The utilisation of edible insects for human nutrition is a long-standing practice in many parts of the globe, and is being gradually introduced into countries without an entomophagic tradition as well. These unconventional sources of protein of animal origin have arisen as a sustainable alternative to other animal protein sources, such as meat. This review intends to present the compilation of data in the scientific literature on the chemical composition and nutritional value of the bee brood of species and subspecies as edible foods.

Unlabelled: Psychological distress is an extremely relevant phenomenon in cancer patients due to its high prevalence, especially when cancer diagnoses are increasingly frequent. It is estimated that only one-third of patients with clinically significant levels of distress are referred to mental health services. To reinforce this point, most health centers lack the resources for distress screening.

Physical fitness is a key determinant of health in university students, a population at risk of sedentary behaviors and lifestyle-related health issues. The European Fitness Badge (EFB) provides a comprehensive assessment of fitness parameters and individualized feedback. This study aimed to evaluate the physical fitness of Romanian university students using the EFB to examine the effects of activity profile, sex, age, and academic major and to associate physical fitness with body composition indices, including Body Mass Index (BMI) and A Body Shape Index (ABSI).

Many patients at the end of life receive antibiotics to alleviate symptoms and improve quality of life; however, clear guidelines supporting decision making about the use of antibiotics are still lacking. This study aimed to evaluate the benefits and harms of antibiotic use among patients under a palliative care community support team in Portugal. An observational, cross-sectional, retrospective study was conducted on 249 patients who died over a two-year period, having been followed for at least 30 days prior to their death.

The first crocodyliform specimen from the Maastrichtian Chorrillo Formation (Austral Basin, Patagonia) is here described. The discovery was made about 30 km to the SW of the town of El Calafate (Province of Santa Cruz, Argentina) and consists of a beautifully preserved and articulated skull and jaws, and part of the postcranial skeleton that were preserved encased in a large concretion. This new taxon belongs to the notosuchian clade Peirosauridae, representing the latest and southernmost record for this group of crocodyliforms.

An optimal experimental design is a structured data collection plan aimed at maximizing the amount of information gathered. Determining an optimal experimental design, however, relies on the assumption that a predetermined model structure, relating the response and covariates, is known a priori. In practical scenarios, such as dose-response modeling, the form of the model representing the "true" relationship is frequently unknown, although there exists a finite set or pool of potential alternative models.

: The pain associated with invasive procedures is one of the most common experiences in the pediatric population. Its management remains insufficient due to gaps in healthcare training and knowledge. The aim of this study was to analyze the attitudes, beliefs, care practices, and training of healthcare professionals in relation to pediatric pain, through the development and application of the questionnaire 'Humanisation of Pediatric Care in Pain Management with a Non-Pharmacological Approach (HUPEDCARE-Q)'.

Background And Objective: Nonmetastatic (M0) clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) recurs in ∼20% of patients within 5 yr after surgery. With no biomarkers available, recurrence detection relies on radiological imaging. Urine glycosaminoglycan profiles (GAGomes) were previously associated with M0 ccRCC recurrence.

: Preschool hearing screening is justified by the risk of late onset hearing loss, the high prevalence of otitis media with effusion in school-aged children, and the critical timing just before children begin formal reading and learn to write. This study describes the results of the annual preschool hearing screening program in Campo Maior from 2007 to 2025 (nineteen years) and correlates the audiological referral to the otoscopy findings by the otolaryngologists. : Retrospective study using clinical records from nineteen years of preschool hearing screening.

This work describes a non-enzymatic electrochemical glucose biosensor combining for the first time molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) for glucose concentration and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) on screen-printed carbon electrodes (SPEs), where both MIPs and AuNPs were assembled in situ. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) was used to evaluate the analytical performance of the sensor, which has a linear range between 1.0 µM and 1.

Palliative care aims to alleviate suffering and prioritize the quality of life of patients facing serious and fatal diseases, such as cancer. Cancer patients, especially in advanced stages, often have many difficult-to-control symptoms, such as pain, fatigue, dyspnea, anxiety, and depression, requiring the attention of a multidisciplinary team highly trained in palliative care and end-of-life management. Pain, dyspnea, nausea, and vomiting are the focus of symptomatic assessment in palliative care, but patients experience other equally important symptoms that do not receive as much attention and are often overlooked, which negatively impacts the quality of life of these patients.

Introduction: The MOVE-AIR study was designed to explore the moderating role of movement behaviours on the association between air pollutants and health outcomes in Portuguese children. Secondarily, it aims to characterise the settings (both indoor and outdoor) where children are exposed to air pollutants and to co-create solutions with participants to mitigate the exposure to air pollutants in children's daily life. This study aims to describe the MOVE-AIR study protocol in detail.

Central adiposity and poor cardiorespiratory fitness are modifiable risk factors for various diseases. This study investigated their impact on CD4 differentiated T regulatory (Treg) cell responses. Thirty-eight young adults were classified into high cardiorespiratory fitness/low visceral adipose tissue (High V̇O-Low VAT, n = 20) and low cardiorespiratory fitness/high VAT (Low V̇O-High VAT, n = 18).

Bone marrow adipocytes (BMAs) are emerging as metabolically active endocrine organs within the bone marrow microenvironment, engaging in extensive crosstalk with vascular niches, osteogenic cells, and hematopoietic compartments. In aging and metabolic disorders, mesenchymal and adipocyte progenitors undergo significant quantitative and qualitative transformations that shift from osteogenesis toward adipogenesis. This enhanced adipogenic profile alters the secretion of key adipokines and cytokines, thereby impairing endothelial function, destabilizing the vascular niche, and reducing hematopoietic stem cell support-culminating in bone fragility and disrupted blood cell production.

The synthetic 1-methoxyxanthone, 2-methoxyxanthone, and 4-methoxyxanthone (compounds 1, 2, and 3, respectively) were tested against amastigotes of Trypanosoma cruzi (C2C4, LacZ), showing an activity profile that depends on the position of the methoxy group in the xanthone ring, targeting pteridine reductase 1 of T. cruzi (TcPTR1). The initial pharmacokinetic assessment involved biophysical characterization of the interaction between the xanthones and human serum albumin (HSA, the main globular protein responsible for drug distribution), using circular dichroism (CD), steady-state and time-resolved fluorescence measurements, combined with in silico calculations.
