Objectives: SKYVaricella, a live attenuated varicella vaccine product, is known to increase the risk of herpes zoster (HZ) in vaccinated children. We investigated the impact of introducing the vaccine on HZ incidence in Korea since 2018.
Methods: This ecological study used medical records from the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service in Korea.
Catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (CPVT) is a rare but life-threatening inherited arrhythmia in children, often associated with sudden cardiac death (SCD). Risk stratification remains challenging. This study aimed to assess clinical characteristics, genetic profiles, and risk factors for adverse outcomes in Korean pediatric CPVT patients.

Introduction: Following severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection, symptoms can persist for more than 12 weeks in over 10% of patients in a condition known as long coronavirus disease (COVID). Gut microbiota dysbiosis is correlated with long COVID, but the specific relationship between long COVID and the gut microbiome remains unclear. Here, we aimed to investigate connections between the gut microbiota and long COVID severity.

This review comprehensively analyzes the physiological, biochemical, and molecular mechanisms that vegetable crops employ to cope with drought stress. In particular, it highlights the significance of key hormonal regulation pathways, such as abscisic acid (ABA), jasmonic acid (JA), and ethylene (ET), which play crucial roles in mediating stress responses.

Protein-losing enteropathy (PLE) is a serious complication after the Fontan operation with limited treatment options. This phase 2, multi-center, open-label trial evaluated the efficacy and safety of Camostat Mesylate (CM), a serine protease inhibitor, as adjunctive therapy for PLE. Nineteen patients aged 4 years and older with PLE after the Fontan operation were enrolled.

Although significant efforts have been made to reduce the incidence of foodborne illnesses, factors contributing to these outbreaks have not been adequately elucidated. The purpose of this study was to assess the risk factors for foodborne illnesses in restaurants in Seoul using the recommendations of the U.

Recently, , the major CPVT-causative gene, was associated with neuropsychiatric manifestations. We aimed to analyze the clinical presentations, neuropsychiatric manifestations, and treatment outcomes of children with CPVT.

Background: Extracardiac conduit Fontan procedure (ECFP) employing a Gore-Tex conduit has been widely used for patients with single ventricle physiology; however, the long-term status of the conduit is unknown. We investigated the changes in a Gore-Tex conduit after ECFP and the factors associated with its narrowing.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of 86 patients who underwent ECFP between January 1995 and December 2008 and had cardiac computed tomography (CT) during the follow-up period.
The pertussis epidemic in Korea is ongoing, with a record-high incidence rate. Although pertussis incidence is high worldwide in 2024, the scale of the increase observed in Korea is unprecedented and incomparable to that in other countries. The high proportion of cases among children aged 5 to 14 years is the distinctive characteristics of the 2024 pertussis epidemic in Korea.

Purpose: Data regarding the association between metabolically healthy obesity (MHO) and preclinical atherosclerosis in childhood are lacking. Carotid intima-media thickness (cIMT) is a noninvasive method used to assess cardiovascular risk. This study examined the relationships among cIMT, metabolic phenotypes, and cardiometabolic risk factors (CMRFs) in overweight and obese adolescents.

With the increasing demand for ammonia applications, there is a significant focus on improving NH detection performance at room temperature. In this study, we introduce a groundbreaking NH gas sensor based on Cu(I)-based coordination polymers, featuring semiconducting, single stranded 1D-helical nanowires constructed from Cu-Cl and -methylthiourea (MTCP). The MTCP demonstrates an exceptional response to NH gas (>900% at 100 ppm) and superior selectivity at room temperature compared to current materials.

Introduction: The long-term effects of fenestration in patients with Fontan circulation remain unclear. We aim to evaluate the fenestration impact on early and late outcomes in patients with extracardiac Fontan (ECF) using a propensity score matching analysis.
Methods: We performed an extensive retrospective multicenter clinical data review of the Korean Fontan registry and included 1,233 patients with surgical ECF (779 fenestrated, 454 non-fenestrated).

Unlabelled: Excessive hepatic lipid accumulation is closely linked to inflammation, insulin resistance, and metabolic syndromes. We hypothesized that a combined extract containing (SCE) could alleviate hepatic lipid accumulation. Male Sprague-Dawley rats fed a high-sucrose diet (HSD) were randomly assigned to three groups (n = 6): normal diet (ND), HSD (60% kcal from sucrose), and HSD + SCE (HSD with 2.

However, this finding has not been observed in the United States and Europe. The present study aimed to determine whether the prolonged influenza epidemic in Korea from 2022 to 2023 was caused by using a different influenza epidemic threshold compared to the thresholds used in the United States and Europe.

A retinal prosthesis is a device that can provide artificial vision to people who have lost their sight from certain retinal disorder. Because the device needs to be inserted into the body, high flexibility and reliability is required. Recently, devices using thermoplastic polymers such as LCP and COC as substrates have been studied.

In this work, a fabrication process for implantable electrodes using a Cyclic Olefin Copolymer (COC) substrate and a SU-8 passivation layer was presented. COC and SU-8 were shown to be suitable for implantable neural electrodes due to their biocompatibility, chemical resistance, and thermal stability. The electrodes were successfully patterned on the COC film, and the SU-8 passivation layer was coated while maintaining site-opened via photolithography.
