Background: The implementation of intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) and mechanical thrombectomy (MT) in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) has proven effective, offering significant benefits for patient outcomes. We therefore investigated trends in the implementation of IVT and MT in Germany between 2015 and 2023.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis using German Diagnosis-Related Group (DRG) statistics from 2015 to 2023.
The objective of the present study was to evaluate the association between liver cirrhosis (LC) and subsequent Heart failure (HF). This retrospective cohort study utilized data from the Disease Analyzer database (IQVIA) and included adults with a first-time diagnosis of LC in 1293 general practices in Germany between January 2005 and December 2023. A comparison cohort without liver diseases was matched to the cirrhosis group using 5:1 propensity score matching.

However, whether SGLT2 inhibitors are also associated with a reduced risk of tinnitus has not been investigated.
Objective: This study aimed to investigate the association between SGLT2 inhibitor therapy and the incidence of tinnitus in patients with type 2 diabetes.
Background: Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) are at increased risk of dementia due to hyperglycemia, insulin resistance, and vascular dysfunction. Sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) may have neuroprotective effects beyond glucose control, but evidence remains limited. This study aimed to assess whether SGLT2i use is associated with a lower incidence of dementia compared to dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors (DPP-4i) in older adults with T2DM.

Sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) have been shown to modulate erythropoiesis and iron metabolism, but their association remains unclear. This cohort study investigated whether SGLT2i use, compared to dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors (DPP-4i), is associated with a lower incidence of IDA in T2DM.

Methods: A retrospective cohort analysis was performed using the Disease Analyzer database (IQVIA) and included adults with ADHD which were compared to a propensity score matched non-ADHD cohort. The 10-year incidence of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) or transient ischemic attack (TIA) was analyzed using Kaplan-Meier curves and univariable conditional Cox regression models with hazard ratios (HRs) and 99% confidence intervals (CIs).
The transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) is an established treatment for complications of portal hypertension in patients with liver cirrhosis. While its use has increased and indications have broadened in recent years, recent comprehensive data on patient characteristics, trends, and in-hospital mortality in Germany are lacking. This study aimed to evaluate current clinical patterns and mortality outcomes associated with TIPS.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFABs are widely used in dental practice in the treatment of odontogenic infections and as systemic prophylaxis in high-risk patients. However, AB overuse contributes to antimicrobial resistance (AMR), which is a major global concern. This study examined dental AB prescribing trends in Germany in 2024, focusing on the share of overall AB prescriptions, patient demographics, and commonly used agents.

Thus, we aimed to investigate the association between DAO and MCI in a large nationally representative community-based sample from six LMICs (China, Ghana, India, Mexico, Russia, South Africa).
Methods: We analyzed cross-sectional data from the Study on Global Ageing and Adult Health.
Background: Pancreatic cancer is a highly lethal cancer with increasing incidence and poor prognosis due to late diagnosis. While several risk factors are known, evidence on a potential role of autoimmune diseases remains limited. Given the increasing prevalence of autoimmune diseases and their association with various malignancies, this study aims to investigate their potential association with pancreatic cancer.

Aims: Obesity is a well-established risk factor for atrial fibrillation (AF). However, the extent to which this association is driven by obesity-related comorbidities such as hypertension, diabetes and heart failure versus a potential direct effect of obesity itself remains unclear. Differentiating between these pathways is important for developing effective and targeted prevention strategies.

It is associated with decreased adherence and quality of life as well as increased risk for dialysis, hospitalization, and mortality. Large population-based analysis evaluating the effect of CKD on the incidence of depression are missing.

Materials And Methods: Cumulative prescriptions within the 12-month period before the index date were analyzed for a cohort of 7,482 children and adolescents using Kaplan-Meier curves, stratified according to age group. Associations between age, sex, co-diagnoses, and the likelihood to be treated were evaluated using multivariable Cox regression.
Background: There is currently no established standard of care for recurrent glioblastoma (GBM). Re-irradiation (re-RT) and Bevacizumab (BEV) are both used in salvage treatment, but their combined efficacy remains uncertain.
Objectives: To evaluate whether combining re-irradiation with BEV improves survival outcomes compared to BEV alone in patients with recurrent high-grade gliomas (rHGG).
Background: Events of cardiovascular disease (CVD) remain a critical concern in patients with Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D). Over 17 years, this study analyzed time changes in the 5-year incidence of myocardial infarction (MI), chronic coronary heart disease (CHD), transient ischemic attack (TIA), and ischemic stroke (IS).
Methods: This retrospective cohort study was conducted using the Disease Analyzer database, including patients aged ≥ 18 years with at least 12 months of no prior CVD with new-onset T2D in 2001-2006 (n = 10 162) and in 2013-2018 (n = 30 486), matched 1:3 by age and sex.

Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide and caused ~1.8 million deaths in the European Union from 2012 to 2020. This study aimed to analyze and quantify sex-based disparities, identifying both clinical and systemic contributors to in-hospital mortality differences between male and female patients.

This present study aimed to explore the CKD subpopulation regarding underdiagnosed CKD in individuals with a pathological estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and/or urine albumin-creatinine ratio (UACR) values in Germany. This analysis used data from the IQVIA Disease Analyzer database and included adult outpatients with at least two pathological consecutive eGFR and/or UACR values, documented at least 60 days apart between October 2018 and September 2023 in 758 general practices.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study used electronic medical records from the IQVIA™ Disease Analyzer database and included children and adolescents aged 6-17 years with an initial diagnosis of a sleep disorder and without sleep disorders treated by one of 258 office-based pediatricians between January 2010 and December 2023. The five-year cumulative incidence of depression and anxiety disorders in the cohorts with and without sleep disorders was studied with Kaplan-Meier curves.
Importance: Nontraumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) represents the third most common stroke type with unique etiologies, risk factors, diagnostics, and treatments. Nevertheless, epidemiological studies often cluster SAH with other stroke types leaving its distinct burden estimates obscure.
Objective: To estimate the worldwide burden of SAH.
