: Fat-free mass (FFM) loss after metabolic and bariatric surgery (MBS) is associated with adverse long-term outcomes, including osteoporosis. Identifying biomarkers that predict excessive FFM loss can improve perioperative patient management and postoperative risk stratification. This study investigated whether preoperative amino acid metabolite (AAM) levels could predict excessive FFM loss after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG).

Normothermic intraperitoneal and systemic treatment (NIPS) has become a promising therapeutic approach. This consensus aims to provide practical recommendations for NIPS treatment for gastric cancer with peritoneal metastasis (GCPM).

Background: Patients with peritoneal metastasis from gastric cancer show poor prognosis with standard systemic chemotherapy. This prospective multicenter phase II clinical trial was performed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of intraperitoneal paclitaxel combined with systemic S-1 plus oxaliplatin for patients with advanced or recurrent gastric cancer with peritoneal metastasis.
Patient And Method: Patients with advanced or recurrent gastric cancer with histologically or radiologically confirmed peritoneal metastases were eligible for the study.
Background: This study was conducted to assess the efficacy and safety of Red Ginseng Extract Powder (RGEP) (KGC05pg; Korea Ginseng Corporation, Daejeon, Korea) in achieving glycemic control in prediabetic Korean adults.
Methods: The patients of the RGEP group (n = 49) and those of the placebo group (n = 49) were orally given 2 tablets of RGEP and its matching placebo, respectively, at a dose of 500 mg/day twice daily in the morning and the evening within 30 min after meal during a 12-week treatment period. The patients were assessed for glycemic control parameters, such as fasting blood glucose levels, 30-, 60-, 90-, and 120-min blood glucose levels on an oral glucose tolerance test, Hb1Ac levels and glucose area under the curve, insulin resistance parameters, such as homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance, c-peptide and insulinogenic index, and hormone parameters, such as glucagon, adiponectin and glucagon-like peptide-1.
Background: Lymph node metastasis, particularly to extraperigastric lymph nodes, is an important issue in determining the suitability of minimally invasive treatment for early gastric cancer. However, there is a paucity of research focused on identifying risk factors for extraperigastric lymph node metastasis, which is crucial for optimizing treatment selection.
Methods: Patients who underwent radical gastrectomy for early gastric cancer between 2007 and 2023 at Korea University Guro Hospital and Kyung Hee University Hospital at Gandong in Seoul, Korea, were reviewed retrospectively.
Here, we investigated whether a mixture of and (1:3, KGC01CE) could suppress muscle atrophy in HO-induced C2C12 cells and dexamethasone-injected mice. Our results revealed that KGC01CE effectively safeguarded against HO-induced muscle atrophy in C2C12 cells compared with the same mixture at other ratios. We demonstrated that dexamethasone elicited oxidative stress in muscle tissue and decreased the grip strength and cross-sectional areas of muscle fibers; however, oral administration of KGC01CE (1:3) suppressed these dexamethasone-induced changes.

Sarcopenia is a condition characterized by a progressive loss of muscle mass and function which are influenced by certain factors such as aging, nutritional deficiencies, and chronic diseases. Despite numerous efforts to prevent or treat sarcopenia, effective therapeutic options for this disease remain limited. This study aims to evaluate the effects of KGC01CE treatment, a mixture of (Ce) and (Eu), which are well-known traditional herbal medicines in Asia, on age-related muscle loss and functional decline in aged rats.

Materials And Methods: Patients with morbid obesity from 4 hospitals were retrospectively analyzed between Jan 2019 and 2022. Preoperative demographics, postoperative data, and 1-year follow-up weight loss outcomes were compared between 2 groups who underwent laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) and laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (LRYGB).

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of red ginseng oil (RXGIN) in men with lower urinary tract symptoms.
Materials And Methods: Men aged between 40 and 75 years with a total International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) of 8 to 19 points were recruited from April 2020 to December 2020. Subjects were randomly assigned to either the RXGIN group or the control group in a 1:1 ratio and received either RXGIN or placebo daily for 12 weeks.
Background: Optimal length of biliopancreatic (BP) and Roux limb in Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) for improved glycemic control are not known.
Purpose: To investigate how the lengths of the BP and Roux limbs in RYGB differentially affect postoperative glycemic outcomes in patients with type 2 diabetes.
Data Sources: We conducted a systematic literature search using the PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library databases.
Background: Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a disease characterized by abnormal proliferation of the prostate, which occurs frequently in middle-aged men. In this study, we report the effect of red ginseng oil (KGC11) on BPH.
Methods: The BPH-induced Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into seven groups: control, BPH, KGC11 25, 50, 100, 200, and finasteride groups.
Background: Peritoneal carcinomatosis (PC) is the most common form of metastasis in gastric cancer (GC) and is related with a poor prognosis. Several treatment modalities including systemic chemotherapy and intraperitoneal chemotherapy have been studied and adopted in treatment of GC patients with PC. Nevertheless, few studies have reported the comparison of the oncologic outcomes between minimally invasive surgery (MIS) with intraperitoneal (IP) chemotherapy and conventional chemotherapy for GC with PC.

Purpose: Tegafur/gimeracil/oteracil (S-1) and capecitabine plus oxaliplatin (CAPOX) are standard adjuvant chemotherapies (ACs) administered after gastrectomy to patients with stage II or III gastric cancer. However, the efficacy of AC in elderly patients remains unclear. The objective of this retrospective multicenter cohort study was to compare the efficacies of S-1 and CAPOX AC in patients aged ≥70 years.

Deep neuromuscular block (NMB) reportedly improves laparoscopic surgical conditions, but its oncological benefits are unclear. We aimed to evaluate whether deep NMB improves the oncologic quality of laparoscopic cancer surgery in obese patients.

This dose-escalation study aimed to determine the maximum tolerated dose (MTD) and recommended dose (RD) of IP PTX administered weekly to patients.
Materials And Methods: Eight cycles of IP PTX plus SOX regimen were administered to the patients.
Although Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) and sleeve gastrectomy (SG) are the most prevalent bariatric surgical procedures, high-level evidence is scarce regarding the assessment of postoperative nutritional risk in RYGB versus SG. Therefore, we performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to compare the risk of anemia and related micronutrient deficiencies after RYGB and SG. We analyzed 10 randomized controlled trials that compared RYGB and SG with reported incidence of postoperative anemia and/or anemia-related micronutrient deficiencies (iron, vitamin B , or folate).

This paper presents closed-form optimal cooperative guidance laws for two UAVs under information constraints that achieve the required relative approach angle. Two UAVs cooperate to optimize a common cost function under a coupled constraint on terminal velocity vectors and the information constraint which defines the sensor information availability. To handle the information constraint, a general two-player partially nested decentralized optimal control problem is considered in the continuous finite-horizon time domain.
