Background: Enteric infections are hypothesized to be associated with intussusception in children. A small increase in intussusception following rotavirus vaccination has been seen in some settings. We conducted post-marketing surveillance for intussusception following rotavirus vaccine, Rotavac introduction in India and evaluated association of intussusception with enteric pathogens.

Article Synopsis
  • The study looked at how well parents follow safety rules for their kids aged 1 to 5 and why they don't.
  • Out of 120 kids, many were injured, with falls and burns being the most common types.
  • Most families (72.5%) didn't follow safety rules well, especially around wearing helmets, using seatbelts, and avoiding choking foods, mostly because they thought some rules were unnecessary or didn't know enough about them.

Context: Despite advances in neonatal intensive care, surgical methods, and anesthesia, congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) is still associated with significant mortality. Predicting which babies will have poorer outcomes is essential to identify the high-risk babies and to give targeted care and accurate prognosis to the parents, especially in a resource crunch set-up.

Aims: The aim of this study is to evaluate the antenatal and postnatal prognostic factors in neonatal CDH that can be used to predict the outcome.

Purpose: Pelvi-ureteric junction obstruction (PUJO) is the leading cause for hydronephrosis in children. Diuretic renography used in the pre- and post-operative evaluation of pyeloplasty may not be reliable in predicting the outcome.

Methods: A prospective study was conducted from October 2018 to November 2020, including all children with unilateral PUJO undergoing Pyeloplasty.

Oncocytic adrenocortical tumours (OATs) or oncocytomas are extremely rare and are usually benign and nonfunctional. We report the case of a 4-year-old male with a right-sided, functional oncocytic adrenocortical adenoma, who presented with precocious puberty and Cushing's syndrome. After work-up, the patient underwent laparoscopic adrenalectomy.

Background: A three-dose, oral rotavirus vaccine (Rotavac) was introduced in the universal immunization program in India in 2016. A prelicensure trial involving 6799 infants was not large enough to detect a small increased risk of intussusception. Postmarketing surveillance data would be useful in assessing whether the risk of intussusception would be similar to the risk seen with different rotavirus vaccines used in other countries.

Background: Congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract (CAKUT) are a group of disorders responsible for the majority of pediatric end-stage renal disease cases. There are only a few studies on CAKUT.

Objectives: A study was conducted to determine the clinical and biochemical profile of children with CAKUT and to estimate the prevalence and the factors associated with hypertension in CAKUT.

Method: A retrospective study was performed including data collected from the patients who were admitted in Pediatric surgery with major grade renal injury (grade 3 and more) from January 2015 to August 2018. Demography, clinical parameters, management, duration of hospital stay and final outcome were noted.

Introduction: Children with solitary functioning kidney (SFK) are prone to develop long term problems, which are not well represented in the literature. The extent to which the presence of associated congenital anomalies of kidney and urinary tract (CAKUT) further de-stabilize renal function is to be addressed.

Objective: This study was conducted to evaluate the etiology, presentation, presence of CAKUT, and renal damage in children with SFK.
