Design and implementation of an automated patient-care dashboard to provide individualized patient care data and quality metrics to emergency medicine residents.

Background: The emergency department (ED) is a high-stakes training environment for emergency medicine (EM) residents and residents' ability to reflect and self-evaluate patient care is of critical importance. Patient care dashboards have been shown to increase adherence to quality guidelines and improve patient outcomes. The objectives of this study were: (1) to create a comprehensive list of evidence-based, psychologically safe patient care and quality metrics to include in a patient care dashboard for EM residents; (2) to design an EM patient care residency dashboard in a secure, cloud-based environment integrated with the electronic health record (EHR); and (3) to pilot the usability and acceptability of the dashboard among EM residents.

Utilization of marketing automation tools for delivery of a faculty development curriculum.

Background: Physician clinical educators play important roles in teaching, providing feedback, and evaluating trainees, but they often have variable preparation and competing demands on their time that make universal participation in workshops, seminars, or short courses designed to foster these skillsets inefficient or impossible.

Methods: We designed and implemented a 52-week synchronous curriculum designed to address faculty opportunities to improve teaching skills, feedback for residents and medical students, and evaluation skills, which were delivered using marketing automation tools, including text messaging and email. We evaluated the programmatic impact and feasibility of using the implementation science framework.

Physical and biophysical markers of assessment in medical training: A scoping review of the literature.

Purpose: Assessment in medical education has changed over time to measure the evolving skills required of current medical practice. Physical and biophysical markers of assessment attempt to use technology to gain insight into medical trainees' knowledge, skills, and attitudes. The authors conducted a scoping review to map the literature on the use of physical and biophysical markers of assessment in medical training.

Cold Anaphylaxis: A Case Report.

Background: Cold anaphylaxis is a severe form of hypersensitivity reaction to cold temperatures. Such reactions include a spectrum of presentations that range from localized symptoms to systemic involvement. The condition can be acquired or heritable, although it may also be idiopathic.

Background: Little is known about the relative harms of edible and inhalable cannabis products.

Objective: To describe and compare adult emergency department (ED) visits related to edible and inhaled cannabis exposure.

Design: Chart review of ED visits between 1 January 2012 and 31 December 2016.

Mental Health-related Emergency Department Visits Associated With Cannabis in Colorado.

Background: Cannabis legalization in Colorado resulted in increased cannabis-associated health care utilization. Our objective was to examine cooccurrence of cannabis and mental health diagnostic coding in Colorado emergency department (ED) discharges and replicate the study in a subpopulation of ED visits where cannabis involvement and psychiatric diagnosis were confirmed through medical review.

Methods: We collected statewide ED International Classification of Diseases, 9th Revision, Clinical Modification diagnoses from the Colorado Hospital Association and a subpopulation of ED visits from a large, academic hospital from 2012 to 2014.
