The latest studies suggest a beneficial influence of husbandry factors, including increased space allowance, access to perches, and roughage, on the welfare of chickens; however, their effects on meat quality are divergent. Two experiments (EXP1 and EXP2) were performed to determine the husbandry factors affecting the meat quality of 42-day-old Ross 308 chickens (n = 180). The examined factors in EXP1 were stocking density (35 kg/m2 vs 41 kg/m2) and enrichment (access to perches), whereas in EXP2, enrichment (perches) and access to roughage (dried lucerne) were examined.

The nuclear shape observed after the forced expression of mouse or human protamine 1 (PRM1) in fibroblasts led us to propose the hypothesis that the PRM1 sequence plays an important role in imposing the overall shape of the protaminized nucleus. The African BioGenome Project (AfricaBP) is a Pan-African initiative aimed at improving food systems and biodiversity conservation through genomics while ensuring equitable data sharing and benefits. The Open Institute is the knowledge exchange platform of the AfricaBP, which aims to bridge local knowledge gaps in biodiversity genomics and bioinformatics and enable infrastructural developments. In 2024, the AfricaBP Open Institute advanced this mission by organizing 31 workshops that attracted more than 3500 registered attendees across 50 African countries, provided training to 401 African researchers in genomics, bioinformatics, molecular biology, sample collections and biobanking, and ethical considerations, across all five African geographical regions involving 40 African and non-African organizations.
