Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is a common multi-factorial liver disease, and its incidence is gradually increasing worldwide. Many reports have revealed that intestinal flora plays a crucial role for the occurrence and development of MASLD, through mechanisms such as flora translocation, endogenous ethanol production, dysregulation of choline metabolism and bile acid, and endotoxemia. Here, we review the relationship between intestinal flora and MASLD, as well as interventions for MASLD, such as prebiotics, probiotics, synbiotics, and intestinal flora transplantation.

Visceral condition assessment through digital tongue image analysis.

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has long utilized tongue diagnosis as a crucial method for assessing internal visceral condition. This study aims to modernize this ancient practice by developing an automated system for analyzing tongue images in relation to the five organs, corresponding to the heart, liver, spleen, lung, and kidney-collectively known as the "five viscera" in TCM. We propose a novel tongue image partitioning algorithm that divides the tongue into four regions associated with these specific organs, according to TCM principles.

Methods: This is a mixed-method acceptability evaluation was embedded in a randomized controlled trial on self-administered acupressure for KOA. Participants received two 2-h training sessions on self-administered acupressure and were instructed to practice twice daily for 12 weeks.

Free Cholesterol-Induced Liver Injury in Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease: Mechanisms and a Therapeutic Intervention Using Dihydrotanshinone I.

Build-up of free cholesterol (FC) substantially contributes to the development and severity of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Here, we investigate the specific mechanism by which FC induces liver injury in NAFLD and propose a novel therapeutic approach using dihydrotanshinone I (DhT). Rather than cholesterol ester (CE), we observed elevated levels of total cholesterol, FC, and alanine transaminase (ALT) in NAFLD patients and high-cholesterol diet-induced NAFLD mice compared to those in healthy controls.

Background: Post-stroke dysphagia can lead to serious complications and appropriate rehabilitation can significantly improve swallowing function. However, the best rehabilitation method for post-stroke dysphagia patients is not clear at the present stage, so it is necessary to conduct a comprehensive network meta-analysis and systematic review of different interventions for dysphagia.

Pediatric is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) modality that is well-accepted and applied in China currently. As a traditional medicine, it is based on TCM theories and clinical experience. In the TCM area, the "self-healing" system of the human body includes two aspects: self-regulation and adaptation, through which pediatric could rectify dysfunctional states and guide the transition back to homeostasis.

This study aims to develop an automatic diagnosis method for CTEPH using non-contrasted computed tomography (NCCT) scans, enabling automated diagnosis without precise lesion annotation.A novel cascade network (CN) with multiple instance learning (CNMIL) framework was developed to improve the diagnosis of CTEPH.

Evaluating the effectiveness of video-game based swallowing function training in patients with dysphagia: study protocol for a randomized controlled trial.

Background: Dysphagia can lead to serious complications such as aspiration and aspiration pneumonia, timely and effective rehabilitation training can improve the swallowing function of patients. However, the conventional rehabilitation training methods used in clinical settings have shortcomings such as poor adherence of patients. We present the study design of a randomized controlled trial that evaluated whether video-game based swallowing rehabilitation training can effectively improve swallowing in patients with dysphagia and whether it has additional benefits compared with conventional training methods to improve swallowing function and training compliance among patients with dysphagia.

Methods: A cross-sectional online survey was conducted during the fourth wave of the COVID-19 outbreak in Hong Kong ( = 988). Participants' insomnia, psychological distress, and exercise frequency were evaluated.
