Cefotaxime-resistant (CRHI) are a global concern, but little is known about their molecular epidemiology. The goal of this study was to perform genomic profiling of 191 CRHI from Norway ( = 183) or Sweden ( = 8) (2006-2018) and assess clonal spread using core genome multilocus sequence typing (cgMLST)-based Life Identification Number (LIN) codes based on whole genome sequencing (Ion Torrent). Cefotaxime resistance was confirmed with broth microdilution minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC), interpreted with the European Committee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing (EUCAST) breakpoints.

The primary aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of four DNA extraction methods on a collection of 200 sub-optimally stored Ixodes ricinus ticks from Southeastern Norway (177 nymphs, 11 males and 12 females). The methods were ammoniium hydroxide hydrolysis of homogenised or intact ticks and two commercial silica membrane-based kits, the QIAGEN Blood and Tissue kit and the QIAGEN Mini kit. DNA was evaluated by spectrophotometry, fluorometry, agarose gel electrophoresis and quantitative PCR.

N-acyl phosphatidylethanolamine-hydrolyzing phospholipase D (NAPE-PLD) hydrolyzes phosphatidylethanolamines (PEs) where the headgroup nitrogen has been enzymatically modified with acyl chains of four carbons or longer (N-acyl-PEs or NAPEs). The nitrogen headgroup of PE can also be nonenzymatically modified by reactive lipid aldehydes, thus forming N-aldehyde-modified PEs (NALPEs). Some NALPEs such as N-carboxyacyl-PEs are linked to PE via amide bonds similar to NAPEs, but others are linked by imine, pyrrole, or lactam moieties.

A key barrier to crop production is soil salinity, which is a serious and growing problem world-wide due to inadequate water drainage, saline ground water, or inadequate rainfall to wash away soil salts. There is substantial promise for plant-associated microbes isolated from halophytes (salt-tolerant plants) to enhance growth of salt-sensitive crop plants in salty soils. The objective of this study was to identify salt-tolerant bacteria from native halophytes and characterize their ability to stimulate the growth of alfalfa in salty soil conditions.

-Acyl-phosphatidylethanolamine hydrolyzing phospholipase D (NAPE-PLD) is a zinc metallohydrolase that hydrolyzes -acyl-phosphatidylethanolamines (NAPEs) to form -acyl-ethanolamines (NAEs) and phosphatidic acid. Several lines of evidence suggest that reduced NAPE-PLD activity could contribute to cardiometabolic diseases. For instance, expression is reduced in human coronary arteries with unstable atherosclerotic lesions, defective efferocytosis is implicated in the enlargement of necrotic cores of these lesions, and NAPE-PLD products such as palmitoylethanolamide and oleoylethanolamide have been shown to enhance efferocytosis.

We present a theoretical study of intersystem crossing (ISC) in acrolein and ketene with the Ehrenfest method that can describe a superposition of singlet and triplet states. Our simulations illustrate a new mechanistic effect of ISC, namely, that a superposition of singlets and triplets yields nonadiabatic dynamics characteristic of that superposition rather than the constituent state potential energy surfaces. This effect is particularly significant in ketene, where mixing of singlet and triplet states along the approach to a singlet/singlet conical intersection occurs, with the spin-orbit coupling (SOC) remaining small throughout.
