This article assesses the effect of energy diversity on energy risk across 64 countries over the period of 2000-2018. Employing methodologies including threshold regression, Method of Moments of Quantile Regression (MMQR), partially linear functional-coefficient (PLFC) panel models and instrumental variable (IV) estimation, our findings suggest that energy diversity plays a significant role in reducing energy risk. Panel threshold and partially linear functional-coefficient models highlight the importance of energy diversification in mitigating energy risk, particularly in countries with higher levels of economic development.

ImmunoMet Oncogenesis: A New Concept to Understand the Molecular Drivers of Cancer.

J Clin Med

February 2025

Department of Pediatrics, Biochemistry and Division of Experimental Oncology, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Alberta, 113 Street 87 Avenue, Edmonton, AB T6G 2E1, Canada.

The appearance of cancer progresses through a multistep process that includes genetic, epigenetic, mutational, inflammatory and metabolic disturbances to signaling pathways within an organ. The combined influence of these changes will dictate the growth properties of the cells; the direction of further malignancy depends on the severity of these "disturbances". The molecular mechanisms driving abnormal inflammation and metabolism are beginning to be identified and, in some cases, are quite prominent in pre-condition states of cancer and are significant drivers of the malignant phenotype.

The present study is based on the design and construction of a selective label-free electrochemical aptasensor for testosterone (TST) detection in real samples. A carbon paste electrode modified with gold nanoparticles and metal-organic framework-ionic liquid (AuNPs/FeO-NH@Cu-ILCPE) was used to covalently immobilize the TST aptamer (TST-apt). The AuNPs/FeO-NH@Cu-ILCPE represents a distinguished ability for enhancement of electrochemical peak current, which may emerge from the aptamer on the electrode surface.

Predictive modeling and optimization in dermatology: Machine learning for skin disease classification.

Comput Biol Med

May 2025

Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST), GUST Engineering and Applied Innovation Research Center (GEAR), Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Hawally, 32093, Kuwait. Electronic address:

The accurate diagnosis of skin diseases is crucial for effective patient management and treatment, yet traditional diagnostic methods often involve subjective interpretation and can lead to variability in outcomes. In this study, we harness the power of machine learning classifiers to enhance diagnostic accuracy by predicting skin diseases based on histopathological features extracted from biopsy samples. We evaluated the performance of six widely used classifiers: Random Forest, Logistic Regression, Stochastic Gradient Descent (SGD) Classifier, Support Vector Machine (SVM), AdaBoost, and Naive Bayes.

The proposed study investigates the characteristics of Stefan blowing and activation energy on MHD Casson Diamond-[Formula: see text][Formula: see text]based trihybrid nanofluid over a sheet with LTNECs (local thermal non-equilibrium conditions) and permeable medium. The significance of Marangoni convection as well as heat generation are considered. In order to examine the properties of heat transmission in the absence of local thermal equilibrium conditions, this paper makes use of a simple mathematical model.

Inductive power transfer systems have attracted a lot of attention for wireless charging of electric vehicles due to its simplicity and ease of use. But because of the wireless transmission, it faces certain significant issues including leakage inductance and power loss. This paper offers a ground-breaking contribution to the development of inductive power transfer (IPT) systems intended for wireless electric vehicle (EV) charging by addressing the critical problem of power losses brought on by leakage inductance.

Lactoferrin (LF) is an 80 kDa glycoprotein that contains approximately 700 amino acids and is a member of the transferrin family. The essential properties of LF, including antimicrobial, antiviral, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and probiotic effects, have been studied for decades. The iron chelation activity of LF is significantly associated with its antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties.

A novel series of imidazole derivatives (4a-d) was synthesized a microwave-assisted synthesis and whose structures were elucidated using H and C NMR, ESI-HRMS, and FT-IR spectroscopy. Photophysical characterization revealed absorption peaks around 305 nm and 327-365 nm, with strong photoluminescence (PL) emission maxima ranging between 435 and 453 nm. Aggregation-induced enhanced emission (AIEE) behavior was observed in THF/HO mixtures, where 4a-c showed maximal fluorescence at certain solvent ratios, indicating aggregate formation.

Biological invasions and human migrations have increased globally due to socio-economic drivers and environmental factors that have enhanced cultural, economic, and geographic connectivity. Both processes involve the movement, establishment, and spread of species, yet unfold within fundamentally different philosophical, social and biological contexts. Hence, studying biological invasions (invasion science) and human migration (migration studies) presents complex parallels that are potentially fruitful to explore.

Decision-making in uncertain and imprecise environments often requires robust mathematical frameworks capable of effectively representing and aggregating conflicting information. Circular Intuitionistic Fuzzy Sets (C-IFSs) are powerful tools for modeling such complexities by combining intuitionistic and cubic fuzzy set properties. In this study, we extend the applicability of C-IFSs by integrating them with the Hamacher operational framework, offering a more flexible and adaptive approach to aggregation.
