The global burden of gout is substantial and expected to increase. We investigated the relationship between the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, a biomarker of insulin resistance, and gout risk in the general population over time. This study was conducted using data from the National Health Screening Cohort Database of South Korea (2002-2019) among 300,107 participants who had no history of gout and underwent more than three repeated TyG index measurements.

To evaluate whether prokinetics use was associated with increased CV risk. We conducted a self-controlled case series (SCCS) study using the National Health Claims Database in South Korea.

For efficient click reaction, the stability of tetrazine in physiological conditions is one of the key issues in biological applications. However, the reactions between tetrazine and biomolecules have barely been studied.

Twenty patients (40 eyelids) aged 40 to 70 years with Barton's grade II to III periorbital hollowness were included. Lower blepharoplasty was performed using a subciliary approach, and the collagen-elastin matrix was implanted in two submuscular layers along the lid-cheek groove.

Background: Studies evaluating the association between hemorrhoids and heart failure (HF) have been limited. We aimed to evaluate the association between increased incidence of HF and the presence of hemorrhoids using a population-based longitudinal cohort.
Methods: We included 356,033 participants in this study, derived from health screening data collected between 2003 and 2007 from the South Korean health screening cohort database.
While varicose vein (VV) and dementia are frequent health problems, research investigating association between these conditions has been limited. We aimed to investigate the relationship between the presence of VV and the development of dementia, as well as to evaluate whether treatment for VV correlates with the occurrence of dementia in a longitudinal study involving the general population. Our study included 430,875 participants based on health screening results conducted from 2005 to 2010 in the South Korean health screening cohort database.

Isotropic shrinkage is critical for producing dimensionally accurate prostheses using zirconia. However, the anisotropic shrinkage of 3D-printed zirconia limits its utility in clinical applications. We aimed to evaluate the impact of specimen axis alterations on the shrinkage of digital light processing (DLP)-printed zirconia.

Traditional methods like marginal reflex distance (MRD) and palpebral fissure height (PFH) offer limited one-dimensional measurements. This study evaluates AI-based corneal exposure ratio (CER) analysis, a two-dimensional approach, compared to manual ImageJ methods for assessing ptosis surgery outcomes.

Here, we evaluate the consequence of elevated type I IFN exposure on implantation using a human implantation in an organ-on-a-chip device. We reveal that type I IFN reduces extravillous trophoblast (EVT) invasion capacity.

Chronic pain often goes unrecognized and untreated in individuals with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD), mainly due to limited capacity to verbalize pain. Addressing this issue requires the development of reliable objective biomarkers for pain. In the present pilot study, we explored the feasibility and acceptability of using a wearable electroencephalograph (EEG) and a screen-based eye tracker system to identify neural signatures of chronic pain in this population.

We optimized an endogenous extraction protocol for high SFN content, characterized by HPLC and LC-MS analyses. SFN remained stable in refrigerated broccoli sprout extract powder (BSEP) for over a month.

Methods: Our study used the Health Screening Cohort database of the National Health Insurance Service of South Korea (2002-2019). We included 310,021 participants who had no previous history of Parkinson's disease and for whom more than 3 triglyceride-glucose index measurements were available.
: The triglyceride/high-density lipoprotein (TG/HDL) ratio serves as a simple marker for insulin resistance. We investigated whether the TG/HDL ratio would be associated with the incidence risk of heart failure (HF). : The study utilized data from the National Health Insurance Service-Health Screening Cohort database of South Korea from 2002 to 2019.

An essential aspect of this study is to refine the sterilization processes, particularly focusing on electron beam (EB) sterilization, to maintain the structural and functional integrity of the Co-dECM hydrogels while ensuring sterility. The study reveals that EB sterilization outperformed traditional methods like ethylene oxide (EtO) gas and autoclaving, which tend to degrade the biochemical properties of hydrogels.

Introduction: The global burden of gout, a severe and painful arthralgia, is of note and is expected to increase in the future. We aimed to investigate the association between the triglyceride/high-density lipoprotein (TG/HDL) ratio, a simple and validated biomarker for insulin resistance, and the incidence of gout in a longitudinal setting in the general population.
Methods: Our study was conducted using the National Health Insurance Service-Health Screening Cohort database of Republic of Korea (2002-2019).
The association between insulin resistance and increased risk of Parkinson's disease (PD) has rarely been investigated. Our study aimed to investigate the association between the triglyceride/high-density lipoprotein (TG/HDL) ratio (which represents insulin resistance), and the incidence risk of PD in the general population. This study was conducted using data from the National Health Insurance Service-Health Screening Cohort Database of South Korea (2002-2019).

Background: The present study aimed to determine the developmental characteristics of high-risk infants with birth and perinatal risk factors according to gestational age using the Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development-Third Edition (Bayley-III) and to assess the clinical utility of the scale.
Methods: This study included 100 high-risk infants < 12 months' corrected age who presented to a hospital in Korea. Developmental levels of cognitive, language and motor scales were confirmed using Bayley-III and analysed by dividing the infants according to gestational age as follows: high-risk full-term, moderate-to-late preterm and very preterm.
Background: Tendinopathy is a chronic tendon disease. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), known for their anti-inflammatory properties, may lose effectiveness with extensive culturing. Previous research introduced "small umbilical cord-derived fast proliferating cells" (smumf cells), isolated using a novel minimal cube explant method.

Insomnia is one of the most common sleep disorders, affecting 10-15% of the global population. Because classical remedies used to treat insomnia have various side effects, new therapeutics for insomnia are attracting attention. In the present study, we found that N-Ethyl-N-(furan-2-ylmethyl) quinazoline-2,4-diamine (AR-001) has adenosine A receptor agonistic activity and exhibits hypnotic efficacy by decreasing sleep onset latency and increasing total sleep time in a pentobarbital-induced sleep model.
