The odor fingerprint of Pollygonati Rhizoma samples with different mildewing degrees was analyzed and the relationship between the odor variation and the mildewing degree was explored. A fast discriminant model was established according to the response intensity of electronic nose. The α-FOX3000 electronic nose was applied to analyze the odor fingerprint of Pollygonati Rhizoma samples with different mildewing degrees and the radar map was used to analyze the main contributors among the volatile organic compounds.

Article Synopsis
  • Nutmeg is a popular spice and Chinese herbal medicine, but it is susceptible to mildew during storage due to its volatile components and fatty oils.
  • This study used an electronic nose (E-nose) to quickly and reliably detect different levels of mildew in nutmeg samples.
  • The findings showed that the E-nose results were consistent with chemical analyses (HPLC and GC-MS), leading to the creation of a model that categorizes nutmeg samples into mildew-free, slight mildew, and mildew, demonstrating E-nose's potential for quality evaluation in herbal medicines.

Serum lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) concentrations correlate with tumor progression and poor outcome. We evaluated the predictive value of serum LDH level for overall survival (OS) of patients with advanced pancreatic cancer after gemcitabine-based chemotherapy. We retrospectively enrolled 364 patients with locally advanced or metastatic pancreatic adenocarcinoma who were then allocated to training (n = 139) and validation cohorts (n = 225).

Methyl valerate (MVA) pathway is one of the important ways for synthesis of terpenoids. This study was based on data of the transcriptome sequencing of Magnolia officinalis, the associated genes MoACOT, MoHMGS, MoHMGR, MoMK in methyl valerate (MVA) pathway, were completed in detail by using bioinformatics methods. The results of analysis showed that MoACOT and MoMK were stable hydrophobic proteins, MoHMGS and MoHMGR were unstable hydrophobic protein.
