Retinal neovascularization is one of the most prevalent fundus neovascular diseases, affecting vision and potentially leading to severe complications, such as retinal detachment or irreversible blindness. Current treatments primarily involve intravitreal injections (IVT) of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) agents. However, such treatment often requires repeated injections, develop incomplete responses, and are associated with adverse effects.

Acute lung injury (ALI) is a critical clinical syndrome of the respiratory system, for with a lack of effective preventive/therapeutic strategies. Advances in gutlung axis research have elucidated how the gut drives lung diseases, opening new avenues for acute lung injury intervention. This review synthesizes evidence positioning the gut-lung axis as a dynamic immunomodulatory network to ALI pathogenesis.

With the growing elderly population and increasing incidence of various aging-related diseases, the scientific community is faced with an urgent challenge to identify natural anti-aging agents. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) polysaccharides have been proven to have good anti-aging activities. This article reviews the literature on the anti-aging pathways of traditional Chinese medicine polysaccharides applied to Caenorhabditis elegans models in the past decade.

Detoxifying reactive oxygen species (ROS) that accumulate under saline conditions is crucial for plant salt tolerance. The salt overly sensitive (SOS) pathway functions upstream, while flavonoids act downstream, in ROS scavenging under salt stress. However, the potential crosstalk between the SOS pathway and flavonoids in regulating salt stress responses and the associated mechanisms remain largely unexplored.

Pulsed field ablation (PFA) is a novel nonthermal ablation technique for the treatment of atrial fibrillation (AF) patients, with safety comparable to traditional catheter ablation surgery. The present study aims to evaluate and compare the procedural efficiency and safety profiles of PFA and cryoballoon ablation (CBA) in the management of AF. We performed a systematic search across PubMed, the Cochrane Library, and Embase databases, encompassing the literature up to February 2024, to inform our systematic review and meta-analysis.

Article Synopsis
  • - Benthic diatoms are key primary producers on sandy coasts, playing a critical role in the micro-food web and marine ecosystems; changes in their structure and biomass can significantly affect these environments.
  • - A study at four beaches in southern China found that factors like elevation, salinity, sediment composition, and hydrodynamics influence the distribution of benthic diatom communities, with elevation being the most crucial factor.
  • - Results revealed that diatom abundance varies by tidal zones, with mid-tidal areas on certain beaches promoting higher growth, while low tidal terrace beaches have distinct patterns of abundance related to their specific landforms.

Background And Aim: The acute pulmonary infectious disease caused by influenza viruses is known as influenza virus pneumonia (IVP). In recent years, Gegen Qinlian Decoction (GQD) has been widely used to treat pulmonary inflammation; however, the underlying mechanism of action of GQD in IVP remains unclear. This study aimed to elucidate the molecular mechanism through which GQD improved IVP.

Background: The incidence of depression is increasing year by year, and Zhizichi Decoction(ZZCD)has shown significant efficiency in the clinical treatment of mild depression, but its mechanism of action is still unclear. In this research, network pharmacology and metagenomics combined and metabolomics were used as research methods to explain the scientific connotation of the antidepressant effect of ZZCD from the aspects of the overall effect of organisms and microbial structure and function.

Methods: The rat model of depression was established by chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS), and the improvement of depressive symptoms was evaluated by behavioral and histopathological methods.

Clarithromycin retained in waste activated sludge (WAS) inevitably enters the anaerobic digestion system. So far, the complex impacts and fate of clarithromycin in continuous operated WAS anaerobic digestion system are still unclear. In this study, two semi-continuous long-term reactors were set up to investigate the effect of clarithromycin on biogas production and antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) during WAS anaerobic digestion, and a batch test was carried out to explore the potential metabolic mechanism.

The macrolide antibiotic roxithromycin is widely detected in varying aquatic environments, especially in the wastewater systems, as an emerging contaminant and leads to significant impacts on the microorganisms involved. In this study, the impact of a shock load of roxithromycin on waste activated sludge (WAS) anaerobic digestion was comprehensively investigated. The biochemical methane potential tests showed that the methane production from WAS anaerobic digestion was significantly inhibited by roxithromycin.
