In the absence of treatment, detection of pathogenic RNA viruses and quarantine of infected individuals are critical for controlling the infection spread. Conventional antibody-based methods often lack the required accuracy and sensitivity, due to the need for a substantial amount of viral antigens. Similarly, traditional reverse transcription real-time polymerase chain reaction methods face challenges in providing timely results due to their multiple thermal nucleic acid amplification steps.

The increasing demand for visual data processing reveals the limitations of traditional electronic systems in speed, energy efficiency, and adaptability. While optical computing offers a promising alternative, current systems often lack the flexibility required for multispectral and adaptive visual tasks. Here, we present an efficient way for highly adaptive, multispectral image filtering based on active Tamm plasmon resonators.

The aim of the present study was to elucidate the correlation between the International Caries Detection and Assessment System (ICDAS) and the Snyder caries activity test (SCAT) for the assessment of early dental caries in preschool children. Dental health status of 153 children aged 3-5 years was evaluated by oral examination. The ICDAS stage (enamel opacity stage to cavitated dentine caries stage (stages 1-6)) was assigned based on the evaluation of each tooth surface by a trained dentist based on the number of decayed (d) and filled teeth (ft).

Article Synopsis
  • The study compared outcomes of medium to large rotator cuff repairs using three techniques: single-row (SR) repair, double-row suture bridge (DRSB) with conventional sutures, and DRSB with tape-like sutures.
  • In a retrospective analysis of 135 patients, the DRSB with tape had the highest re-tear rate at 16%, but differences in re-tear rates among the three groups were not statistically significant.
  • Functional improvement post-surgery was observed across all groups, but no significant differences in outcomes were found, indicating that the tape-like sutures did not provide a clinical advantage over conventional sutures.

A biofilm is a three-dimensional microbial community, which is difficult to completely control with a typical sanitizer owing to its complex structure. The aim of this study was to establish a system for the combined treatment of biofilms with 10 ppmv gaseous chlorine dioxide (ClO) and antimicrobial agents (2% citric acid, 2% hydrogen peroxide [HO], and 100 ppm peracetic acid [PAA]), and to investigate the synergistic microbicidal efficacy of the combination treatments to inactivate Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella Typhimurium, and Escherichia coli O157:H7 in biofilms. The antimicrobial agents were aerosolized using a humidifier on top of a chamber to achieve a relative humidity of 90% (within a range of ±2%).

Arthroscopic superior capsular reconstruction is gaining popularity in managing irreparable rotator cuff tears in younger patients without arthrosis. One of many reasons for the increase in this trend is the simplification of technique using allograft and knotless technology for fixation. Despite all this, turbulence control and suture management are still arduous undertakings.

Wastewater surveillance (WWS) has been globally recognised to be a useful tool in quantifying SARS-CoV-2 RNA at the community and residential levels without biases associated with case-reporting. The emergence of variants of concern (VOCs) have given rise to an unprecedented number of infections even though populations are increasingly vaccinated. This is because VOCs have been reported to possess higher transmissibility and can evade host immune responses.

Background: Despite the increasing attention to electronic health management information systems (HMISs) in global health, most African countries still depend on inefficient paper-based systems. Good Neighbors International and Evaluate 4 Health have recently supported the Ghana Health Service on the rollout of a mobile health-based HMIS called the e-Tracker system in 2 regions in Ghana. The e-Tracker is an Android-based tracker capture app that electronically manages maternal and child health (MCH) data.
