Background: Congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) is a severe anomaly associated with significant pulmonary hypertension (PH) and high mortality, often requiring extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). Early prognostic markers are essential to guide clinical decisions. This study evaluated the prognostic value of right-to-left (R-L) shunting in the patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) during the early postnatal period in predicting ECMO use and mortality in neonates with CDH.

Methods: Patients with moderately to severely active CD or UC randomized to the CT-P13 SC maintenance arm of the 54-week LIBERTY trials at week 10 and who were treated in the open-label extension (weeks 56-102) were included.

Purpose: This study aimed to assess how the structural and staffing attributes of NICUs influence the mortality rates of VLBWIs, emphasizing the significance of the availability of medical personnel and the regional distribution of care facilities.

Up to half of the senior dogs suffer from canine cognitive dysfunction syndrome (CCDS), the diagnosis method relies on subjective questionnaires such as canine cognitive dysfunction rating (CCDR) scores. Therefore, the necessity of objective diagnosis is emerging. Here, we developed blood-based biomarkers for CCDS early detection.

Atypical Gradenigo's syndrome in a pediatric case: A critical review of neuroimaging.

Gradenigo's syndrome, a rare but serious complication of otitis media, encompasses a triad of symptoms including otalgia, facial palsy, and abducens nerve palsy, pointing to the involvement of the petrous apex. This case report presents an 11-year-old boy with an atypical manifestation of Gradenigo's syndrome, characterized by the absence of classic features such as abducens nerve palsy and purulent otorrhea. MRI findings were significant for petrous apicitis extending to Meckel's cave and the cavernous sinus, along with abscess formation and clivus osteomyelitis.

Evaluating Novel SP-B and SP-C Synthetic Analogues for Pulmonary Surfactant Efficacy.

Pulmonary surfactants, a complex assembly of phospholipids and surfactant proteins such as SP-B and SP-C, are critical for maintaining respiratory system functionality by lowering surface tension (ST) and preventing alveolar collapse. Our study introduced five synthetic SP-B peptides and one SP-C peptide, leading to the synthesis of CHAsurf candidates (CHAsurf-1 to CHAsurf-5) for evaluation. We utilized a modified Wilhelmy balance test to assess the surface tension properties of the surfactants, measuring spreading rate, surface adsorption, and ST-area diagrams to comprehensively evaluate their performance.

Single-dose prophylactic ibuprofen therapy for patent ductus arteriosus in preterm infants.

This study aimed to evaluate the short-term morbidities and efficacy of single-dose prophylactic intravenous ibuprofen for patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) on the first day of life in preterm infants. Data of 69 preterm infants with birth weight < 1250 g and gestational age < 30 weeks admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit were analyzed.
