As glycosylations are difficult to analyze, their roles and effects are poorly understood. Glycosylations in human milk (HM) differ across lactation. Glycosylations can be involved in antimicrobial activities and may serve as food for beneficial microorganisms.

Neurology

September 2023

From the Department of Neurology (A.A., G.A., B.M.M., E.S., D.H.B., P.G., D.S., N.M., M.K., A.M., S.D., T.R., K.O.P.), University of Miami; Jackson Memorial Hospital (A.A., G.A., C.F.B., E.S., D.H.B., P.G., D.S., N.M., M.K., A.M., S.D., T.R., K.O.P.); University of Miami Center for Computational Sci

Objectives: This study investigated video eye tracking (VET) in comatose patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI).

Methods: We recruited healthy participants and unresponsive patients with TBI. We surveyed the patients' clinicians on whether the patient was tracking and performed the Coma Recovery Scale-Revised (CRS-R).

Outcomes in Patients With COVID-19 With Acute Encephalopathy and Coma: An International Prospective Study.

Neurology

May 2023

From the Intensive Care Unit (S.L., G.J., A.F., M. Paul, M.-C.d.-C.), Centre Hospitalier de Versailles-Site André Mignot, Le Chesnay; University Paris-Saclay (S.L., G.J.), UVSQ, INSERM, CESP, Team « PsyDev », Villejuif; IctalGroup (S.L., P.S., J.C., M.L., G.P., G.J., A. Galbois, O.L., P. Bailly,

Background And Objectives: To report the prevalence of acute encephalopathy and outcomes in patients with severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and to identify determinants of 90-day outcomes.

Methods: Data from adults with severe COVID-19 and acute encephalopathy were prospectively collected for patients requiring intensive care unit management in 31 university or university-affiliated intensive care units in 6 countries (France, United States, Colombia, Spain, Mexico, and Brazil) between March and September of 2020. Acute encephalopathy was defined, as recently recommended, as subsyndromal delirium or delirium or as a comatose state in case of severely decreased level of consciousness.

Theranostic Contribution of Extracellular Matrix Metalloprotease Inducer-Paramagnetic Nanoparticles Against Acute Myocardial Infarction in a Pig Model of Coronary Ischemia-Reperfusion.

Circ Cardiovasc Imaging

Unidad Mixta de Investigación Cardiovascular, Departamento de Cardiología, Universidad Francisco de Vitoria, Hospital Ramón y Cajal (IRYCIS), Madrid, Spain (R.R.-C., I.H., L.T., J.D.-M., L.B., C.Z.).

Background: Rapid screening and accurate diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction are critical to reduce the progression of myocardial necrosis, in which proteolytic degradation of myocardial extracellular matrix plays a major role. In previous studies, we found that targeting the extracellular matrix metalloprotease inducer (EMMPRIN) by injecting nanoparticles conjugated with the specific EMMPRIN-binding peptide AP9 significantly improved cardiac function in mice subjected to ischemia/reperfusion.

Methods: In a porcine model of coronary ischemia/reperfusion, we tested the theragnostic effects of administering 0.

The characteristic lobulated nuclear morphology of granulocytes is partially determined by composition of nuclear envelope proteins. Abnormal nuclear morphology is primarily observed as an increased number of hypolobulated immature neutrophils, called band cells, during infection or in rare envelopathies like Pelger-Huët anomaly. To search for sequence variants affecting nuclear morphology of granulocytes, we performed a genome-wide association study using band neutrophil fraction from 88,101 Icelanders.

Background and Purpose- To identify the specific post-endovascular stroke therapy (EVT) peak systolic blood pressure (SBP) threshold that best discriminates good from bad functional outcomes (a priori hypothesized to be 160 mm Hg), we conducted a prospective, multicenter, cohort study with a prespecified analysis plan. Methods- Consecutive adult patients treated with EVT for an anterior ischemic stroke were enrolled from November 2017 to July 2018 at 12 comprehensive stroke centers accross the United States. All SBP values within 24 hours post-EVT were recorded.

Evaluation of interfacial equilibrium constants from surface potential data: silver chloride aqueous interface.

J Colloid Interface Sci

September 2009

Laboratory of Physical Chemistry, Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb, Horvatovac 102a, 10000 Zagreb, Croatia.

A single crystal silver chloride electrode (SCr-AgCl) was used to measure the inner surface potential (Psi(0)) at the silver chloride aqueous electrolyte interface as a function of activity of Cl(-) ions as determined by the Ag/AgCl electrode. Absolute values of the surface potential were calculated from electrode potentials of SCr-AgCl using the value of point of zero charge (pCl(pzc)=5.2) as the value of point of zero potential.
