Surfactant-rich aqueous media are common in natural environments. The sea surface microlayer and sea spray droplets are good examples and are also frequently markedly enriched in organic pollutants. This study focuses on the degradation kinetics of organic pollutants initiated by the hydroxyl radical in such surfactant-rich environments.

The discovery of solute precursors of crystalline materials, such as biominerals, recently challenged the classical nucleation theory (CNT). One emerging method for investigating these early-stage intermediates in solution is dissolution dynamic nuclear polarization (dDNP)-enhanced nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. Recent applications of dDNP to calcium carbonate (CaC) and calcium phosphate (CaP) mineralization have demonstrated the feasibility of identifying and tracing very early-stage prenucleation clusters (PNCs).

While synthetic developments for the synthesis of trifluoromethoxylated arenes have flourished over the years, the cleavage of a C-OCF bond remains a niche topic and a synthetic challenge to overcome. This review provides an overview of major advances made in activating a strong aryl C-OCF bond, enabling C-C, C-H, and C-Heteroatom bond formations. These advances underscore the transformative potential of further developments in this emerging field.

Background: Superficial injection of hyaluronic acid (HA)-based gels is a widely used method to restore skin quality and achieve a more youthful appearance. While the clinical benefits of such procedures are well established, their biological mechanisms of action remain poorly understood.
Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of two cross-linked HA gels (IPN-12.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the evolution of jump and sprint force-production capacities with maturation in young soccer players. One hundred sixteen young elite male soccer players aged 11-17 years were assigned to six different groups according to their maturity status. The force-velocity (F-V) profiles in jumping and sprinting performances were compared among groups.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD), heart failure (HF) and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) are pathologies that may remain silent for a long time and thus are largely underdiagnosed in clinical practice. The use of biomarkers may help detect people already suffering from these diseases at an early stage or at increased risk to develop them in a near future. The aim of this article is to discuss the place of the assays of albuminuria, natriuretic peptide (BNP/proBNP) and high-sensitivity troponin as well as lipoprotein(a) to help in the diagnosis and prognosis assessment of individuals at risk of presenting or developing a CKD, HF or ASCVD.

Ball milling experiments were conducted on spin crossover (SCO) powder and SCO@polyurethane composite samples. The study reveals that the presence of the TPU matrix acts as a shield for the SCO particles upon grinding, precluding their deactivation. This result is encouraging for the integration of SCO materials into devices.

Background: Neuropathic pain (NP) is frequently resistant to conventional treatments. Botulinum toxin type A (BT-A) is a recommended option for focal peripheral NP, but the dynamics of its effect in real-life conditions remain poorly characterized.
Objective: To assess BT-A efficacy in a real-world study of patients with focal peripheral NP, over a 1-year follow-up period.

In the human face, the lips play a key role in social interactions and are a major element of makeup strategies. However, the amount of data available on lips, particularly relating to colour, is limited in comparison to that on skin. To gain a better understanding of lip colour, this study aimed to assess its diversity across four ethnicities (Asian Chinese, African American, Hispanic American and Caucasian American and French).

Objective: Porphyrins are ubiquitous metabolites and are constitutive of the bacterial metabolome of healthy skin. Their consideration has until now been limited to their pro-inflammatory activity in acne vulgaris. The present work suggests a new role for these molecules in the onset of skin ageing.

Objective: While associations of ultra-processed food (UPF) consumption with adverse health outcomes are accruing, its environmental and food biodiversity impacts remain underexplored. This study examines associations between UPF consumption and dietary greenhouse gas emissions (GHGe), land use, and food biodiversity.

Background: Hypertension remains a critical public health issue in Germany, affecting millions of individuals. Mobile health applications (mHealth apps) offer promising solutions for improving patient outcomes and adherence in hypertension management. Despite their advantages in healthcare, the adoption of mHealth apps by general practitioners (GPs) in Germany remains limited to date.

LONP1 encodes a mitochondrial protease essential for protein quality control and metabolism. Variants in LONP1 are associated with a diverse and expanding spectrum of disorders, including Cerebral, Ocular, Dental, Auricular, and Skeletal anomalies syndrome (CODAS), congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH), and neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD), with some individuals exhibiting features of mitochondrial encephalopathy. We report 16 novel LONP1 variants identified in 16 individuals (11 with NDD, 5 with CDH), further expanding the clinical spectrum.

Endothelial Colony-Forming Cells (ECFCs) are recognized as key vasculogenic progenitors in humans and serve as valuable liquid biopsies for diagnosing and studying vascular disorders. In a groundbreaking study, Anceschi et al. present a novel, integrative strategy that combines ECFCs loaded with gold nanorods (AuNRs) to enhance tumor radiosensitization through localized hyperthermia.

Introduction: Complex chromosomal rearrangements (CCRs) are frequently associated with infertility and have been described in the literature. Chromoanagenesis corresponds to a group of CCRs with a high number of chromosome breakpoints. These CCRs involving small structural variations can only be identified by using high-resolution genomic techniques.

This article presents a new set of semantic feature production norms, collected from 580 young adults, for 360 French concepts across various semantic categories. Although empirically derived feature norms have been developed for several languages and have been shown to be useful for investigating semantic memory and providing assessment tools, none are currently available for native French-speaking populations. In this study, the participants performed a property generation task in which they were asked to list features to describe the characteristics of each given concept (e.

Volume correlative light and electron microscopy (vCLEM) is a powerful imaging technique that enables the visualization of fluorescently labeled proteins within their ultrastructural context. Currently, vCLEM alignment relies on time-consuming and subjective manual methods. This paper presents CLEM-Reg, an algorithm that automates the three-dimensional alignment of vCLEM datasets by leveraging probabilistic point cloud registration techniques.

Extreme event attribution assesses how climate change affected climate extremes, but typically focuses on single events. Furthermore, these attributions rarely quantify the extent to which anthropogenic actors have contributed to these events. Here we show that climate change made 213 historical heatwaves reported over 2000-2023 more likely and more intense, to which each of the 180 carbon majors (fossil fuel and cement producers) substantially contributed.
