Purpose: In deep learning-based noise reduction, larger networks offer advanced and complex functionality by utilizing its greater degree of freedom, but come with increased unpredictability, raising the potential risk of unforeseen errors. Here, we introduce a novel denoising model for diffusion-weighted images that intentionally limits the network output freedom by incorporating multiple pathways with varying degrees of freedom, with the aim of minimizing the chance of unintended alterations to the input. The purpose of this pilot study is to assess the model's ability to perform effective denoising under the constraints.

Background: Plasma biomarkers have emerged as promising screening tools for Alzheimer's disease (AD) because of their potential to detect amyloid β (Aβ) accumulation in the brain. One such candidate is the plasma Aβ42/40 ratio (Aβ42/40). Unlike previous research that used traditional immunoassay, recent studies that measured plasma Aβ42/40 using fully automated platforms reported promising results.

Fractional flow reserve derived from coronary CT (FFR-CT) is a noninvasive physiological technique that has shown a good correlation with invasive FFR. However, the use of FFR-CT is restricted by strict application standards, and the diagnostic accuracy of FFR-CT analysis may potentially be decreased by severely calcified coronary arteries because of blooming and beam hardening artifacts. The aim of this study was to evaluate the utility of deep learning (DL)-based coronary computed tomography (CT) data analysis in predicting invasive fractional flow reserve (FFR), especially in cases with severely calcified coronary arteries.

Cancer cell-derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) have unique protein profiles, making them promising targets as disease biomarkers. High-grade serous ovarian carcinoma (HGSOC) is the deadly subtype of epithelial ovarian cancer, and we aimed to identify HGSOC-specific membrane proteins. Small EVs (sEVs) and medium/large EVs (m/lEVs) from cell lines or patient serum and ascites were analyzed by LC-MS/MS, revealing that both EV subtypes had unique proteomic characteristics.

Department of Biomolecular Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering, Nagoya University, Furo-cho, Chikusa-ku, Nagoya, 464-8603, Japan; Institute of Nano-Life-Systems, Institutes of Innovation for Future Society, Nagoya University, Furo-cho, Chikusa-ku, Nagoya, 464-8603, Japan; Institute for Quant

Cell-free DNA (cfDNA) and extracellular vesicles (EVs) are molecular biomarkers in liquid biopsies that can be applied for cancer detection, which are known to carry information on the necessary conditions for oncogenesis and cancer cell-specific activities after oncogenesis, respectively. Analyses for both cfDNA and EVs from the same body fluid can provide insights into screening and identifying the molecular subtypes of cancer; however, a major bottleneck is the lack of efficient and standardized techniques for the isolation of cfDNA and EVs from clinical specimens. Here, we achieved catch-and-release isolation by hydrogen bond-mediated binding of cfDNA in urine to zinc oxide (ZnO) nanowires, which also capture EVs by surface charge, and subsequently we identified genetic mutations in urinary cfDNA.
