Background: The tip-detection method and the retrograde approach have been acknowledged as a second-line strategies for chronic total occlusion (CTO) percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) when conventional antegrade wiring strategies are ineffective. The aim of this study is to compare the efficacy between both strategies for complex CTO PCI.

Methods: We retrospectively enrolled 170 consecutive CTO PCI cases and separated them into 295 adopted strategies.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to compare the safety and effectiveness of transluminal foam sclerotherapy combined with endovenous laser ablation (EVLA) against EVLA alone for treating small saphenous vein incompetence, focusing on changes in the venous clinical severity score (VCSS) over one year.
  • - Researchers conducted the study by using a sheath for foam sclerotherapy during the EVLA procedure, assessing various outcomes such as VCSS changes, reflux recurrence, and complications at multiple time points after treatment.
  • - Results indicated that while the change in VCSS wasn't significantly impactful, the combination treatment (TLFS + EVLA) led to lower rates of residual or recurrent reflux compared to EVLA alone, suggesting TLFS

Article Synopsis
  • The study introduced a new method called tip detection (TD) combined with a special wire (CP12ST) to enhance the effectiveness of treating chronic total occlusion (CTO) in coronary procedures.
  • Researchers compared the success rates and procedural times of the TD method with an existing technique (Stingray) using a different wire (CP20) in 54 total cases.
  • The findings showed that the TD method led to a significantly higher success rate (100% vs 67%) and shorter procedural times (145 minutes vs 185 minutes), with few complications in both groups.

Article Synopsis
  • The study analyzed how different ultrasound frequency settings affect the accuracy of measuring global longitudinal strain (GLS) using 2D speckle tracking echocardiography (2DSTE) in 162 patients.
  • Three frequency presets were used: high resolution (HRES), general (HGEN), and penetration mode (HPEN), leading to significant variations in the GLS measurements among the different settings (p < 0.0001).
  • Overall, while frequency settings influenced GLS results slightly, the measurements remained reliable across various conditions, suggesting that GLS can be effectively assessed regardless of the ultrasound frequency used.

Background: In shoulder surgery, low-virulence bacteria such as Cutibacterium acnes and coagulase-negative staphylococci can cause postoperative infection. However, the degree of sterility during surgery after disinfection is not known, and the efficacy of double skin preparation for such bacteria is unclear. This study aimed to evaluate chronological changes in the surgical field contamination rate in the shoulder joint and to compare single and double skin preparation.

Background/aim: Micropapillary pattern is a morphologically distinctive form of carcinoma composed of small, hollow, or morula-like clusters of cancer cells surrounded by clear stromal spaces. The neoplastic cells characteristically display a reverse polarity, also known as an ''inside-out'' growth pattern, that is linked to higher frequencies of lymphovascular invasion and lymph nodal metastasis. To the best of our knowledge, it has not been previously recognized in uterine corpus.

Retained products of conception (RPOC) is a condition in which trophoblastic tissue remains in the uterus after pregnancy, causing massive hemorrhage in some cases. Though RPOC is commonly treated by intrauterine curettage or hysteroscopic resection uterine artery embolization or hysterectomy may be performed in case of massive bleeding. We experienced two cases of RPOC after surgery for missed abortion that failed to respond to conservative treatment and required surgical treatment.
