Materials (Basel)

August 2025

Department of Mechanics and Applied Computer Science, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Bialystok University of Technology, 45C Wiejska St, 15-351 Bialystok, Poland.

Novel polyester-polyurethane polymeric materials were formulated by combining a natural aliphatic polyester, poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (P3HB), with a synthetic aliphatic polyurethane via melt blending. The resulting fully biodegradable compositions were functionally modified through the incorporation of urea, with the aim of enabling post-consumer utilization of the material residues as nitrogen-rich fertilizers. The fabrication process was systematically established and optimized, focusing on homogeneous blending and processability.

The improvement of the microbial quality of food products is one of the most important aspects of the world economy with a significant impact on the health of consumers. Due to the content of lipids, water, and proteins, meat is highly susceptible to degradation mediated by enzymes or microorganisms. Among the wide variety of animal-derived consumption products, fish is highly perishable and characterized by a short shelf life.

Thermocouple Sensor Response in Hot Airstream.

Sensors (Basel)

July 2025

Faculty of Mechanical Engeenering and Aeronautics, Rzeszow University of Technology, al. Powstanców Warszawy 12, 35-959 Rzeszow, Poland.

The response of a temperature sensor in a gas stream depends on several heat transfer phenomena. The temperature of the thermocouple's hot junction in the hot stream is lower than the measured temperature, which causes a measurement error. Compensation for this error and interpretation of the values indicated by the temperature sensor are possible by using a sensor dynamics model.

The uniform distribution of APIs is essential in tablet formulations, particularly in direct compression, where powder blending is the only means of ensuring dose homogeneity. This study evaluated the influence of three mixing techniques-V-type mixer, planetary ball mill, and vibratory ball mill-on the physical properties and content uniformity of naproxen sodium tablets. Blends consisting of naproxen sodium, cellulose, PVP, calcium carbonate, and magnesium stearate were prepared under varied mixing intensities and characterized in terms of flowability, compressibility, and particle size distribution.

Shear Strength of Lightweight Concrete Structural Elements Reinforced with FRP Bars: Experimental Studies vs. Code Predictions.

Materials (Basel)

July 2025

Department of Roads and Bridges, The Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Architecture, Rzeszow University of Technology, 35-959 Rzeszów, Poland.

Using lightweight concrete (LWC) reduces the dead weight of the concrete structure by 25-30% compared to ordinary concrete. However, harmful and corrosive substances penetrate the lightweight concrete matrix due to its high permeability, resulting in higher maintenance costs and a reduced structure service life. Therefore, in harsh environments where conventional steel bars are susceptible to corrosion, fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) bars should be used for reinforcement.

This paper presents the results of an experimental study on the buckling and failure behavior of thin-walled square columns made from PLA and PETG polymers using FDM 3D printing technology. Thin-walled square columns made from thermoplastic materials, intended for use in lightweight load-bearing applications such as structural supports in transportation, construction, and mechanical assemblies, were tested under axial compression from the onset of buckling to complete failure. The novelty of this work lies in the application of an interdisciplinary experimental approach to the analysis of the behavior of thin-walled columns made of PLA and PETG materials during FDM 3D printing under compression until complete failure, as well as the use of acoustic and optical diagnostic methods for a comprehensive assessment of damage.

The erosion resistance of materials against solid particles is a very important property, especially in the transportation of powders or in aeronautics (dust inside jet engines). There is a strong need to introduce new materials that have higher solid particle erosion resistance than state-of-the-art materials. Thus, in the present work, the solid erosion particles of high entropy alloys (HEAs) based on the Al0.

One of the important parameters of the sheet metal forming process is the coefficient of friction (CoF). Therefore, monitoring the friction coefficient value is essential to ensure product quality, increase productivity, reduce environmental impact, and avoid product defects. Conventional CoF monitoring techniques pose a number of problems, including the difficulty in identifying the features of force signals that are sensitive to the variation in the coefficient of friction.
