: Ptosis surgery corrects drooping upper eyelids, improving function and esthetics. Traditional methods like marginal reflex distance (MRD) and palpebral fissure height (PFH) offer limited one-dimensional measurements. This study evaluates AI-based corneal exposure ratio (CER) analysis, a two-dimensional approach, compared to manual ImageJ methods for assessing ptosis surgery outcomes. : In this prospective study, 100 eyes from 50 patients were analyzed using both methods. AI-based CER measurements were compared to manual ImageJ measurements for reliability and accuracy. : AI-based CER measurements were comparable to manual ImageJ, with high reliability (ICC 0.992, 0.985). Preoperative CER was 55.34% (manual) and 55.79% (AI), increasing to 75.92% (manual) and 75.84% (AI) postoperatively. The AI tool showed minimal bias and high repeatability (ICC 1.000), offering faster automated measurements. : AI-based CER analysis matched manual methods in accuracy but provided significant efficiency advantages, making it suitable for clinical use. Limitations include a small homogeneous sample size and reliance on 2D imaging, which may not fully capture three-dimensional changes. Further studies are recommended to enhance generalizability and precision.

Introduction: Biomarkers are essential for monitoring the progression of frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Although dysregulated brain lipid metabolism, particularly sphingolipids enriched in the nervous system, is a key feature of neurodegeneration, plasma lipids remain underexplored as biomarkers compared to imaging and serum proteins.
Methods: We examined plasma lipidomes using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) from individuals carrying pathogenic variants linked to autosomal dominant FTD (GRN, C9orf72, MAPT) and non-carriers.

Background: Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors, such as Empagliflozin, are antidiabetic drugs that reduce glucose levels and have emerged as a promising therapy for patients with heart failure (HF), although the exact molecular mechanisms underlying their cardioprotective effects remain to be fully elucidated. The EmDia study, a randomized, double-blind trial conducted at the University Medical Center of Mainz, has confirmed the beneficial effects of Empagliflozin in HF patients after both one and twelve weeks of treatment. In this work, we aimed to assess whether changes in lipid profiles driven by Empagliflozin use in HF patients in the EmDia trial could assist in gaining a better understanding of its cardioprotective mechanisms.

Facing the massive energy consumption of over 200 TWh y of chlor-alkali industry, developing high-activity and durable non-precious CER (chlorine evolution reaction) catalysts is urgently needed to address the high overpotentials and suppress the dissolution high-valance metal species. Herein, a carbon quantum dots functionalized trimetallic Fe/Co/Ni spinel oxide nanotube architecture (FCNO@CQDs) is constructed, featuring t-to-π* π-backbonding for dramatically enhanced CER activity and stability. The reverse electron flow from Co d-obritals to the vacant CQDs' π* orbitals can upshift the d-band center for enhanced intermediate adsorption, while stabilizing high-valent Co centers via increased bond order.

Vascular diseases are powerful predictors of cardiovascular mortality, but they are typically under-recognized and undertreated. There is no effective treatment for either abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) or peripheral artery disease (PAD). Lipids are key molecules in cardiovascular diseases and good candidates for diagnosis, monitoring, and risk prediction; nonetheless, there is very limited information on the lipidomic profile of patients with AAA and PAD.

Objective: Skin lipids, such as ceramides (CERs), play an important role in maintaining the skin barrier. Although the benefits of CERs are well known, few studies have investigated the effects of other skin lipid components on the skin barrier. Therefore, this study compared the efficacy of several skin lipid components and their structural derivatives, including CERs, on the skin barrier.
