This study presents a cutting-edge framework for assessing earthquake vulnerability and risk in residential areas of Al-Seeb, Muscat Governorate (Sultanate of Oman). Drawing upon a rich dataset encompassing seismic, geotechnical, structural, environmental, and socioeconomic parameters, thematic vulnerability maps were developed using a GIS-based analytic hierarchy process (GIS-AHP). These were systematically integrated to produce comprehensive risk matrices.

Mangroves are known as highly functional and productive ecosystems despite the numerous human and environmental disturbances they face continuously. These disturbances are known to affect their ecosystem states as well as their biomass allocation in their roots, trunks, stems, and leaves. We utilized a combination of plotless sampling methods and established common allometric equations to examine and compare the aboveground, trunk, and root weights of over 600 trees found along the Guyana coastline in natural, degraded, and restored ecosystems.

Ureteral obstruction is a commonly encountered condition during daily practice. The mainstay of treatment for ureteral obstruction is drainage and relief of the obstruction, regardless of the etiology. Drainage using the traditional ureteral Double J stent has been recently challenged with new ureteric stent that proposed to have better durability and patient quality of life, particularly in cases that require prolonged insertion.

Peyronie's disease (PD) is a connective tissue disorder characterized by abnormal collagen deposition in the tunica albuginea, leading to penile curvature, pain, and erectile dysfunction. This study aimed to evaluate the outcomes of a combined treatment protocol incorporating collagenase clostridium histolyticum (CCH), vacuum erection device, and tadalafil. A retrospective analysis was conducted on 99 male patients with PD treated at the Department of Urology, Hamad Medical Corporation (Doha, Qatar) between January 2018 and January 2020.

This paper leverages data from February 6, 2023, Kahramanmaras (Turkiye) Earthquake (M 7.8) to evaluate seismic risk and assess bridge damage through a fuzzy synthetic approach (FSA). A novel hierarchical damage classification framework is introduced, integrating critical factors such as ground conditions, structural characteristics, and seismic intensity.

This study critically examines the reliability and resilience of the Muscat coastal highway network (CHN) under the compounded effects of earthquakes and floods, representing interacting multi-hazard scenarios. The analysis utilized fragility functions for both earthquake-induced and flood-induced landslides, integrating these with traffic data for selected highway links to estimate bridge damage and assess CHN functionality in post-hazard conditions. Economic sensitivity analysis revealed a significant increase in costs due to flood-induced landslides, emphasizing the impact of dominant intensity measures on network costs and traffic flow.

Engineering rockmass classifications are an integral part of design, support and excavation procedures of tunnels, mines, and other underground structures. These classifications are directly linked to ground reaction and support requirements. Various classification systems are in practice and are still evolving.

Article Synopsis
  • * Most cases involve tumors that act as "leading points," but cases related to kidney stones (urolithiasis) are uncommon and can complicate treatment.
  • * The article discusses a case of urolithiasis-related ureteric intussusception that resulted in urosepsis, which was successfully treated using an endourological method.

Mangrove leaves have unique features that enable them to cope with shifting environmental conditions while preserving their general functionality and efficiency. We examined the morphological characteristics and chlorophyll content (spectroscopically) of 600 mature leaves selected from 30 trees located in one degraded, one restored, and one natural mangrove ecosystem along Guyana's coastline. Systematic sampling was carried out using the closest individual sampling method in the wet and dry seasons.

Article Synopsis
  • - The bladder is the most common place for foreign bodies in the urinary tract, often self-inserted due to curiosity or psychological issues.
  • - A case is highlighted involving a 76-year-old man who had blood in his urine for four days, leading to the discovery of a 15 mm bladder stone via CT scan.
  • - The patient successfully underwent cystolitholapaxy, emphasizing the need for prompt treatment of foreign bodies in the bladder.

Citrus plants are widely utilized for edible purposes and medicinal utility throughout the world. However, because of the higher abundance of the antimicrobial compound D-Limonene, the peel waste cannot be disposed of by biogas production. Therefore, after the extraction of D-Limonene from the peel wastes, it can be easily disposed of.

Article Synopsis
  • * The STDP model is validated using historical earthquake data and incorporates variables like peak ground acceleration and tunnel specifications to predict potential damage states effectively.
  • * The study introduces the "STD multiple graphs" for visualizing damage patterns and provides seismic design guidelines to help mitigate risks in tunnel projects globally in earthquake-prone areas.

The Jammu Region (JR) in the northwestern Himalayas trigged by medium to high magnitude near-field as well as far-field earthquake events, including the most recent 2019 Mirpur earthquake. In this paper, an attempt has been made to develop the zonation map for liquefaction hazard in the JR based on liquefaction potential index ( ) and probability of liquefaction ( ). To achieve this, factor of safety against liquefaction was estimated using standard penetration test (SPT) data collected from geotechnical consultancies and shear wave velocity measured during field testing at 243 locations, and an integrated liquefaction hazard map generated.

The Indian sarsaparilla () is a commonly used plant in Indian traditional medicine of Ayurveda for the preparation of various non-alcoholic beverages. However, limited studies are available on the essential oil of roots (HRO); therefore, the study evaluated the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antidiabetic activities of root essential oil as well as insecticide potential against the common pests of stored food materials (, and ). The repellant efficacy of HRO was found to be high against (8.

Diabetic foot infection is a global epidemic and a major public health concern. Development of microbial resistance to many antimicrobial agents in foot ulcer leads to serious complications. Therefore, the study aims to identify the microbiological profile and the potential risk factors among diabetic and non-diabetic foot ulcer patients.

Tropical forests account for at least 50% of documented diversity, but anthropogenic activities are converting forests to agriculture and urban areas at an alarming rate, with potentially strong effects on insect abundance and diversity. However, the questions remain whether insect populations are uniformly affected by land conversion and if insect conservation can occur in agricultural margins and urban gardens. We compare butterfly populations in tropical secondary forests to those found in sugarcane and urban areas in coastal Guyana and evaluate the potential for particular butterfly communities to inhabit human-modified landscapes.
