Osteoarthritis (OA) is the main joint disease associated with aging. Previous studies have confirmed that both osteopontin (OPN) and αvβ3 integrin are involved in the progression of knee OA. The purpose of this study was to determine the expression of OPN and αvβ3 integrin and chondrocyte senescence levels in OA.

Article Synopsis
  • Nutmeg is a popular spice and Chinese herbal medicine, but it is susceptible to mildew during storage due to its volatile components and fatty oils.
  • This study used an electronic nose (E-nose) to quickly and reliably detect different levels of mildew in nutmeg samples.
  • The findings showed that the E-nose results were consistent with chemical analyses (HPLC and GC-MS), leading to the creation of a model that categorizes nutmeg samples into mildew-free, slight mildew, and mildew, demonstrating E-nose's potential for quality evaluation in herbal medicines.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to study the effects of the GAS5/microRNA-10b (miR-10b) axis on proliferation, migration, and apoptosis of colorectal cancer (CRC).

Methods: The expression levels of GAS5 and miR-10b in CRC tissues and cells were detected by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). Wound healing experiment was used to detect the effects of GAS5 and miR-10b on the migration of CRC cells.

This study adopted headspace-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(HS-GC-MS) and electronic nose to detect volatile components from Myristicae Semen samples with varying degrees of mildew, aiming at rapidly identifying odor changes and substance basis of Myristicae Semen mildew. The experimental data were analyzed by electronic nose and principal component analysis(PCA). The results showed that Myristicae Semen samples were divided into the following three categories by electronic nose and PCA: mildew-free samples, slightly mildewy samples, and mildewy samples.

Following the publication of the above article, the authors have requested that it be retracted. They alerted the Editorial Office to the fact that the same data, albeit with a different view, had been selected to show the 'CON' and 'NC' experiments for the colony‑formation assays featured in Fig. 6.

The spontaneous rupture of an unscarred uterus at 28 gestational weeks is an extremely rare event, particularly when associated with an intact amniotic sac extrusion and fetal leg entrapment, which has not been previously reported. A 27-year-old primigravid woman was referred to our department, due to perpetual abdominal pain, at 28 weeks and 5 days of gestation. The patient, G3p0, had previously undergone two induced abortions.

The complete genome sequence of strain DM2 isolated from petroleum-contaminated soil on the Tibetan Plateau was determined. The genome of strain DM2 consists of a circular chromosome of 4,238,631 bp for 4458 protein-coding genes and a plasmid of 84,240 bp coding for 103 genes. Thirty-four genomic islands coding for 330 proteins and 5 prophages are found in the genome.

A Gram-stain-positive, aerobic, non-motile and mycolic-acid-containing strain, designated Y48, was isolated from soil contaminated by crude oil located in the northern margin of the Qaidam Basin. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strain Y48 belongs to the genus Nocardia and is closely related to N. cummidelens DSM 44490 (99.

The present study investigated the maneuverability and reasonability of sensory analysis, which has been applied in TCM identification for a long time. Ten assessors were trained and generated the human panel to carry out the organoleptic evaluation of twenty-five batches of Sha-Ren samples. Accordingly, samples were scored from 0 (lowest) to 10 (highest) for sensory attributes.

Aim: To evaluate the effects of hydrotalcite combined with esomeprazole on gastric ulcer healing quality.

Methods: Forty-eight patients diagnosed with gastric ulcer between June 2014 and February 2016 were randomly allocated to the combination therapy group or monotherapy group. The former received hydrotalcite combined with esomeprazole, and the latter received esomeprazole alone, for 8 wk.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of plasmid-mediated RNA interference targeting of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) on the biological behaviors of SKOV3 human ovarian cancer cells and to analyze the function of COX-2 in carcinogenesis and development of ovarian cancer. A COX-2 small hairpin (sh)RNA sequence was designed and synthesized and pGPU6-COX-2-shRNA plasmids were constructed. The recombinant vector plasmids were stably transfected into SKOV3 cells.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to explore the mutations of the p53 gene and the expression of the p21 protein in tree shrews undergoing liver cancer development (hepatocarcinogenesis) due to hepatitis B virus (HBV) and aflatoxin B(1) (AFB(1)).
  • Four groups of tree shrews were set up: those infected with HBV and AFB(1), infected with HBV only, fed AFB(1) only, and a normal control group; results showed that the highest incidence of liver tumors was in the HBV + AFB(1) group.
  • Findings revealed that p53 mutations were observed in tree shrews with tumors, with specific
