This study investigated the anti-inflammatory and skin barrier-restoring effects of a 50% ethanol extract of Rosa rugosa Thunb. (RT50) using both in vitro and in vivo models, including HaCaT keratinocytes and a 1-Chloro-2,4-dinitrobenzene (DNCB)-induced ear edema mouse model. The aim was to evaluate the potential efficacy of RT50 in treating hypersensitivity-related skin conditions, such as atopic and contact dermatitis, and to explore natural therapeutic alternatives with fewer side effects for managing inflammatory skin diseases.

6'-Sialyllactose (6'-SL) sodium salt is the sodium salt of a naturally occurring trisaccharide found in dairy products and human milk. 6'-SL sodium salt formulations produced by different methods have been the subject of other safety studies and are approved for use in food in the United States and other countries. Because the manufacturing process can influence the toxicological profile of a substance, studies were undertaken to assess the safety of 6'-SL sodium salt produced by a novel manufacturing process.

Background: Coronary artery spasm (CAS) has become a focus of recent prognostic studies. However, research evaluating prognosis based on the initial dose of acetylcholine (ACH) at which patients first respond is lacking. This study aims to investigate long-term clinical outcomes according to the first responsive dose of ACH in patients with CAS.

Background: Sarcopenia is a key modifiable risk factor for falls in older adults with a history of falls. However, its diagnosis is a challenge owing to limited resources in primary care or community settings. In 2019, the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia introduced the concept of 'possible sarcopenia' as an easily accessible diagnostic criterion for at-risk individuals.

The six-minute walk test (6MWT) is a convenient method for evaluating functional capacity in daily living. We evaluated the prognostic value of the 6MWT in patients with cardiovascular disease to predict the incidence of MACE. Patients with prevalent cardiovascular diseases were enrolled in the cardiac rehabilitation registry.

Environmental DNA (eDNA) serves as a non-invasive tool for monitoring the presence of specific organisms in challenging or hard-to-access areas. We attempted non-invasive monitoring of Korean cetacean species by extracting eDNA from the western and southern seas of the Republic of Korea, as well as around Jeju Island. In the present study, we focused on two representative cetaceans of the Korean Sea: the narrow-ridged finless porpoise (Neophocaena asiaeorientalis sunameri) and oceanic dolphins (Family Delphinidae).

This study aims to determine the problems involved in using a mathematical calculation to analyze the pathophysiology of nocturia using a frequency volume chart (FVC). In this retrospective study, we reviewed 253 patients who completed the FVC during ≥ 3 days for nocturia from January 2017 to February 2019. The etiology of nocturia was defined as a combination of 4 pathophysiologies, including nocturnal polyuria (NP), decreased bladder capacity (dBC), decreased nocturnal bladder capacity, and global polyuria.

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of declining surgical residency program enrollment on patient care and outcomes in colorectal cancer surgeries.

Methods: This retrospective observational study included 676 patients (410 males; median age: 69 years) who underwent colorectal cancer surgery at Pusan National University Hospital between January 2018 and June 2024. Patients were divided into Group A (before December 31, 2023; with residents) and Group B (after January 1, 2024; without residents).

Background: Sarcopenia is the age-related involuntary loss of skeletal muscle mass and strength. Many factors, such as ageing and behaviour, may affect the risk of sarcopenia. However, no study had confirmed the association between cumulative exposure to smoking and the risk of developing sarcopenia.

Importance: Fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLIm) is a molecular imaging technique used to visualize the biochemical composition of atherosclerosis. Novel dual-modal imaging using optical coherence tomography (OCT)-FLIm has the potential to provide both microstructural and biocompositional information on coronary plaques; however, it needs validation for clinical application.

Objective: To investigate the clinical feasibility and safety of OCT-FLIm for characterizing plaque compositions in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) undergoing revascularization therapy.

Raising a child with developmental disabilities (DDs) involves both rewards and challenges, with family management styles influencing the quality of life (QoL) of both children and families, particularly during crises. This study identified family management styles and their relationships with the QoL of children and adolescents and family functioning during the COVID-19 pandemic. Conducted between September 2020 and October 2021, the study included 200 Korean parents of individuals with DDs under the age of 21.

In this study, we investigated the effects of Gallium (Ga) doping on the electrical properties of solution-processed Antimony-Tin Oxide (ATO) thin-film transistors (TFTs). Notably, ATO films initially exhibited no switching characteristics due to their high conductivity. However, doping Ga into ATO successfully induced switching behavior.

Sarcopenia and obesity are age-related conditions associated with dietary habits. However, the relationship between eating speed and sarcopenia, particularly in older adults >65 years of age remains unclear. To investigate the effect of eating speed on the occurrence of sarcopenia, obesity, and sarcopenic obesity, we examined eating speed, socioeconomic factors, and disease history of 6202 patients at baseline and their changes over a 16-year follow-up period.

BACKGROUND Pediatric anesthesia emergence delirium (PAED), with symptoms including agitation, hyperactivity, and confusion, is common in children undergoing general anesthesia. This study aimed to compare the effect of an endotracheal tube (ETT) and a laryngeal mask airway (LMA) on emergence delirium (ED) in 73 children undergoing strabismus surgery. MATERIAL AND METHODS Seventy-three children aged 3 to 9 years were enrolled and randomly assigned to 2 groups: 36 patients in the LMA group (group L) and 37 patients in the ETT group (group E).

Two new abietane-type diterpenoids, 6β-(3-furoyloxy)ferruginol (1) and 6-chloro-6,7-dehydroferruginol (2), were isolated from the roots of Euonymus hamiltonianus along with five known diterpenoids (3-7). Their structures were characterized using various spectroscopic analysis including HRMS, 1D and 2D NMR, and ECD analysis. All isolated compounds (1-7) were evaluated for their cytotoxic activity against human colon cancer cell line, HCT116, and it was found to exhibit moderate cytotoxic activity with IC values ranging from 4.

Identifying the species of king crab in processed products is crucial to prevent food fraud and harm to consumers. A rapid real-time PCR method was developed to identify three crab species (, , and ) in crab products within 30 min. The method involved direct DNA extraction and utilized species-specific primer sets targeting mitochondrial cytochrome C oxidase subunit I (COI) and internal transcribed spacer (ITS1) for the three crab species.

All cellular transcripts initially have a tri-phosphate (PPP) group at the 5'-end, recognized as a pathogen-associated molecular pattern (PAMP) by a cell's innate immune system. The removal of 5'-PPP occurs to varying extents, causing immune imbalance. However, how cells manage this situation has not yet been documented.

Background: The incidence of delirium in patients with burns receiving treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) is high, reaching up to 77%, and has been associated with increased mortality rates. Therefore, early identification of patients at high risk of delirium onset is essential for improving treatment strategies.

Objective: This study aimed to create a machine learning model for predicting delirium in patients with burns during their ICU stay using patient data from the first day of ICU admission and identify predictive factors for ICU delirium in patients with burns.
