Strength training can be a beneficial form of physical activity (PA), but little research has examined how autistic individuals experience it or what makes programs accessible and supportive. Therefore, the purpose of this study was twofold: (1) to explore autistic young adults' experiences with strength training, and (2) examine their recommendations for designing programs that meet their needs. Thirteen autistic young adults (ages 22-25) participated in semi-structured interviews about their strength training experiences and preferences for program design.

Background: Financial toxicity is a well-documented consequence of cancer care and may disproportionately impact patients with hematologic malignancies due to the high cost and intensity of hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT). This population is particularly vulnerable to the psychological consequences of financial toxicity; however, the longitudinal relationship between financial toxicity and psychological well-being-particularly positive psychological well-being-remains understudied.

Objective: To assess longitudinal associations between financial toxicity and patient-reported psychological distress (anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder [PTSD] symptoms), positive psychological well-being (PPWB), coping, and quality of life (QOL) in patients with hematologic malignancies who received allogeneic HSCT.

Background: We describe a longitudinal mixed methods program evaluation protocol for a novel peer-led housing program for older men transitioning from prison to the community after completing long sentences of incarceration. The program departs from traditional community corrections models by providing peer-run housing designed to build and enhance peer and community social ties. This previously untested program relies on the principles of network alteration and provides a case study for examining interpersonal mechanisms underlying behavioral health and justice related outcomes.

Background: Diarrheal pathogens, such as Cryptosporidium, impose a heavy burden of disease in resource-limited regions. Cryptosporidiosis often causes chronic infection in immunocompromised people and gastrointestinal injury in malnourished children, leading to wasting, stunting, and cognitive impairment. Current treatment for cryptosporidiosis fails in these vulnerable populations, highlighting the need for new medicines.

This review addresses the integration of chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T cell therapy with reconstructive oncologic surgery in treating peripheral solid tumors, including melanoma, sarcomas, breast cancer, and head and neck cancers. While CAR-T cells have demonstrated effectiveness in blood cancers, their efficacy in solid tumors has been limited due to tumor heterogeneity, immune suppression, and poor cellular infiltration. Emerging approaches involving localized CAR-T cell delivery, improved CAR design, and targeted antigen selection (such as HER2, MUC1, GD2, and B7-H3) are discussed as promising strategies to enhance therapeutic outcomes.

Background: Approximately 20% of flap surgeries in people with spinal cord injury/disorder and stage III and IV pressure injury result in a major complication requiring re-surgery. Although several factors are associated with postoperative complications according to the literature, there is no risk prediction model for major postoperative complications in the treatment of stage III and IV pressure injuries in people with spinal cord injury/disorder.

Study Aim: The study aims to predict the risk of major postoperative complications in people with spinal cord injury/disorder and stage III and IV pressure injury at hospital admission.

Young adulthood is a key period for establishing lifelong physical activity (PA) habits, yet little is known about how autistic young adults experience PA. The purpose of this study was to explore how autistic young adults make sense of their PA experiences and the meanings they ascribe to those experiences. Thirteen autistic young adults (ages 22-25) participated in semi-structured interviews about their PA experiences.

Since sourcing porcine blood donors for emergent transfusions to porcine patients is difficult, bovine or canine blood donors might represent alternative sources. The primary objective of this study was to determine the frequency of incompatible major (CMMa) and minor (CMMi) crossmatches by the standard saline agglutination tube method (SSA) between bovine whole blood (bWB) and whole blood from commercial pigs (pWB), and canine universal donor whole blood or commercially-prepared packed red blood cells (pRBCs) with whole blood from companion pigs. A secondary objective was determining the agreement between the reference method (SSA) and a quick slide (QS) method.

Background: Breast reduction surgery has been recognized for its potential to improve quality of life in patients with macromastia or after unilateral oncological treatment. However, comparative analysis of different surgical techniques remains sparse. Patient-reported outcome measures have emerged as indispensable tools in assessing patient satisfaction and postoperative outcomes.

Background: Peer support is emerging as an important component of supportive care for patients with hematologic malignancies, but it has not been robustly implemented in patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT).

Objectives: This qualitative study aimed to explore the experiences of peer support interventionists (participants) delivering a structured, 5-session, phone-delivered peer support intervention, the Supporting Transplant Experiences with Peer Program (STEPP) for patients undergoing HSCT.

Methods: Adult patients who underwent allogeneic or autologous HSCT for the treatment of a hematologic malignancy within the past 3 years were eligible to volunteer in this study as trained STEPP interventionists.

Introduction: Costochondral grafting is well-known reconstructive option for the temporomandibular joint. In the upper extremity, non-vascularized costochondral grafts have been used for radial head reconstruction, for osteoarthritis of the trapeziometacarpal joint and proximal pole reconstruction of the scaphoid. Evidence suggests that vascularization of bone grafts lead to a higher union rate and a faster time to union.

Breast augmentation is a popular cosmetic procedure that is generally considered safe. However, the rising trend of nonspecialists performing these procedures has increased the risk of complications, including rare but serious acute bleeding. We present a case of a healthy 22-year-old patient who experienced acute bleeding after bilateral breast augmentation by a nonplastic surgeon, resulting in massive hypovolemic shock that required 27 packed red blood cell (PRBC) transfusions and led to acute cardiopulmonary failure.

The current study draws from literature on Multiracial ethnic-racial identity development processes and utilizes logistic regression models to identify what factors inform ethnic-racial self-categorization choices when confronted with a monoracial paradigm of race in a sample of Biracial high school students. Separate logistic regression models analyzed how family ethnic-racial socialization, phenotype, friend groups, and experiences with discrimination are associated with the racial category for Biracial White, Asian, Black, Native American, and Latinx youth, respectively, when asked to choose just one racial background. Results suggest that the associations of family ethnic-racial socialization, experiences with discrimination, and skin color with self-categorization vary in directionality and strength for different groups of Biracial adolescents.

Although more and more transgender individuals are receiving gender-affirming medical interventions, there are limited data on patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs). We assessed PROMs in patients who received genital gender affirmation surgery (gGAS) with vaginoplasty by conventional penile inversion (PI) or urethral flap (UF). Consecutive patients undergoing vaginoplasty by PI or UF between 2015 and 2021 were candidates for this questionnaire-based cohort study.

Background: The majority of published reference intervals for hematology and clinical biochemistry in pigs are generated from a sample group that is demographically different from companion pigs, and as such may not be transferable. The goals of this study were to provide reference intervals generated from sexually mature companion pigs and to compare results based on age group, breed, and reproductive status. Reference intervals are ideally generated in the same laboratory in which patient samples are measured, since there is often bias in values generated from different instruments, but the cost and time commitment required to produce reference intervals may be prohibitive.

Purpose: Microsurgical reconstruction, including vascularized lymph node transfer (VLNT) and lymphaticovenous anastomosis (LVA), have emerged as promising treatment options for chronic breast cancer-related lymphedema (BCRL). Despite their clinical relevance, the precise timelines for patient improvement following these interventions remain rather unexplored. Therefore, the goal of this study was to compare the long-term outcomes and improvement patterns over time of VLNT versus LVA to lay open potential differences and aid in personalized counseling of future patients.
