Purpose: Hypertension (HTN) is a complex disorder regulated by multiple physiological systems. Each individual's underlying genetic architecture strongly influences inter-individual variability in therapeutic responses to HTN. Consequently, identifying candidate genes that contribute to the genetic basis of HTN remains a significant challenge.

Background: The pathophysiology of renal dysfunction requires population-based study. It is debatable in the literature whether cardiovascular metrics have an impact on cystatin C levels.
Methods: Using public-use biomarkers data of The National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health (Add Health) Wave 5 data, we tested, after adjusting for age (range: 32-42), anthropometrics (body mass index, waist circumference, and arm circumference), hemoglobin A1C, low-density lipoprotein, triglyceride, smoking, and sex, the association of 5 clinical cardiovascular measures (systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, mean arterial pressure, pulse pressure, and pulse rate) with cystatin C levels.

The interaction between halogen species and metal surfaces plays a crucial role in numerous surface-driven processes. The adsorption behavior and thermodynamic stability of bromine (Br) atoms on the Cu(100) surface using density functional theory (DFT) with van der Waals (vdW) corrections and atomistic thermodynamics is investigated. Surface adsorption was analyzed across three high-symmetry sites-top, bridge, and hollow-at various coverages from (0.

Background: Hospital-acquired infections remain a critical concern globally. Fungal contamination of reusable hospital humidifiers, especially in intensive care units (ICUs), represents an under-recognized threat. These devices, if improperly maintained, may become reservoirs for opportunistic pathogens such as Aspergillus and Fusarium, thereby compromising patient safety.

The supramolecular host-guest interaction between heteroleptic iridium(iii) complexes and cucurbit[10]uril (Q[10]) in an aqueous medium was investigated in this work. Both studied iridium complexes, [Ir(ppy)(bpy-(CHO))] (complex 1) and [Ir(ppy)(bpy-(COOH))] (complex 2), possessed two phenylpyridine ligands and a single R-bipyridine ligand. The formation of the encapsulated species (Q[10]·1 and Q[10]·2) was demonstrated by H NMR and luminescence studies.

This paper presents a hybrid version of the Salp Swarm Algorithm (SSA) for Economic Load Dispatch (ELD) problems with severe constraints. The Adaptive β-hill climbing optimizer (AβHCO) ais hybridized with a newly developed local search method with SSA as a new operator. This hybridization scheme is known as a memetic algorithm, where SSA serves as a natural selection agent (general refinement) in a genotype environment, while AβHCO serves as a culture selection agent (local refinement) in a phenotype environment.

Introduction: 20-Hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid (20-HETE), a metabolite of arachidonic acid catalyzed mainly by cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes CYP4A11 and CYP4F2, plays a role in cardiovascular homeostasis. Elevated levels of 20-HETE are associated with hypertension. Accordingly, 20-HETE is a potential target for therapeutic interventions.

Background: The reverse sural artery flap (RSAF) has emerged as a versatile option for soft tissue reconstruction in the distal lower extremity, particularly when microsurgical expertise or resources are limited. Despite its increasing use, comprehensive multicenter data on its survival outcomes and anatomical site-specific performance remain limited.
Methods: This retrospective multicenter case series included all patients who underwent RSAF for distal lower extremity defects between 2015 and 2024 across military, governmental, private, and academic institutions.

ObjectiveThe present investigation aims to utilize the extract of vanadium pentoxide from spent vanadium catalyst in a tabletop vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB) and a home-designed cell stack. The most commonly used redox couples in VRFB systems are V/V and V/V which typically require the use of costly VOSO standard solution. In this study we propose an alternatve approch by substituting these expensive solutions with more affordable and environmentally friendly option: a VO solution derived from spent catalyst.

Herein, we studied the supramolecular host-guest complexation between cucurbit[7]uril (CB7) and a locked version of flavylium dye (LF) in aqueous solution. CB7 was able to form complexes with LF in its various protonation states as verified by UV-visible and fluorescence spectroscopy, revealing high binding affinities for the cationic and neutral form compared to the anionic one and resulting in complexation induced p shifts. The formation of inclusion complexation was established by H NMR and supported by DFT calculations.
