Article Abstract

We developed a simultaneous analysis method for 13 neonicotinoids and related insecticides in whole blood by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) using a Novum simplified liquid extraction column. The extraction method, which employs an extraction solvent of 16% acetonitrile in ethyl acetate, demonstrated the best performance in terms of balancing phospholipid removal ability, recovery efficiency and matrix effects. Calibration curves showed good linear relationships, with r values exceeding 0.995. The intra- and inter-day accuracies and precisions were 85.5-108.8% and 0.2-13.0%, respectively. The recovery efficiencies were in the range of 52.7-92.7%. Matrix effects were between 60.6 and 201.0%; higher effects were seen for fipronil, which represents a significant challenge that resulted in substantial ion enhancement. Nevertheless, both the accuracy and precision of the method were enhanced by utilization of a stable isotopically-labeled internal standard followed by LC-MS/MS. The method was applied to a human postmortem blood sample collected during a forensic autopsy to demonstrate feasibility; results suggest that this method will be useful for forensic toxicological investigations.

A method for determination of ten kinds of sweeteners in soybean products by multi-plug filtration cleanup (-PFC) combined with ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) was established. The sample was extracted with acetonitrile (containing 1% formic acid), degreased by using -hexane liquid-liquid extraction and purified by solid phase extraction using an -PFC column (Oasis PRiME HLB). The analytes were separated by using a Waters ACQUITY UPLC® BEH C (2.

Vitamin B12 is a vital water-soluble vitamin containing a central cobalt atom within its corrin ring structure. It exists in several derivatives, among which methylcobalamin (MeCbl) and adenosylcobalamin (AdCbl) are the biologically active forms that serve as cofactors in essential enzymatic reactions. Although the neurological and hematological consequences of vitamin B12 deficiency have been extensively studied, its role in immune regulation remains less well understood.

The significant global energy consumption strongly emphasizes the crucial role of net-zero or green structures in ensuring a sustainable future. Considering this aspect, incorporating thermal insulation materials into building components is a well-accepted method that helps to enhance thermal comfort in buildings. Furthermore, integrating architectural components made from solid refuse materials retrieved from the environment can have significant environmental benefits.

Hydrothermal-based Wastewater Solids Management for Targeted Resource Recovery and Decarbonization in the Contiguous U.S.

Wastewater solids management is a key contributor to the operational cost and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of water resource recovery facilities (WRRFs). This study proposes a 'waste-to-energy' strategy using a hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL)-based system to displace conventional energy- and emission-intensive practices. The proposed system directs HTL-produced biocrude to oil refineries and recovers regionally tailored nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizers.

The human kidneys play a pivotal role in regulating blood pressure, water, and salt homeostasis, but assessment of renal function typically requires invasive methods. Deuterium metabolic imaging (DMI) is a novel, noninvasive technique for mapping tissue-specific uptake and metabolism of deuterium-labeled tracers. This study evaluates the feasibility of renal DMI at 7-Tesla (7T) to track deuterium-labeled tracers with high spatial and temporal resolution, aiming to establish a foundation for potential clinical applications in the noninvasive investigation of renal physiology and pathophysiology.
