Complementary and alternative therapies (CAT) is an umbrella term applied to a diverse set of approaches, with high interest among persons with Parkinson's disease. However, scientific community regards evidence-based medicine as the only acceptable, creating a black and white dichotomy, which is neither epistemologically correct nor workable in daily practice. CAT are heterogeneous, and the label is dynamic as new scientific insights might accrue.

The discovery of levodopa in the late 60 s of twentieth century was a 'golden moment' for people with Parkinson's disease (PD). Unfortunately, clinical experience showed that some symptoms escaped from symptomatic control, and long-term complications developed. Back then, neurologists coined the term "honeymoon period" for the early phase of uncomplicated response to levodopa, and it continues to be used in scientific literature.

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative condition, characterized by motor, non-motor disability, and a reduced quality of life. Stimulated by a question raised by a person with PD, we posted an orienting survey on social media, asking whether there is possibly any “silver lining” (an upside) to having PD. Most respondents identified one or more positive changes, mainly a new focus in life, better coping skills, new activities, healthier lifestyle, and improved relationships with relatives and friends.

Background: Clinical diagnosis of atypical parkinsonisms may be challenging. The eye-of-the-tiger sign on brain MRI, typical of neurodegeneration with brain iron accumulation, has been anecdotally observed in cases clinically diagnosed as atypical parkinsonisms.

Despite the increasing evidence of the benefit of corticosteroids for the treatment of moderate-severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients, no data are available about the potential role of high doses of steroids for these patients. We evaluated the mortality, the risk of need for mechanical ventilation (MV), or death and the risk of developing a severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) between high (HD) and standard doses (SD) among patients with a severe COVID-19. Objective: The recent advances in technology are opening a new opportunity to remotely evaluate motor features in people with Parkinson's disease (PD). We hypothesized that typing on an electronic device, a habitual behavior facilitated by the nigrostriatal dopaminergic pathway, could allow for objectively and nonobtrusively monitoring parkinsonian features and response to medication in an at-home setting.
