Water scarcity is the major challenge to sustainable rice production. This study examines how alternate wetting and moderate soil drying (AWMD), a widely adopted water-saving practice, influences grain-filling dynamics and starch physicochemical properties in both superior grains (located on apical primary branches, flower earlier) and inferior ones (located on proximal secondary branches, flower later). Results showed that AWMD enhanced grain-filling in inferior grains: it increased the mean (G) and peak (G) filling rates by 26.

The widely usage of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) arises environmental concerns on toxic metal mobilization, and challenges the conventional processes in water treatment. In the study Cu(II)-EDTA in near natural water was efficiently removed during a two-step electrocoagulation using Fe(0) anode (Fe-EC), including a transformation to Fe(III)-EDTA induced mainly by structural Fe(II) in anoxic Fe-EC and further degradation in oxic Fe-EC. The degradation of Fe(III)-EDTA was mostly attributed to an oxygen activation mechanism that involving O and hydroxyl radical (OH) generation, as validated by the quenching experiments and electron spin resonance.

The storage of anaerobic ammonia oxidizing bacteria (anammox) plays an important role in the application of anammox. Glycerol, sodium alginate and DMSO were used as the cryoprotectant, and vacuum lyophilization was used to prepare the anammox bacteria powder. Polyurethane/attapulgite (PU/ATT) nanocomposites derived from castor oil were prepared by incorporation of 8 wt % ATT, acid-treated ATT, and KH560-treated ATT. The effects of three ATTs (ATT, acid-ATT, and KH560-ATT) on the comprehensive properties of PU/ATT nanocomposites were systematically investigated. The results showed that the incorporation of 8 wt % of three ATTs could produce an obvious reinforcement on the castor oil-based PU and that the silane modification treatment, rather than the acid treatment, has the more effective reinforcement effect.
