The survival rates for children with cancer have increased appreciably over the last few decades; however, childhood cancer survivors continue to suffer from long-lasting sequelae. Studies have demonstrated that the presence of malnutrition, over- and under-nutrition, at diagnosis or the duration of malnutrition during treatment is associated with increased toxicity, infection, and inferior survival. Dietary habits, along with behavioral and socioeconomic status, are known factors that lead to obesity or undernutrition and can affect the prognosis and quality of life of children with cancer.

RAASi, MRA and FGF-23 in CKD progression: the usual suspects?

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) affects almost 10% of the global population and is a significant health issue. The presence of CKD increases the risk of fatal and non-fatal cardiovascular events, overall mortality, and progression of renal damage leading to kidney failure. Inhibiting the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) through angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor or angiotensin II receptor blockers reduces proteinuria and slows eGFR decline in CKD patients.

Current Situation of Solid Organ Transplantation from HIV-Positive Donors to HIV-Positive Recipients in Europe. The Spanish Perspective.

Objectives: There is limited information on the use of organs from HIV-positive donors (HIV D+) for HIV-positive recipients (HIV R+) in Europe. In some countries the use of HIV D+ organs is prohibited by law. This study aimed to assess the attitudes of Spanish kidney and liver transplant (KT/LT) teams towards HIV D+/R+ KT/LT through a nationwide survey, and to evaluate the current situation across Europe regarding legislation and reported cases.

Prostate-Specific Antigen Response at Six Months Predicts Progression in Metastatic Hormone-Sensitive Prostate Cancer Treated With Apalutamide.

Background: PSA response to apalutamide combined with androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) in metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer (mHSPC) has been linked to prognosis. Post hoc analyses from clinical trials suggest that PSA levels at 6 months are critical for predicting radiographic progression-free survival (rPFS) and overall survival (OS). Real-world evidence (RWE) is needed to confirm these findings.

Prognostic factors and effect modifiers in patients with relapsed or refractory follicular lymphoma who failed at least two lines of therapy: a systematic literature and expert clinical review.

To enhance the quality of real-world external comparative studies, it is essential to systematically identify, prespecify, and account for prognostic variables and effect measure modifiers (EMMs), especially between emulated target trial and real-world control arms. These factors can then be utilized to evaluate cohort comparability and perform covariate adjustments, such as in propensity score models. A systematic literature review (SLR)-based identification of prognostic factors, coupled with expert clinical review, offers a comprehensive approach to evaluating and ranking the level of evidence, while also assisting in selection of prognostic factors to assess imbalances between cohorts in single-arm trials and real-world data studies.

Optimization and validation of the international metabolic prognostic index for CD19 CAR-T in large B-cell lymphoma.

While CD19-directed CAR T-cell therapy represents a transformative immunotherapy for relapsed/refractory large B-cell lymphoma (r/r LBCL), more than 50% of patients ultimately progress or relapse. Recently, the International Metabolic Prognostic Index (IMPI) - incorporating age, stage, and metabolic tumor volume (MTV) - was shown to improve prognostication for LBCL frontline treatment. Here, we examine its utility to predict toxicity and survival in CAR-T recipients.

Sample Size: To enroll 252 participants in three buckets (126 ischemic stroke patients, 126 hemorrhagic stroke patients (including 14 patients with an isolated infratentorial hemorrhage).

Introduction: The Spanish consensus on the reduction of oral corticosteroid (OCS) use in asthma management was recently published to address the issue of OCS overuse in this area. This study evaluates the degree of awareness and implementation of this consensus by healthcare professionals.

Methods: A longitudinal study was conducted with a survey completed by pulmonologists and allergists in 2 rounds conducted 6 months apart.

Validation of an in vitro testing platform for intra-arterial thrombolytics on human thrombectomy retrieved clots.

Background: Endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) is the standard treatment for acute ischemic stroke (AIS) due to large vessel occlusion. However, many patients fail to achieve good outcomes, especially without first pass reperfusion. Intra-arterial thrombolytics such as recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rtPA) and tirofiban have shown potential as adjunctive therapies.

Introduction: Third and subsequent kidney transplants (TASKT) remain a surgical and immunological challenge, allegedly associated to a higher incidence of surgical complications and graft loss. Although the improved survival of pediatric transplant recipients has led to an increasing number of potential candidates for TASKT, reports regarding TASKT in children are practically non-existent.

Impact of minimal residual disease on the outcome of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation for childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia within the FORUM Trial.

In the randomized cohort of the international phase-III FORUM trial, which showed the superiority of total-body irradiation (TBI) over chemotherapy-based conditioning prior to hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) for pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), type of conditioning and remission phase, but not pre-HSCT minimal residual disease (MRD), were associated with outcome. We report the impact of MRD within the extended FORUM cohort. Patients (n=1014), 4-21 years old, transplanted from a matched donor who had ≥1 MRD measurement prior to and/or 100 days and/or 1 year after HSCT were eligible.

Quality of Life in Patients With Type 2 Inflammatory Asthma.

Introduction: Asthma is a heterogeneous disease that often coexists with type 2 inflammatory (T2i) conditions in many individuals with severe asthma, leading to heightened exacerbations that diminish their quality of life (QoL). Despite this, there is a noticeable scarcity of QoL assessment tools specifically designed for individuals with T2i-related asthma.

Objectives: To analyse the asthma subset of T2i patients, derived from a survey conducted by the patient-driven T2i Network Project, aimed at identifying common drivers and challenges related to the QoL of T2i patients.
