The paper presents the design, manufacturing, and evaluation of a 3D-printed pancreas phantom model used for preoperative surgical planning and surgical training. Several manufacturing and design alternatives have been explored, leading to the final solution, which consisted of a transparent 3D printed elastic shell of the pancreas, resulting in an empty volume that was filled with a custom hydrogel to ensure an anatomically realistic behaviour. Additionally, specific vascular structures were printed using elastic material and specific colours.

A novel dynamic prescribed performance fuzzy-neural backstepping control for PMSM under step load.

Neural Netw

October 2025

Department of Automation and Applied Informatics, Politehnica University of Timisoara, 300223 Timisoara, Romania; Center for Fundamental and Advanced Technical Research, Romanian Academy - Timisoara Branch, 300223 Timisoara, Romania. Electronic address:

In order to meet the performance requirements of permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) systems with time-varying model parameters and input constraints under step load, this paper proposes a dynamic prescribed performance fuzzy-neural backstepping control approach. Firstly, a novel finite-time asymmetric dynamic prescribed performance function (FADPPF) is proposed to tackle the issues of exceeding predefined error, control singularity, and system instability that arise in the traditional prescribed performance function under load changes. To address model accuracy degradation and control quality deterioration caused by nonlinear time-varying parameters and input constraints in the PMSM system, a backstepping controller is designed by combining the speed function (SF), fuzzy neural network (FNN), and the proposed FADPPF.

A Computational Approach to Increasing the Antenna System's Sensitivity in a Doppler Radar Designed to Detect Human Vital Signs in the UHF-SHF Frequency Ranges.

Sensors (Basel)

May 2025

Department of Communication, IT and Cyber Defense, "Nicolae Balcescu" Land Forces Academy, 550170 Sibiu, Romania.

In the context of Doppler radar, studies have examined the changes in the phase shift of the S transmission coefficient related to minute movements of the human chest as a response to breathing or heartbeat. Detecting human vital signs remains a challenge, especially when obstacles interfere with the attempt to detect the presence of life. The sensitivity of a measurement system's perception of vital signs is highly dependent on the monitoring systems and antennas that are used.

Analysis of the Mechanical Behavior of Tree-like Fractal Structures in SLM-Manufactured Components.

Materials (Basel)

May 2025

Department of Manufacturing Engineering, Faculty of Industrial Engineering, Robotics and Production Management, Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, Memorandumului 28, 400114 Cluj-Napoca, Romania.

Tree-like fractals as internal structures are a novel alternative to conventional lattice structures for mechanical components produced via Selective Laser Melting (SLM). This study explores the mechanical behavior of tree-like fractals, targeting flexure tests on SLM test samples manufactured using two distinct fractal configurations. The main objective is to develop numerical models that can predict the effect of the branching angle on the stress-strain curves, for both fractal configurations, from experimental flexure tests.

Transitional care may play a vital role in the sustainability of Europe's future healthcare system, offering solutions for relocating patient care from hospital to home, therefore addressing the growing demand for medical care as the population is ageing. Re-hospitalization for the same initial pathological cause is a recurrent problem among older adults with chronic conditions such as heart failure or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. However, to be effective, it is nowadays essential to integrate into the transitional care process innovative Information and Communications Technology technologies to ensure that patients with comorbidities experience a smooth and coordinated transition from hospitals or care centers to home, thereby reducing the risk of rehospitalization.

Mental health disparities have been reported among sexual minority individuals; minority stress theory posits that such disparities are a result of stigma and discrimination. We estimated the prevalence of mental disorders across sexual orientation groups among first-year college students and whether differences across sexual orientation groups varied by gender and country-level LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer) social acceptance. Using data (N = 53,175; 13 countries) from the World Mental Health Surveys International College Surveys, we performed multilevel logistic regressions to estimate the associations between sexual orientation (i.

Decision Support Systems Laboratory, School of Electrical & Computer Engineering, National Technical University of Athens, Ir. Politechniou 9, Athens, 157 73, Greece.

Federated Learning is transforming electrical load forecasting by enabling Artificial Intelligence (AI) models to be trained directly on household edge devices. However, the prediction accuracy of federated learning models tends to diminish when dealing with non-IID data highlighting the need for adaptive hyperparameter optimization strategies to improve performance. In this paper, we propose a novel hierarchical federated learning solution for efficient model aggregation and hyperparameter tuning, specifically tailored to household energy prediction.
