Intracellular infection of Cutibacterium acnes in macrophages of extensive peri-implantitis lesions: A clinical case series.

Cutibacterium acnes is a facultative anaerobic, gram-positive rod, and a commensal bacterium of the body surface including oral cavity. A causal relationship between C. acnes and chronic granulomatous diseases, such as sarcoidosis and orthopedic implant-associated infections, has been previously reported.

Central odontogenic fibroma: report of 29 cases in a Korean population with tooth management.

This study presents the behavioural findings of central odontogenic fibroma (COF) in a specific ethnic group, analysing treatment methods and demonstrating how involved teeth should be managed in detail. Clinical, radiographic, and histological findings were gathered for 29 patients who visited our clinic, with all patients' data carefully examined by radiologists and reviewed microscopically. The cohort comprised 29 patients, with 16 females and 13 males, having a mean (SD) age of 33.

Case report: Ghost cell odontogenic carcinoma in a dog: diagnostics and surgical outcome.

A 6 year-old spayed female Poodle presented with a mandibular mass. Radiographic examination revealed osteolysis from the right mandibular canine to the fourth premolar, along with horizontal bone loss and dorsal displacement of the right mandibular first and second premolars. Skull cone beam computed tomography revealed osteolysis at the level of the right mandibular canine and fourth premolar.

Histone acetylation involves the transfer of two-carbon units to the nucleus that are embedded in low-concentration metabolites. We found that lactate, a high-concentration metabolic byproduct, can be a major carbon source for histone acetylation through oxidation-dependent metabolism. Both in cells and in purified nuclei, C-lactate carbons are incorporated into histone H4 (maximum incorporation: ~60%).

Buccal nerve schwannoma mimicking a salivary gland tumor: a rare case report.

Schwannomas are benign tumors originating from myelinating cells constituting nerve sheaths but rarely contain cellular elements of the nerve. The authors encountered a 47-year-old female patient with a schwannoma on the anterior mandibular ramus arising from the buccal nerve, measuring 3 cm×4 cm. Surgical resection was performed with preservation of the buccal nerve via microsurgical dissection.

Background: Approximately 30% of diabetic patients develop diabetic nephropathy, a representative microvascular complication. Although the etiological mechanism has not yet been fully elucidated, renal tubular damage by hyperglycemia-induced expression of transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) is known to be involved. Recently, a new type of cell death by iron metabolism called ferroptosis was reported to be involved in kidney damage in animal models of diabetic nephropathy, which could be induced by TGF-β.

Acceleration of bone formation by octacalcium phosphate composite in a rat tibia critical-sized defect.

Background: The osteogenic capabilities and biodegradability of octacalcium phosphate (OCP) composites make them unique. Despite the excellent characteristics of OCP, their use is limited due to handling difficulties. In this study, we aimed to evaluate and compare three types of OCPs (cemented OCP (C-OCP), C-OCP with collagen (OCP/Col), and synthetic OCP (S-OCP) with alginate (OCP/Alg)) versus commercially available β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) regarding their potential to accelerate bone formation in defective rat tibias.

Sclerosing polycystic adenosis arising in the parotid gland with trismus: a case report and literature review.

Sclerosing polycystic adenosis (SPA) is a rare, asymptomatic disease that occurs mainly in the salivary glands. We report the case of a 51-year-old man who presented with trismus and pain upon mouth opening. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a 2-cm mass located in the anterior portion of the left parotid gland.

Case Report: Papillary Lesions at the Mouth Floor May Mimic Sialadenoma Papilliferum.

Salivary gland tumor Sialadenoma papilliferum (SialP) clinically resembles papillary epithelial lesions, such as squamous papilloma (SqP) or verrucous leukoplakia. Pathological sampling including an adequate depth of both the mucosa and submucosa layer is required for discrimination between the diseases. Though ductal proliferation in the submucosa is characteristic in SialP, papillary lesions arising at the mouth floor, specifically near the ductal orifice, are more problematic.

Ischemia-reperfusion injury is a major cause of acute kidney injury. Recent studies on the pathophysiology of ischemia-reperfusion-induced acute kidney injury showed that immunologic responses significantly affect kidney ischemia-reperfusion injury and repair. Nuclear factor (NF)-ĸB signaling, which controls cytokine production and cell survival, is significantly involved in ischemia-reperfusion-induced acute kidney injury, and its inhibition can ameliorate ischemic acute kidney injury.

Tubulointerstitial renal fibrosis is a chronic disease process affecting chronic kidney disease (CKD). While the etiological role of transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) is well known for epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in chronic kidney disease, effective therapeutics for renal fibrosis are largely limited. As a member of the TGF-β superfamily, bone morphogenetic protein-7 (BMP-7) plays an important role as an endogenous antagonist of TGF-β, inhibiting fibrotic progression in many organs.

TGF-β Pathway in Salivary Gland Fibrosis.

Fibrosis is presented in various physiologic and pathologic conditions of the salivary gland. Transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β) pathway has a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of fibrosis in several organs, including the salivary glands. Among the TGF-β superfamily members, TGF-β1 and 2 are pro-fibrotic ligands, whereas TGF-β3 and some bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) are anti-fibrotic ligands.
