Healthy dietary pattern and risk of rheumatoid arthritis: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Objectives: We aimed to determine the degree to which a healthy dietary pattern is associated with incident rheumatoid arthritis (RA).

Methods: We registered this systematic review and meta-analysis in PROSPERO (CRD42025645056). Inclusion criteria were validated diet (anti-inflammatory, Mediterranean, Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH), and/or healthy eating index [HEI]); validated RA definition; dietary exposure preceding RA; and randomized controlled trial, cohort, or case-control design.

The Association of Premature Atherosclerosis with Ischemic Stroke in Young People with HIV in Lusaka, Zambia.

Background: Premature atherosclerosis has been observed among people with HIV (PWH) with high risk of cerebrovascular disease. The aim of this study was to evaluate premature atherosclerosis in young PWH with and without ischemic stroke.

Methods: We conducted a prospective case-control study at the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka, Zambia between March 2022 and October 2024, comparing young PWH with non-cardioembolic ischemic stroke (cases) with PWH without a history of stroke (controls) matched (1:2) for age, sex and race.

Evaluation of Atypical FISH Findings by RNA Sequencing.

Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) utilizing a break-apart probe (BAP) design is a rapid, clinically useful method for targeted evaluation of gene rearrangements in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tumors. While clinically validated BAP FISH assays usually yield unequivocal positive or negative results, rare tumors yield equivocal FISH results. This study had two aims: 1) to summarize typical and atypical BAP FISH results on 56,584 FFPE solid tumors over approximately one decade of clinical testing, and 2) to investigate the clinical utility of RNA-seq for tumors with equivocal FISH results.

The aim was to assess whether subject's participation in early-phase chemoprevention trials was satisfactory and to identify features associated with subjects' satisfaction. Thirteen trials that investigated a range of candidate agents from 2006-2021 by the Cancer Prevention Network were included. The 5-item "Was It Worth It?" (WIWI) questionnaire was administered to all subjects at the end of each trial's intervention or at early termination.

Practice Changing Updates in Perioperative Medicine Literature 2024. A Systematic Review.

Every year, new publications advance our understanding of perioperative medicine. These publications are spread over a variety of journals that require dedicated effort to identify. To aid this task, we have undertaken a multi-database literature search from January to December of 2024.

Introduction: Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a rare and progressive disease associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Prostacyclins, including treprostinil, are a mainstay of PAH treatment, particularly in patients with intermediate to high risk of death. Following the approval of treprostinil inhalation solution for PAH, treprostinil dry powder inhaler (DPI) was developed as a small, portable, low-maintenance device to improve patient experience.

Background And Aims: Cross sectional imaging is an integral part of evaluating disease activity and complications in Crohn's disease. There remains a need to develop guidance that may be for both clinical trials and clinical practice. This initiative aimed to develop consensus statements for definitions of response and remission, transmural healing, optimal timing for assessing, and evaluation of treatment efficacy in patients with Crohn's disease using magnetic resonance enterography (MRE) in clinical trials and clinical practice.

Disseminated Varicella-Zoster Virus Infection with Internal Organ Involvement: A Scoping Review of 156 Cases.

Visceral disseminated varicella-zoster virus infection (VD-VZV) involves the hematogenous spread of VZV from the skin to the internal organs. Though rare, it is potentially life-threatening, predominantly affecting immunocompromised individuals. Diagnosis is often delayed due to nonspecific symptoms mimicking other viral illnesses.

Pleuroparenchymal fibroelastosis: review of 81 cases.

Background: Pleuroparenchymal fibroelastosis (PPFE) is an upper lobe - predominant interstitial pneumonia pattern that can be idiopathic or secondary and has unclear clinical characteristics, disease course, and prognostic factors. This study analyzed PPFE patient characteristics, identified mortality predictors, and compared disease progression between idiopathic and secondary PPFE.

Multifunctional peptide nanofiber coatings enhance bone regeneration on xenograft materials.

Conventional bone grafts such as xenografts, allografts, and synthetic substitutes are widely used in regenerative dentistry, but their biological performance remains suboptimal. To address this limitation, this study investigates the effect of multifunctional peptide amphiphile (PA) nanofiber coatings on graft bioactivity. Peptide amphiphile molecules incorporating osteoinductive (DGEA-PA), mineralization-promoting (EEE-PA), adhesive (DOPA-PA), and antimicrobial (GL13K-PA) sequences were synthesized via Fmoc-based solid-phase peptide synthesis.

Cerebellum mitochondrial DNA copy number is increased in Parkinson's disease.

Bioinformatics methods can be used to quantify mitochondrial DNA copy number from whole genome sequencing (WGS) data. We evaluated mitochondrial DNA copy number from human brain-derived WGS data using the fastMitoCalc tool. 341 Parkinson's Disease cerebellum samples were compared with 74 age-matched controls from the North American Brain Expression Consortium.

A spouse's perspective on communication breakdowns and supportive strategies for semantic variant primary progressive aphasia.

Background: The language symptomology in semantic variant primary progressive aphasia (svPPA), namely word finding difficulties with loss of word meaning, leads to multimodal communication difficulties that can be detrimental to establishing and maintaining relationships, including those with spouses.

Aims: This study describes a spouse's experiences of communicating with an individual with svPPA, the role of communication supports, and expectations for speech-language therapy.

Method: A semi-structured interview was conducted with the spouse of an individual with svPPA and analyzed using thematic analysis.

Background: Catheter-based percutaneous mechanical aspiration (PMA) is an emerging acute intervention for debulking infective vegetations in right-sided infective endocarditis (RSIE); however, its outcomes and safety remain undefined.

Objectives: The authors sought to assess early clinical outcomes and safety of PMA in patients with RSIE.

Methods: The CLEAR-IE (Cardiac Lesion Extraction and Aspiration Registry for Infective Endocarditis) is a large multicenter retrospective registry of consecutive patients with RSIE who have undergone PMA.

Background: Women veterans are the fastest growing group of new Veterans Health Administration (VA) users with more than half a million using VA care in 2018. VA has implemented policies and programs to meet the reproductive and sexual health (RSH) needs of women veterans who increasingly rely on VA to provide comprehensive care.

Objective: We aimed to describe changes in the prevalence of RSH diagnosis categories among women veterans using VA care in fiscal year (FY) 2010 and FY2018.

Family history of fracture and fracture risk: a meta-analysis to update the FRAX® risk assessment tool.

Unlabelled: In the largest meta-analysis of international cohorts to date, a family history of fracture is confirmed as a significant BMD-independent predictor of future fracture risk. Parental and sibling histories of fracture carry the same significance for future fracture, including the impact of family hip fracture on future hip fracture risk.

Purpose: We have undertaken a meta-analysis of international prospective cohorts to quantify the relationship between a family history of fracture and future fracture incidence.

Background: This individual participant data meta-analysis aimed to determine whether time to treatment influences the effect of intraarterial thrombolysis (IAT), intravenous thrombolysis, and conservative standard therapy on visual outcomes in nonarteritic central retinal artery occlusion.

Methods: We searched MEDLINE, CENTRAL, and Embase up to June 2023 for studies reporting treatment modality and peri-treatment best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) for ≥5 participants, excluding patients with nonsevere vision loss (BCVA <1.0 logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution [logMAR]) or treated after 24 hours of symptom onset.

Background: Germline pathogenic variants (PVs) in ATM increase the risk of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) but the underlying tumor biology of PDAC associated with germline PVs in ATM have not been adequately explored.
