This study developed heterogeneous catalysts composed of ZnO and CeO supported on H-ZSM-5 for the direct conversion of methane (CH) and carbon dioxide (CO) into acetic acid. The acid-base and electronic properties were modulated through oxide impregnation and reduction, aiming to create active sites capable of simultaneously activating both reactants. The samples were characterized by XRD, N physisorption, HRTEM/EDS, NH-TPD, CO-TPD, TPR, FTIR, XPS, CO-DRIFTS, and TGA, and tested in a batch reactor at 300 °C and 10 bar.

This work investigated the effect of zinc oxide nanoparticles functionalized with curcumin (ZnO+CUR) supplementation during the maturation (IVM) of bovine oocytes on the embryo production and the cellular antioxidant response. A total of 1,625 cumulus-oocyte complexes (COCs) were cultured in the maturation medium in the absence (0 µM - control) or presence of different concentrations of ZnO+CUR (3 µM, 6 µM or 12 µM). After IVM, COCs were destined either to 1) embryo production or 2) analysis of reactive oxygen species production, superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, catalase (CAT) activity and total antioxidant capacity (FRAP).

Acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) is a medical emergency that needs immediate diagnosis and treatment. Podoplanin, a transmembrane glycoprotein that binds CLEC-2 on platelets, was recently demonstrated to be abnormally expressed in leukemic blasts in APL, as opposed to other forms of AML, in a study using thawed primary cells. This study aimed to explore and validate the diagnostic accuracy of measuring podoplanin expression by flow cytometry in the differential diagnosis of APL and other forms of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) as part of the diagnostic work-up of all cases suspected of AML in an academic hematology center.

This study investigates the synthesis of aromatic nitriles using an evolved variant of OxdF1 (L318F/F306Y), an aldoxime dehydratase from Pseudomonas putida F1, engineered for improved catalytic efficiency toward benzaldehyde oxime. The double OxdF1 (L318F/F306Y) mutant effectively catalyzes the conversion of various benzaldoxime derivatives to the corresponding nitriles. Due to the enzyme's inherent instability, immobilized whole-cell systems are employed in a flow reactor to improve its stability and broaden its applicability, with the biotransformation of benzaldehyde oxime and 2,6-difluorobenzaldehyde oxime serving as case studies.

The study investigated the impact of different treatments on recovery from calcaneal tendinopathy in rats, focusing on the gastrocnemius muscle. Tendinopathy is caused by repetitive overload, leading to structural collagen damage and chronic muscle inflammation. Three therapeutic approaches were compared: photobiomodulation (PBM), advanced platelet-rich fibrin (A-PRF) injection, and a combination of the two.

While agriculture is essential for food security, the intensive use of pesticides in modern farming practices raises concerns on their impact, in particular from a One Health perspective. In 2024, Brazil approved 663 new pesticides, a 19% increase in comparison with 2023. The occupational exposure of rural workers is known to be associated with a range of health outcomes, including cancer.

The aim of this study was to propose reference values for the Dynamic Evaluation Method of Lower Limb Joint Alignment (MADAAMI II). During the 2023 Joinville Dance Festival, 346 dancers (315 females and 31 males), aged between 15 and 58 years, with a minimum of 5 years of ballet experience, were randomly evaluated. The dancers were filmed performing the three-step sequence (demi plié, grand plié, and fondu) of the MADAAMI II, in the first foot position, with self-selected turnout and at 120 degrees.

Pediatric high-grade gliomas remain a significant therapeutic challenge due to their resistance to conventional treatments. The aim of this study was to investigate the cytotoxic potential of solamargine (SM), a natural glycoalkaloid, alone and in combination with the chemotherapeutic agent temozolomide (TMZ) against the human KNS-42 glioma cell line. Solamargine significantly reduced cell viability and proliferation in a concentration-, time-, and hypoxia-dependent manner, while selectively sparing non-tumor human astrocytes (NHA).

BACKGROUND Uveal melanoma is the most common primary intraocular malignancy in adults, often diagnosed late in resource-limited settings. The diagnosis is made through a combination of clinical ophthalmologic examination, B-mode ultrasound, and histopathological study. This report details a case of a 67-year-old woman with progressive vision loss and ocular pain due to an inferomedial uveal melanoma to highlight therapeutic limitations from delayed diagnosis.

Objective: The objective of this work is to investigate different sunscreens and Viscogel group organoclays for the preparation of new intercalated sunscreens to improve the effectiveness and safety in photoprotection using new approach methodology (NAMs).

Methods: For this study, we examined Diethylamino hydroxybenzoyl hexyl benzoate (DHHB), octyl methoxycinnamate (OMC), Bemotrizinol (BEMT) and Viscogel S4®, S7®, and B8® using a set of Saccharomyces cerevisiae mutant strains that are sensitive to UVA, UVB and Solar Simulated Light (SSL) to evaluate their photoprotective and mutagenic potential. Additionally, we developed delaminated nanocomposites by chemical intercalation reactions followed by ultrasonic treatment to enhance clay exfoliation.

Secondary metabolites are important bioactive compounds for diet and medicine. This study optimizes the extraction of hydroethanolic herbal extracts using an EDGE (Energized Dispersive Guided Extraction) system, evaluates their antioxidant capacity, and analyzes correlations among antioxidant activity, total phenolic content, and individual compounds. A Doehlert matrix design was used to optimize extraction, having temperature and time as independent variables, and total phenolic content (mg GAE/g) as the response, quantified via the Folin-Ciocalteu method.

This review highlights the integration of drug repurposing and nanotechnology-driven delivery strategies as innovative approaches to enhance the antifungal activity of statins against mucosal candidiasis, providing a framework for future translational research and clinical application. The rising prevalence of antifungal resistance and virulence factors of Candida albicans underscore the limitations of current therapies. Statins, commonly used as lipid-lowering agents, have emerged as attractive repurposed drug candidates due to their ability to interfere with fungal ergosterol biosynthesis and Ras-mediated signaling pathways.

Plasmablastic lymphoma (PBL) is a rare and aggressive non-Hodgkin lymphoma with a poor prognosis and short survival rates. It is classified as a large B-cell lymphoma subtype, but carries a plasmacytic immunophenotype. Therefore, PBL has pathogenetic overlaps with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma not otherwise specified (DLBCL NOS) and plasma cell neoplasms (PCNs).
