Hanseniaspora species are among the most prevalent yeasts found on grapes and other fruits, with a growing role in wine fermentation due to their distinctive metabolic profiles. This review focuses on the functional divergence within the genus, particularly between the fast-evolving fruit clade and the slow-evolving fermentation clade. While species in the fruit clade often exhibit limited fermentation capacity with interesting enzymatic activity, members of the fermentation clade-especially H.

Aims: Young people are consuming less healthy diets such as Mediterranean diet (MedDiet), which is associated with an increased risk of chronic diseases, including obesity. This systematic review aimed to synthesize the literature concerning the prevalence and trends of adherence to the (MedDiet) in a young Spanish population (aged 2-24 years) from 2004 to 2023.
Data Synthesis: The present review included observational studies and final assessments of longitudinal studies to assess the prevalence or trend in adherence to the MedDiet using the Mediterranean Diet Quality Index for Children and Adolescents (KIDMED) in three categories (low (≤3), medium (4-7), and high (≥8)).

A qualitative study using in-depth interviews was conducted to identify the level of knowledge, beliefs, and perceptions of family members and healthcare workers regarding the use of morphine as a pain treatment for individuals at the end of life. The study included healthcare professionals and caregivers of individuals who had died from serious illnesses affiliated with a rural health center in an inland city in the western region of Uruguay between August 2021 and June 2022. The findings may contribute to understanding the determinants that influence opioid use in healthcare centers lacking access to specialized palliative care.

Orthohantaviruses, family Hantaviridae, are zoonotic agents that pose a significant public health threat, particularly in South America, where they cause severe respiratory illnesses in humans. Despite their importance, knowledge gaps remain regarding the distributions of both the viruses and their rodent hosts in Southern South America, a region characterized by a great complexity of viral genotypes and reservoirs. This review provides an updated overview of orthohantavirus hosts and their associated viral genotypes in Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay.

Ammonia is one of the most important inputs in the global chemical industry, used primarily in fertilizers and explosives. It is increasingly recognized as a potential energy carrier. Its production is dominated by the Haber-Bosch process, which requires high energy consumption and significant capital investment, and contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions.

Anti-CD20 monoclonal antibodies are gaining clinical relevance in the nephrology community due to their demonstrated efficacy and favorable safety profiles across short-, medium-, and long-term use. Initially developed for hematologic malignancies and multiple sclerosis, B-cell depletion therapies are now being investigated across a broader spectrum of autoimmune diseases, including glomerulopathies, both with and without associated podocytopathy. Recent advances have led to the development of novel anti-CD20 agents that are being used not only as potential alternatives to corticosteroids but also as adjunctive therapies in complex clinical settings.

Noncoding RNAs play pivotal roles in tumorigenesis and cancer progression. Recent evidence has identified vault RNAs (vtRNAs) as critical regulators of cellular homeostasis. The human genome encodes four vtRNA paralogs, which are differentially expressed in cancer tissues and contribute to tumor development.

Despite a plethora of evidence available on the benefits of palliative care (PC), it is estimated that only about 14% of those living in low- to middle-income countries (LMIC) or developing countries have access to PC. To globally examine PC expert perspectives regarding PC infrastructure and resources within each country, drug and opioid availability to provide PC, and workforce and educational issues. Descriptive, open-ended survey seeking first-hand qualitative perspectives.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of beak trimming-using a hot blade or infrared radiation-on mortality, egg production, feather pecking, and corticosterone levels in laying hens, using systematic review-meta-analysis (SR-MA) methodology. A total of 1775 citations were identified. The number of birds evaluated was 76 for corticosterone, 6172 for mortality, and 5460 for egg production.

Tabata-based High-Intensity Functional Training (HIFT) elicits hybrid adaptations in both cardiorespiratory and neuromuscular systems. However, its high Rating of Perceived Exertion (RPE) may limit its feasibility. This study aimed to analyze the acute physiological and psychological responses to a modified low-volume Tabata-based HIFT incorporating short efforts, with a focus on potential differences between sexes.

Isostructural metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) built from oxidiacetate, oda, [LaCo(oda)(HO)]·14HO (), [PrCo(oda)(HO)]·14HO (), and [LaNi(oda)(HO)]·14HO () were synthesized and characterized to investigate their proton conduction properties. The presence of a hydrogen-bonding network formed by guest water molecules within the MOF channels was evidenced through crystallographic analysis and computational simulations. Powder conductivity measurements revealed a Grotthuss-type proton transport mechanism with consistent activation energies across all three compounds, but grain boundary effects limited overall performance.

The study aimed to determine whether confinement with TMR during the first 21 DIM, followed by grazing supplemented with partial mixed ration (PMR), alleviates negative energy balance, enhancing productive performance and accelerating the resumption of ovarian cyclicity in primiparous and multiparous dairy cows, relative to a control group managed on grazing supplemented with PMR after calving. Following calving, 16 primiparous and 24 multiparous Holstein dairy cows were blocked and randomly distributed into 2 treatments: one included grazing plus supplementation with PMR after calving (T0), while the other one involved confinement with TMR ad libitum during the first 21 DIM and the same feeding management of T0 from d 22 onwards until 60 DIM (T21). Primiparous cows showed no significant differences between treatments in milk production.

Introduction: Acute kidney disease (AKD) is defined as functional and/or structural abnormalities of kidneys with health implications and a duration of ≤90 days. This study aimed to evaluate AKD as a more appropriate approach to these conditions for which we used a cohort of COVID-19 patients in whom kidney impairment is expressed by proteinuria and/or loss of function.
Methods: Observational, prospective, longitudinal, multinational cohort study conducted across five Latin American countries.

Immunoassays are complementary diagnostic tools in human cystic echinococcosis (CE) despite sensitivity/specificity limitations, and synthetic peptides have been suggested to potentially overcome disadvantages reported for traditional antigens. Herein, a systematic study comparing the immunodiagnostic performance of AgB1 versus synthetic peptides derived from its sequence was carried out. Thus, a eukaryotic-expressed recombinant AgB1 was assessed, together with a reported synthetic peptide (p176, N-terminal portion of AgB1) and two new peptides within p176 (namely pB1a and pB1b) corresponding to predicted linear B-cell epitopes.

Arachidonic acid metabolism through cyclooxygenase (COX) and lipoxygenase (LOX) pathways is fundamental to inflammation, vascular homeostasis, and neuronal signaling. Here, we investigated the roles of platelet-expressed COX (PTGS1) and LOX (ALOX12) isoforms in amyloid-β (Aβ) secretion, a process implicated in the pathogenesis of cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA) and Alzheimer's disease (AD). Using an integrative approach combining bioinformatic protein-protein interaction mapping, pathway enrichment analysis, and experimental validation, we identified extensive networks linking PTGS and ALOX isoforms to cytoskeletal remodeling, mitochondrial function, and vesicle trafficking.

The antelope Addax nasomaculatus is a wild ruminant that is critically endangered and difficult to manipulate in vivo. There is limited information regarding the gastrointestinal nematode genera (GIN) present in the species and their pharmacological sensitivity to antiparasitic drugs. This study aimed to evaluate the seasonal prevalence of gastrointestinal nematode genera in the addax antelope and its relationship with in vitro sensitivity to macrocyclic lactones and imidazothiazoles in captivity.
