Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) offers distinct advantages in the treatment of tumors, since it serves dually as both a medicinal treatment and a dietary therapy. Elephantopus scaber (E. scaber), with a plethora of folk medicinal usage for treating pneumonia and hepatitis, contains sesquiterpene lactone (SL) as the primary component for therapeutic efficacy.

We report the structure, magnetic and electrical/thermal transport properties of the antiferromagnet MnSn. Importantly, the existence of the two antiferromagnetic states below (∼320 K) is confirmed by magnetism and electrical transport measurements. An unsaturated positive magnetoresistance up to 150% at ∼9 was observed at 5 K, whereas the magnetoresistance becomes negative in the whole range at high temperatures ( > 74 K).

Single-phase antiperovskite nitride GeNCo3 with space group Pm3̅m is successfully synthesized by a solid-gas reaction. The crystal structure, magnetism, specific heat at low temperatures, Hall effect, and electrical and thermal transport properties are widely investigated. Exhilaratingly, a canonical spin-glass (SG) behavior is observed in GeNCo3 with a freezing temperature T0 = 79.

The methods that detect histidine phosphorylation have largely been either laborious or difficult to apply quantitatively. The major difficulty in assessing for its presence is its alkali-stable, acid-labile nature. While an assay that detects alkali-stable phosphorylation has been developed, it does not distinguish phosphohistidine from other alkali-stable phosphoamino acids.

BACKGROUND: The clinical significance of TT virus (TTV) coinfection in chronic hepatitis C (CHC) patients and influence of TTV viremia on hepatitis C virus (HCV) response to high dose interferon-alpha therapy in Taiwan were investigated. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Total 102 HCV RNA-positive CHC patients were enrolled. TTV DNA (using polymerase chain reaction primers derived from 5' non-coding region and open reading frame 2), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), GB virus-C/hepatitis G virus (GBV-C/HGV) RNA, anti-E2 antibody, genotype and RNA levels of HCV were tested.
