The importance of actin cytoskeleton dynamics in immune cell function is highlighted by the discovery of inborn errors of immunity (IEIs) that are caused by defects in individual actin-regulatory proteins, resulting in immune-related actinopathies. In addition to susceptibility to infection, these often present with a vast array of autoimmune and autoinflammatory manifestations.

Pediatric urinary health and school health conditions in France: A political urgency?

Purpose: The high frequency of urinary disorders and their complications among school-aged children is common but few studies have investigated their predictors such as poor urinary hygiene habits, inappropriate use of school toilets, and deteriorated school toilets conditions. The question is whether individual factors (behaviors) conditioned by environmental factors (toilet conditions) play a role in functional urinary disorders.

Materials And Methods: We performed an electronic cross-sectional observational study from October 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024, in the department of Vienne (France), among children's parents.

Social insects rely on multiple communication channels. These channels have traditionally been considered innate, eliciting stereotyped responses. However, recent research has shown that cognitive modulation occurs in communication contexts long assumed to be entirely genetically encoded, thus revealing a previously unrecognized cognitive plasticity in social insect communication.

[Understanding biology to identify new therapeutic targets beyond chemotherapy in ovarian granulosa cell tumors].

Granulosa cell tumors (GCTs) are rare ovarian neoplasms, accounting for 2-5% of all ovarian cancers. Two histological types have been described: juvenile (JGCT) and adult (AGCT), the latter accounting for around 95% of the GCTs. AGCTs are mostly diagnosed at an early stage and commonly have a good prognosis.

The diagnosis of hemolysis is still based on straightforward biochemical parameters: haptoglobin (the most sensitive), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), and unconjugated bilirubin. Anemia is not always present. Reticulocyte counts typically exceed 120×10/L, except in cases of associated vitamin deficiency or during the very early phase of acute hemolysis.

Introduction: Many women of childbearing age are being treated for chronic conditions that require long-term medication. We assessed the knowledge of women being treated in internal medicine and clinical immunology, regarding the impact of their disease and specific treatments on a potential pregnancy.

Methods: Between September 1st, 2019, and November 1st, 2020, in four hospitals in the Poitou-Charentes region, a questionnaire was given to every woman aged 18 to 44 who came in for an internal medicine and clinical immunology consultation for the follow-up of a chronic systemic disease.

[Appropriateness of prescribing injectable iron: A single-center retrospective study in a hospital setting].

Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate the appropriateness of intravenous iron prescribing in our hospital setting before and after an educational campaign.

Results: Over two distinct periods (2021 and 2022), 239 prescriptions were analyzed. The primary indications were anemia and/or iron deficiency (83%) and blood management (13%).

Background And Purpose: Cervicocephalic artery dissection (CCAD) is a well-recognized cause of ischemic stroke. However, complex forms of CCAD, characterized by a wide intimal inlet without a visible intramural hematoma, pose diagnostic challenges and complicate endovascular access to the true lumen when recanalization is required. We aimed to analyze the clinical presentation, outcomes, and feasibility of endovascular treatment of complex CCAD and to propose a novel morphological classification.

This study presents two complementary methodologies to artificially elevate circulating Acyl-CoA-binding protein (ACBP) levels in mice under CRS.

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic disorder primarily known for its severe impact on lung function, but it also significantly affects the digestive system, leading to complications such as intestinal blockages, malabsorption, inflammation, and microbial dysbiosis. The study of CFTR (Cystic Fibrosis Transmembrane Conductance Regulator) effects on intestinal physiology is critical for developing new effective treatments. This work highlights the use of the mouse intestine as a valuable model for analyzing cellular electrophysiology and CFTR function.

Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is among the most prevalent human malignancies globally, with approximately 887,000 new cases diagnosed each year. However, despite these available treatments, the survival rate of patients with HNSCC remains low.

Animal models are essential for investigating the neurobiological mechanisms underlying BD, but selecting an appropriate model is critical to ensure relevance to human behavior. A protocol for measuring phenotypical facial disease markers in a mouse model of iatrogenic Cushing's syndrome.

Cushing's syndrome is caused by chronic exposure to excessive levels of glucocorticoids. It is characterized by significant phenotypic alterations including increased visceral adiposity and fat deposits on the cheeks, leading to a characteristic 'moon face' appearance. Although glucocorticoid therapy is widespread, its associated side effects are of significant clinical concern.

Background: Traffic fatalities within Powered Two-Wheelers (PTW) users are mostly due to head and thoracic injuries. This study assesses airbag use prevalence among PTW users involved in Road Traffic Crashes (RTCs) in France and aims to estimate airbag effectiveness in protecting against fatality risk.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted using French national police crash data from 1 January 2019 to 31 December 2022, including a total of 69,350 PTW users.

Effect of ECMO Flow Variations on Pulmonary Capillary Wedge Pressure in Patients With Cardiogenic Shock.

Background: The hemodynamic effects of femoro-femoral venoarterial (VA) extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) on pulmonary capillary wedge pressure (PCWP) remain poorly defined. High ECMO flow is believed to increase PCWP and the risk of pulmonary edema; yet, supporting in vivo physiological data are lacking.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of incremental femoro-femoral VA-ECMO flow variations on PCWP, hemodynamic, and echocardiographic parameters in patients with cardiogenic shock during the early phase of VA-ECMO support, after stabilization.

EASY-edit: a toolbox for high-throughput single-step custom genetic editing in bacteria.

Targeted gene editing can be achieved using CRISPR-Cas9-assisted recombineering. However, high-efficiency editing requires careful optimization for each locus to be modified, which can be tedious and time-consuming. In this work, we developed a simple, fast and cheap method: Engineered Assembly of SYnthetic operons for targeted editing (EASY-edit) in Escherichia coli.

Assessment of GFR Estimation Methods in Patients with Obesity.

Purpose: Obesity is an independent risk factor for chronic kidney disease, and accurate estimation of the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is crucial. However, limited data are available on the performance of the European Kidney Function Consortium (EKFC) equation in individuals with overweight or obesity. We evaluated the performance of the EKFC equation by comparing its estimated GFR (eGFR) to values obtained from the 2021 Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration (CKD-EPI) equation and machine learning (ML) models, using measured GFR (mGFR, obtained via plasma iohexol clearance) as a reference standard in a cohort of patients with overweight or obesity.
