The association between inflammation and cardiovascular disease (CVD) is increasingly garnering attention. However, the association between neutrophil percentage to albumin ratio (NPAR) and CVD in the metabolic syndrome population remains unclear. Therefore, we employed a large-scale epidemiological database to investigate this association.

Background: Cervical lymphaticovenous bypass has recently emerged as an innovative surgical approach to enhance brain lymphatic clearance for the treatment of Alzheimer disease (AD). Although early clinical findings are promising, the absence of a reproducible preclinical model has hindered mechanistic investigations and translational advancements.

Objective: This study aimed to establish the first rat model for cervical LVA, addressing technical challenges and providing a standardized platform for preclinical research on lymphatic clearance and its role in neurodegeneration.

Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neurotoxicity (CIPN) is a severe dose-limiting adverse event of chemotherapy. Presently, the mechanism underlying the induction of CIPN remains unclear, and no effective treatment is available. In this study, through metabolomics analyses, we found that nab-paclitaxel therapy markedly increased serum serotonin [5-hydroxtryptamine (5-HT)] levels in both cancer patients and mice compared to the respective controls.

The prevention of osteoarthritis through controlling body measurements has received increasing attention in recent years, but the relationship between lean body mass (LBM) and osteoarthritis remains unclear. Hence, we explored this association through the data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2007-2018). The present study enrolled 31,172 participants.

Background: The triglyceride glucose (TyG) index serves as a dependable surrogate biomarker for evaluating insulin resistance. However, the role of the TyG index in patients with diabetes mellitus who also suffer from acute renal failure warrants further investigation. This study sought to investigate the association between the TyG index and the incidence of acute renal failure in individuals with diabetes.

Background: Regarding when to treat gastric cancer and ovarian metastasis (GCOM) and whether to have metastatic resection surgery, there is presently debate on a global scale. The purpose of this research is to examine, in real-world patients with GCOM, the survival rates and efficacy of metastatic non-metastasized resection.

Aim: To investigate the survival time and efficacy of metastatic surgery and neoadjuvant therapy in patients with GCOM.

Background: There are currently no standard therapy regimens for the third-line treatment of metastatic pancreatic cancer (mPC) patients. The aim of the present study was to compare the efficacy and safety of different third-line therapy regimens for mPC in the real-world.

Methods: This study retrospectively analyzed mPC patients admitted to Zhejiang Provincial People's Hospital between June 2013 and January 2023.

Background: Currently, there is a lack of affordable and accessible indicators that can accurately predict immune-related adverse events (irAEs) resulting from the use of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). In order to address this knowledge gap, our study explore the potential predictive value of two ratios, namely the neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), for irAEs in cancer patients.

Methods: A systematic search was performed in PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane library.

Background: Recently, many studies have shown that the progress of conversion therapy can provide surgical opportunities for patients with advanced gastric cancer (GC) and bring survival benefits. However, the results of the current study show that the regimen used in conversion therapy is still controversial. Apatinib, as the standard third-line treatment for GC, has an inconclusive status in conversion therapy.

Article Synopsis
  • The study compares the efficacy and safety of fruquintinib and regorafenib for treating metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) after standard chemotherapy, using data from 105 patients treated at a hospital in China between 2018 and 2021.
  • Results show that fruquintinib had a higher objective remission rate (6.1% vs 2.0%) and disease control rate (65.3% vs 54.2%) than regorafenib, but both drugs had similar overall survival and progression-free survival rates.
  • When combined with anti-PD-1 therapy, fruquintinib demonstrated significantly better outcomes in both progression-free

Mechanical forces in the tumor microenvironment (TME) are associated with tumor growth, proliferation, and drug resistance. Strong mechanical forces in tumors alter the metabolism and behavior of cancer cells, thus promoting tumor progression and metastasis. Mechanical signals are transformed into biochemical signals, which activate tumorigenic signaling pathways through mechanical transduction.

Background: Various tumors and tumor-like disorders, originating from the neural sheath, as well as other types, may affect the brachial plexus region. Due to the infrequent presentation, brachial plexus palsy caused by spontaneous hematoma in patients with hemophilia might miss the treatment by early surgical decompression and progress to permanent nerve damage.

Case Summary: The case reported here was a 30-year-old man with hemophilia, as well as both sensory and motor dysfunction of the left upper extremity.

Article Synopsis
  • Stewart-Treves syndrome (STS) is a rare but aggressive lymphatic sarcoma that can develop in patients with chronic lymphedema, often occurring years after breast cancer treatment, with a low survival rate.
  • A case study of a 74-year-old woman revealed STS manifested 13 years post-breast cancer surgery, leading to rapid progression and requiring significant surgical intervention.
  • Post-surgery chemotherapy improved her condition, and she has lived over 13 months after treatment, enjoying a better quality of life and normal activities with some assistance.

Development of alternative bone tissue graft materials based on tissue engineering technology has gradually become a research focus. Engineered bone composed of biodegradable, biosafe and bioactive materials is attractive, but also challenging. An adipose-derived stem cell/poly(L-glutamic acid)/chitosan composite scaffold was further developed for construction of biodegradable and bone-promoting tissue-engineered bone.

Background: To discuss the preparation of a simple and practical animal model for lymphatic anastomosis technology training. At present, there is no widely used animal model for training lymphatic anastomosis.

Methods: The neck of chicken is long enough, and there are abundant lymphatic lymph nodes.
