Diagnosis is often delayed due to nonspecific symptoms and lack of typical infectious signs, sometimes resulting in misdiagnosis. We report a case of a 58-year-old male patient with persistent mandibular pain initially misdiagnosed as trigeminal neuralgia and treated with microvascular decompression surgery without improvement.

Objectives: This study investigated deep learning (DL) systems for diagnosing carotid artery calcifications (CAC) on panoramic radiographs. To this end, two DL systems, one with preceding and one with simultaneous area detection functions, were developed to classify CAC on panoramic radiographs, and their person-based classification performances were compared with that of a DL model directly created using entire panoramic radiographs.

Methods: A total of 580 panoramic radiographs from 290 patients (with CAC) and 290 controls (without CAC) were used to create and evaluate the DL systems.

Coelenterazine (CTZ) and dehydrocoelenterazine (dCTZ, a dehydrogenated form of CTZ) were first identified in the liver of the luminescent squid Watasenia scintillans. In this report, we demonstrate for the first time that CTZ can be successfully converted to dCTZ using molecular sieves (MS4A/Na+, MS13X/Na+, MS5A/Ca2+, and MS3A/K+) in isopropyl alcohol at 37 °C for 3 h. The conversion efficiency to dCTZ followed the order: MS4A/Na+ = MS13X/Na+ > MS5A/Ca2+ > MS3A/K+.
