The accurate and timely diagnosis of acute aortic syndrome (AAS) in patients presenting with acute chest pain remains a clinical challenge. Aortic computed tomography (CT) angiography is the imaging protocol of choice in patients with suspected AAS. However, due to economic and workflow constraints in China, the majority of suspected patients initially undergo noncontrast CT as the initial imaging testing, and CT angiography is reserved for those at higher risk.

Caloric restriction mimetics (CRMs) replicate the positive effects of caloric restriction (CR) and have demonstrated therapeutic benefits in neuroinflammatory and cardiovascular diseases. However, it remains uncertain whether CRMs enhance functional recovery following ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury, as well as the specific mechanisms involved in this process. This study examines the therapeutic potential of the CRM 3,4-dimethoxychalcone (3,4-DC) in limb I/R injury.

As a common and severe cerebrovascular disease, ischemic stroke casts a significant shadow over global health. Unfortunately, the mechanisms regulating neuronal death in the affected areas remain largely unclear. Here, we found that deletion of the deubiquitinating enzyme Otubain-2 (OTUB2) significantly alleviated ischemia-induced cerebral infarction and neurological deficits, accompanied by a reduction in neuronal loss, glial activation, and neuroinflammation.

Obesity and type 2 diabetes have reached pandemic proportion. ALDH2 (acetaldehyde dehydrogenase 2, mitochondrial) is the key metabolizing enzyme of acetaldehyde and other toxic aldehydes, such as 4-hydroxynonenal. A missense Glu504Lys mutation of the ALDH2 gene is prevalent in 560 million East Asians, resulting in reduced ALDH2 enzymatic activity.

Background: Tearing of inner layer of aorta causes aortic dissection (AD), a severe disease with high morbidity and mortality. The pathological development of AD partially results from apoptotic death of aortic endothelial cells (AECs), the trigger and the molecular regulation of which remain largely unknown. Cyclin-dependent kinase 5 (CDK5) was initially detected in the brain as a proline-directed serine/threonine protein kinase regulating neuronal cell cycle re-entry and arrest.
