ipICA-SO.

The combustion of plastic waste releases volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that are harmful to human health. However, information on the micro-mechanisms of VOC formation remains lacking. Here, the study hypothesized and verified the relationship between VOC formation and solid component degradation during plastics combustion.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examines the clinical and imaging features of optic neuritis caused by primary systemic vasculitis in patients diagnosed between March 2013 and December 2023.
  • A total of 14 patients were analyzed, with varying types of vasculitis including Takayasu's arteritis, giant cell arteritis, and antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-associated vasculitis, revealing significant involvement of multiple organs.
  • Despite treatment, the results indicated minimal to no improvement in visual acuity, highlighting a poor prognosis tied to potential damage to the optic nerve or blood-brain barrier.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess the effectiveness and safety of traditional vs. computer-aided lens fitting methods for orthokeratology in the Chinese population, involving 280 participants over a year-long period.
  • Participants were randomly assigned to either group, with assessments of visual acuity and other ocular health metrics conducted at the start and after lens use, defining success by specific metrics of visual correction.
  • Results showed that the computer-aided group had a higher success rate for visual correction compared to the traditional group, though both methods had similar outcomes regarding axial length changes and adverse events.

Background: Anti-tumor immunotherapy with immune checkpoint inhibitors induces several immune-related adverse events. Camrelizumab-related isolate abducens neuritis is rare.

Case Presentation: We report on a 67-year-old man with esophageal cancer who presented with acute-onset isolated right abducens cranial nerve palsy after ten cycles of Camrelizumab treatment.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is characterized by islet β-cell dysfunction and insulin resistance, which leads to an inability to maintain blood glucose homeostasis. Circulating microRNAs (miRNAs) have been suggested as novel biomarkers for T2DM prediction or disease progression. However, miRNAs and their roles in the pathogenesis of T2DM remain to be fully elucidated.

To investigate serum microRNA (miRNA) profile and bioinformatics of patients with spleen-deficiency syndrome (SDS) and explore pathogenesis of SDS patients from miRNA levels, 10 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), within which 5 patients were with SDS and the remaining were with blood stasis syndrome (BSS), and 5 healthy volunteers were recruited. Serum miRNA profiles of SDS patients were identified by quantitative PCR array. Target prediction and functional annotation for miRNAs were performed by miRSystem database.
