Purpose: To apply electron spin resonance (ESR) dosimetry to wild Japanese macaques captured in the ex-evacuation area during the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant (FDNPP) accident, the improvement of the detection limit is crucial. In this study, we optimized the microwave power in ESR measurements to suppress the noise of native radicals and enhanced the signals of radiation-induced carbonate radicals.

Materials And Methods: Tooth enamels of a Japanese macaque captured in a control area were prepared and irradiated with gamma rays from Co source.

Background: Polygenic risk scores (PRSs) improve type 2 diabetes (T2D) prediction beyond clinical risk factors but perform poorly in non-European populations, where T2D burden is often higher, undermining their global clinical utility.

Methods: We conducted the largest global effort to date to harmonize T2D genome-wide association study (GWAS) meta-analyses across five ancestries-European (EUR), African/African American (AFR), Admixed American (AMR), South Asian (SAS), and East Asian (EAS)-including 360,000 T2D cases and 1·8 million controls (41% non-EUR). We constructed ancestry-specific and multi-ancestry PRSs in training datasets including 11,000 T2D cases and 32,000 controls, and validated their performance in independent datasets including 39,000 T2D cases and 126,000 controls of diverse ancestries.

We evaluated altered cardiac metabolism in Zucker Spontaneously Hypertensive Fatty (ZSF1) rats fed an isocaloric high-fat diet versus normal chow using hyperpolarized (HP) [1-C]pyruvate MR spectroscopic imaging (MRSI). This technique exploits remarkable signal enhancement to track the metabolic fate of injected HP [1-C]pyruvate , allowing a simultaneous assessment of multiple metabolic pathways. The conversion of [1-C]pyruvate to [1-C]lactate (Lac) reflects anaerobic glycolysis activity, while the detection of C-bicarbonate (Bic) indicates glucose oxidation.

Loss-of-function mutations in Janus kinase 1/2 (JAK1/2) cause low tumor immunogenicity through defects in the induction of the transcription factor interferon regulatory factor 1 (IRF1), resulting in non-responsiveness to cancer immunotherapy reagents. Therefore, the discovery of reagents that increase IRF1 expression independent of JAK activity is clinically important for the success of cancer immunotherapy reagents. We herein demonstrated that proteasome inhibitors activated IRF1 downstream pathways in a JAK-independent manner in various cancer types.

The autoimmune disease systemic sclerosis (SSc) presents with multiple organ manifestations that often complicate management strategies. To explore variations in immune cell subsets and their link to clinical heterogeneity, here we perform single-cell profiling of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) from 21 SSc patients who never received immunosuppressive therapy. We identify a subset of EGR1 CD14 monocytes in patients with scleroderma renal crisis (SRC).

Atrial fibrillation (AF) poses significant clinical challenges due to the complex and variable geometry of the left atrial appendage (LAA), whose structure complicates the development of personalized interventions like LAA occlusion (LAAO) for stroke prevention Current reliance on animal models and cadavers for the assessment of left atrium (LA) and LAA to study AF-related disease and interventions raises reproducibility concerns, necessitating the development of high fidelity, physiologically relevant tools. To address this, we present a multimodal framework combining a soft robotic benchtop simulator, a lumped parameter model (LPM), and finite element analysis (FEA) to replicate LA function in sinus rhythm, atrial flutter, and AF. The system integrates 3D-printed, patient-specific LA geometries with soft robotic actuators to reproduce realistic wall motion and hemodynamics.

The Fukushima Health Management Survey, conducted by Fukushima Prefecture since the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake (GEJE), has not identified any health effects from radiation exposure. Complete blood counts (CBC), which are sensitive to radiation exposure, have not shown lymphocytopenia, neutropenia, anemia, or thrombocytopenia, but the white blood cell fractions have not yet been analyzed since 2011. We classified 25,885 residents (11,383 male, 14,502 female;age range, 16-84 years) in evacuation areas with external exposure dose estimates based on behavioral surveys conducted 4 months after the GEJE into two groups (0-1 [≥0 and <1] and ≥1 mSv) and analyzed changes in CBC and leukocyte fractions from fiscal year (FY) 2011 to FY2017 and their influencing factors.
