Efficacy of intralesional platelet-rich plasma versus intralesional corticosteroids in the management oral lichen planus: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials using random effects and weighted least square methods.

Aim: This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to compare the efficacy of intralesional platelet-rich plasma and intralesional steroids in managing oral lichen planus, focusing on pain and lesion size reduction.

Methodology: A systematic search of MEDLINE (via PubMed), Web of Science, Scopus, and Embase was conducted up to May 30, 2024, to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing the efficacy of intralesional platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and intralesional steroids in managing oral lichen planus (OLP). The study adhered to a predefined PICOS framework: (P) adults diagnosed with OLP, (I) PRP application, (C) steroid application, (O) outcomes related to pain reduction and lesion size, and (S) RCTs.

Granular Cell Ameloblastoma: A Rare Threat Requiring Vigilance and Lifelong Follow-Up.

This case report describes a 45-year-old male who presented with mobility and dull pain in the lower right back tooth region for two months. Initially diagnosed with localized periodontitis at a private clinic, the patient sought a second opinion. Clinical examination revealed slight obliteration of the buccal vestibule and mobility in teeth 45 and 46.

The Unforeseen Revelation of Dentigerous Cyst.

Dentigerous cysts frequently develop as odontogenic cysts in the oral cavity that can occasionally progress to neoplasms. Tumor from dentigerous cysts is uncommon, with only 42 occurrences documented in the literature. This case report describes a 73-year-old male who developed primary intraosseous squamous cell carcinoma after a dentigerous cyst.

Lived experiences of medical students of online learning: lessons for adopting virtual learning in medical education.

Background: The COVID 19 lockdown created a shift in medical education from the traditional physical classroom to online learning.

Objectives: To explore the lived experiences of students in various years of medical education attending a medical college in Chennai, India.

Methods: In this qualitative exploration of lived experiences we conducted 4 focus group discussions among students of the four years in the medical college with the help of a checklist.

The ASGLOS Study: A global survey on how predatory journals affect scientific practice.

Predatory journals and conferences are an emerging problem in scientific literature as they have financial motives, without guaranteeing scientific quality and exposure. The main objective of the ASGLOS project is to investigate the predatory e-email characteristics, management, and possible consequences and to analyse the extent of the current problem at each academic level. To collect the personal experiences of physicians' mailboxes on predatory publishing, a Google Form® survey was designed and disseminated from September 2021 to April 2022.

Background: Globally, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is one of the most common psychiatric illnesses following a disaster. We aimed to evaluate the relationship between the socio-economic and flood exposure factors with PTSD, depression and anxiety among the flood-affected populations in Kerala, India.

Methods: A cross-sectional household survey was conducted from November 2019 to January 2020 in Kozhikode district of Kerala, India.

The Significance of Tinospora crispa in Treatment of Diabetes Mellitus.

Tinospora crispa is a medicinal plant belonging to the botanical family Menispermiaceae. The plant is widely distributed in Southeast Asia and the northeastern region of India. A related species Tinospora cordifolia is used in Ayurveda for treating a large spectrum of diseases.

Imprint cytology.

A valuable information on morphological details of the cell can be obtained through imprint cytology. Though it has some pitfalls, it is still considered to be one of the best methods as it provides an excellent cytological clarity in fresh surgical specimens. This article shares knowledge about the procedure, uses, advantages and disadvantages of imprint cytology.

Genodermatoses.

Genodermatoses are an inherited disorder, present with multisystem involvement. Help us to identify regular mutations and appalling skin diseases with recessive inheritance. Genetic heterogeneity is very common, and molecular diagnosis requires a broad effort.

Apoptosis in immune-mediated diseases.

Burning mouth syndrome.

Burning mouth syndrome (BMS) is a complex disorder that is characterized by warm or burning sensation in the oral mucosa without changes on physical examination. It occurs more commonly in middle-aged and elderly women and often affects the tip of the tongue, lateral borders, lips, hard and soft palate. This condition is probably of multi-factorial origin, often idiopathic, and its etiopathogensis is unknown.

Serum ferritin level and red blood cell parameters in healthy controls and chronic periodontitis patients.

Periodontitis, which is a chronic inflammatory disease causes reduction in the number of erythrocytes and hemoglobin. It is found to be caused by specific pathogenic subgingival plaque bacteria. Periodontitis is host mediated through release of pro inflammatory cytokines by local tissues and immune cells in response to bacterial flora and its products, especially lipopolysacharides.

Naturally occurring products in cancer therapy.

Natural products have been used for the treatment of various diseases and are becoming an important research area for drug discovery. These products, especially phytochemicals have been extensively studies and have exhibited anti-carcinogenic activities by interfering with the initiation, development and progression of cancer through the modulation of various mechanisms including cellular proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, angiogenesis, and metastasis. This concept is gaining attention because it is a cost-effective alternative to cancer treatment.

Oral lichen planus: An overview.

Lichen planus is an immunologically mediated mucocutaneous disease that is triggered by varied etiological agents. The oral lichenoid reaction is considered a variant of the disease that needs to be clearly diagnosed as a separate entity from oral lichen planus and treated. They follow a strict cause-effector relationship, protocols that suggest the differentiation.

Ghost cell lesions.

Ghost cells have been a controversy for a long time. Ghost cell is a swollen/enlarged epithelial cell with eosnophilic cytoplasm, but without a nucleus. In routine H and E staining these cells give a shadowy appearance.

Background: Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in the world and by far the most frequent cancer among women.

Objective: The present study was undertaken to assess the awareness of breast cancer warning signs and screening methods among the women of Pokhara valley, Nepal.

Materials And Methods: A cross-sectional questionnaire survey was carried out in a community setting with the female population.

Estimation of salivary amylase in diabetic patients and saliva as a diagnostic tool in early diabetic patients.

Aim: The aim of this study was to estimate the salivary amylase levels in non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus patients and to correlate these findings with those in normal individuals, in order to provide salivary amylase level as a bio-chemical indicator for diagnosing and monitoring the glucose levels.

Material And Methods: The study samples consisted of 60 individuals. Both males and females participated in the study.

Statistical modelling and forecasting of cervix cancer cases in radiation oncology treatment: a hospital based study from Western Nepal.

Background: To estimate the numbers and trends in cervix cancer cases visiting the Radiotherapy Department at Manipal Teaching Hospital, Pokhara, Nepal, statistical modelling from retrospective data was applied.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective study was carried out on data for a total of 159 patients treated for cervix cancer at Manipal Teaching Hospital, Pokhara, Nepal, between 28th September 2000 and 31st December 2008. Theoretical statistics were used for statistical modelling and forecasting.

Variation in the roots and root canal anatomy seems to be the norm rather than an exception. For a successful endodontic treatment, a clinician should have a thorough knowledge of the internal and external dental anatomy and its variations. Maxillary lateral incisors usually exhibit single canal with a single root.
