Copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn) are common trace metal contaminants in marine environments that, despite their importance for the health of marine organisms, can be toxic. Recently, the stable isotopes of these elements have emerged as powerful tracers for studying their cycles. Thus, this review aims to connect urban and marine interfaces under a "land-sea continuum" framework to understand the complex sources, pathways, and transformations of Cu and Zn in urbanized coastal environments, a perspective currently lacking in the literature.

Our study presents a novel approach for tracing anthropogenic zinc (Zn) bioaccumulation in mangrove crabs using Zn stable isotope compositions (δZn). We analyzed δZn and elemental composition in crab tissues from Brazilian mangroves within a coastal lagoon historically impacted by electroplating waste. Crabs from the mangrove area near the old electroplating plant exhibited the highest Zn concentrations in both muscle and hepatopancreas, likely reflecting the high Zn bioavailability in these sediments.

Background: Dyslipidaemia is among the major causes of severe diseases and, despite being well-established, the hypocholesterolaemic therapies still face significant concerns about potential side effects (such as myopathy, myalgia, liver injury digestive problems, or mental fuzziness in some people taking statins), interaction with other drugs or specific foods. Accordingly, this review describes the latest developments in the most effective therapies to control and regulate dyslipidaemia.

Scope And Approach: Herein, the metabolic dynamics of cholesterol and their integration with the current therapies: statins, bile acid sequestrants, fibrates, niacin, proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) inhibitors, reconstituted high-density lipoprotein (rHDL), or anti-inflammatory and immune-modulating therapies), were compared focusing their effectiveness, patients' adhesion and typical side-effects.

Macroalgae are known as abundant sources of phytochemicals, which offer a plethora of beneficial biological properties. Besides being the most notable classes of compounds found in macroalgae, phlorotannins, bromophenols, and terpenoids comprise some of the most relevant for their biological properties. Phlorotannins, mainly prevalent in brown algae and structurally characterized as complex polyphenolic compounds derived from phloroglucinol units, possess robust antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antitumor, and cytotoxic activities, modulated by factors such as the degree of polymerization and environmental conditions.

The nutritional status of a honey bee colony is recognized as a key factor in ensuring a healthy hive. A deficient flow of nectar and pollen in the honey bee colony immediately affects its development, making room for pathogen proliferation and, consequently, for a reduction in the activities and strength of the colony. It is, therefore, urgent for the beekeepers to use more food supplements and/or substitutes in apiary management, allowing them to address colony nutritional imbalances according to the beekeeper's desired results.

Human-animal relations have been a fruitful research topic worldwide. The importance of deer in hunter-gatherer societies is undeniable, with cervids being commonly found in archaeological and past artistic records, with a notable amount of information recovered in the Iberian Peninsula. This relevance continues during Late Prehistory, but the attempt to discuss cervids under broader perspectives and based on different types of data is not as common.

Zinc (Zn) and copper (Cu) stable isotopic compositions have been analyzed in various species of bivalve mollusks worldwide, but no comprehensive systematic interspecies comparison exists. Thus, we assessed isotope differences between species harvested in emblematic French coastal ecosystems to unveil biologically driven Cu and Zn isotope fractionation patterns. Inter-species isotopic variability of Cu is larger than Zn, with organisms that regulate internal concentrations displaying preferential bioaccumulation of heavy isotopes.

Non-metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (nmCRPC) represents a challenging disease state in prostate cancer care. nmCRPC patients with a high risk of progression to metastatic disease who are identified by a prostate-specific antigen doubling time (PSADT) ≤10 months are eligible for treatment with the novel androgen receptor inhibitors (ARIs), shown to delay disease progression and extend survival. However, nmCRPC is often unexploited in clinical practice due to a lack of standardization in the methodology and in the tools used for its identification.

In recent decades, plants have strengthened their relevance as sources of molecules potentially beneficial for health. This underpinning effect also arises from the extensive research that has been conducted on plants that are typically undervalued, besides being scarcely used. This is the case with Camellia japonica in Galicia (NW Spain), where, despite its abundance, it is exclusively used for ornamental purposes and has been studied only for its proximate composition.
