Objectives: Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) pose a growing public health challenge in Vietnam. This study describes a community-based screening protocol to identify older adults and their primary family caregivers in Hai Duong province to support recruitment for a caregiver intervention clinical trial.
Methods: Village health workers were trained to identify older adults at risk for dementia using a simplified tool adapted from the California Alzheimer's Disease Centers' Assessment of Cognitive Complaints Toolkit.

Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) or drone image data are useful tools for creating machine learning-based mangrove categorization maps. Here, we present a protocol for creating a taxonomy map of mangrove species using machine learning and multispectral UAV images. We describe steps for gathering and analyzing UAV images and field data and categorizing mangroves.

Background: The increasing needs of people living with dementia (PLWD) in Vietnam present an enormous public health challenge. Vietnam is an understudied country, and little is known regarding the overall unmet needs of caregivers or the demographic risk factors associated with unmet caregiving needs. This study aimed to determine the burden of unmet care needs of community-dwelling PLWD and identify sociodemographic risks associated with unmet care needs.

Rapid and sensitive Escherichia coli (E. coli) detection is important in determining environmental contamination, food contamination, as well as bacterial infection. Conventional methods based on bacterial culture suffer from long testing time (24 h), whereas novel nucleic acid-based and immunolabelling approaches are hindered by complicated operation, the need of complex and costly equipment, and the lack of differentiation of live and dead bacteria.

Thus, the global healthcare system urgently calls for rapid, affordable, and reliable detection toolkits. Although the gold-standard nucleic acid amplification tests have been widely accepted and utilized, they are time-consuming and labor-intensive, which exceedingly hinder the mass detection in low-income populations, especially in developing countries.

The great advances in silicon photonic-sensing technology have made it an attractive platform for wide sensing applications. However, most silicon photonic-sensing platforms suffer from high susceptibility to the temperature fluctuation of an operating environment. Additional complex and costly chemical signal-enhancement strategies are usually required to improve the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR).

This study examined the use of potentially inappropriate medicines that may affect cognition (PIMcog) in people with dementia and its associated factors. Medical records of all outpatients with dementia attending a tertiary hospital in Vietnam between January 1, 2015, and December 31, 2016, were examined. Medicine use was assessed against a list of PIMcog.

The Faradaic electrochemical impedance technique is employed to characterize the impedance change of a nanoporous alumina biosensor in response towards the specific binding of dengue serotype 2 (Denv2) viral particles to its serotype 2-specific immunoglobulin G antibody within the thin alumina layer. The optimal equivalent circuit model that matches the impedimetric responses of the sensor describes three distinct regions: the electrolyte solution (R(s)), the porous alumina channels (including biomaterials) (Q(1), R(1)) and the conductive electrode substrate layer (Q(2), R(2)). Both channel resistance R(1) and capacitance Q(1) change in response to the increase of the Denv2 virus concentration.
