Purpose: Lower limb muscle strength is often reduced in patients with type 2 diabetes and is associated with a lower quality of life and poorer walking ability. Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) may contribute to muscle weakness, though evidence is inconsistent. No meta-analysis has specifically examined the effect of DPN on lower limb muscle strength. This study aimed to review the literature and assess whether lower limb muscle strength is reduced in individuals with DPN compared to those without DPN.
Methods: MEDLINE, Embase, and CENTRAL were searched for cohort and case-control studies on the association between DPN and lower limb muscle strength in individuals with type 2 diabetes. We pooled mean differences and standard deviations using random effects models. We evaluated the risk of bias in the included studies using the Quality in Prognosis Studies tool and determined the certainty of the evidence using the Grading of Recommendations Assessmet, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) approach.
Results: Overall, 25 studies for qualitative synthesis and 23 (2,798 participants) for meta-analysis were selected. The methodological quality demonstrated a moderate risk of bias in 72% of the included studies. There was low-certainty evidence of an association between DPN and lower extremity muscle strength (standardized mean difference -0.46, 95% CI -0.65 to -0.27).
Conclusions: Patients with type 2 diabetes and DPN may have lower muscle strength than those without DPN. Moreover, they should be informed of the risk of muscle weakness. Further research is needed to identify factors contributing to lower extremity weakness in DPN and determine which muscle groups are most susceptible.

Introduction: This study examined the impacts of different negative pressure cupping therapies (PCT) on pain relief, functional recovery, and inflammatory regulation in delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) after high-intensity exercise, with the aim of clarifying the dose-effect relationship.
Methods: In this study, 55 healthy male participants aged 18-25 were selected and divided into 5 groups: the control group (CTR; = 11) and NPCT groups at different levels (-25 kPa, -35 kPa, -45 kPa, and -55 kPa; = 11 in each group). A high-intensity protocol, which included 6 sets of lunges, squats, and squat jumps, was adopted to induce DOMS in the quadriceps femoris.

This study investigates associations between FMS, SEBT, agility, and muscle strength with injury risk in young female volleyball players to refine prediction models and inform targeted interventions.

With the intensification of population aging, sarcopenia in older adults has become a significant public health issue affecting quality of life. Sarcopenia is a progressive and systemic skeletal muscle disorder characterized by reduced muscle mass, decreased muscle strength, and diminished physical function. Although conventional exercise interventions have shown some efficacy in managing sarcopenia, their effects are limited and often insufficient to effectively halt disease progression.

Introduction: There are limited studies on the long-term effects of COVID-19 on skeletal muscle morphology and architecture. Therefore, this study aims to address this gap by assessing the effects of prior COVID-19 infection on quadriceps muscle architecture and tendon-aponeurosis complex (TAC) properties over a one-year period, comparing three cohorts: individuals with moderate COVID-19, individuals with severe COVID-19, and a healthy control group.
Methods: Seventy participants were included in the study and allocated to three groups: moderate COVID-19 (n = 22), severe COVID-19 (n = 18), and control (n = 30).

Introduction: While exercise interventions are widely used for sarcopenia management, the comparative efficacy of different non-invasive treatments remains unclear. This network meta-analysis evaluated five interventions (aerobic training, resistance training, aerobi-resistance training, whole-body electrical stimulation, and electrical stimulation with protein supplementation) on body composition, physical function and quality of life in elderly sarcopenia patients.
Methods: Six databases, including PubMed, Embase and Web of Science, were systematically searched, and 22 randomized controlled trials with a total of 1062 elderly patients with sarcopenia were finally included.
