Sarcopenia is a condition characterized by a progressive loss of muscle mass and function which are influenced by certain factors such as aging, nutritional deficiencies, and chronic diseases. Despite numerous efforts to prevent or treat sarcopenia, effective therapeutic options for this disease remain limited. This study aims to evaluate the effects of KGC01CE treatment, a mixture of (Ce) and (Eu), which are well-known traditional herbal medicines in Asia, on age-related muscle loss and functional decline in aged rats. KGC01CE has been found to be more effective than the individual extracts in inhibiting dexamethasone (DEX)-induced muscle atrophy and improving muscle mass and grip strength in C2C12 cells and aged rats. Moreover, animal studies were conducted to determine the minimum effective dose, and a 12-week oral administration of KGC01CE treatment at doses of 50, 100, and 200 mg/kg to 15-month-old aged rats resulted in a dose-dependent increase in lean mass, muscle mass, grip strength, and muscle cross-sectional area (CSA), which had decreased due to aging. Furthermore, it was shown that KGC01CE activated the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)/Akt pathway and inhibited the expression of muscle-degrading proteins MuRF, Atrogin-1, and myostatin. These results suggest that KGC01CE treatment may effectively prevent muscle loss and functional decline, providing a novel therapeutic strategy for sarcopenia.

To compare the efficacy of using bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell (BM-MSC) exosomes and injectable platelet rich fibrin (i-PRF) on the submandibular salivary glands (SMGs) of aged albino rats in restoring salivary gland structure and function. A total of 40 healthy male albino rats were used, two for obtaining the BM-MSCs, 10 for i-PRF preparation and seven adult rats (6-8 months old) represented the control group (Group 1). The remaining 21 rats were aged (18-20 months old) and divided into three groups of seven rats each; (Group 2): received no treatment, (Group 3): each rat received a single intraglandular injection of BM-MSC exosomes (50 μg/kg/dose suspended in 0.

Regulating the differentiation of implanted stem cells into neurons is crucial for stem cell therapy of traumatic brain injury (TBI). However, due to the migratory nature of implanted stem cells, precise and targeted regulation of their fate remains challenging. Here, neural stem cells (NSCs) are bio-orthogonally engineered with hyaluronic acid methacryloyl (HAMA) microsatellites capable of sustained release of differentiation modulators for targeted regulation of their neuronal differentiation and advanced TBI repair.

Postmenopausal osteoporosis (PMOP) is a common bone metabolic disorder in middle-aged and elderly women, yet its pathogenesis remains unclear. This study investigates the effect of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) deficiency on bone homeostasis to provide insight into the mechanisms underlying PMOP. Sixteen female SD rats were randomly assigned to Sham and ovariectomized (OVX) groups.

Matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP9) as a Zn2+-dependent matrix enzyme, not only maintains the integrity of the blood-brain barrier and synaptic plasticity, but also plays a key regulatory factor in peripheral and central nervous inflammation. This study aimed to investigate the effects of MMP9-mediated microglial polarization on surgery-induced neuroinflammation in aged rats and to provide novel targets for prevention and treatment of PND.

Background: Phthalates are compounds used as plasticizers to increase the flexibility of plastics and are considered endocrine disruptors. Some studies suggest that the origin of prostate cancer (PCa) may be associated with disturbances during embryo-fetal development. Previous data showed that perinatal exposure to the same phthalate mixture (PM) used here increased the incidence of adenocarcinomas in the prostates of aged rats.
