Article Abstract

Environmentally friendly food packaging has emerged as a viable strategy to replace traditional plastic films. In this study, eugenol Pickering emulsion was constructed with konjac glucomannan (KGM) and tragacanth gum (GT) as stabilizers, and was introduced into the KGM/chitosan (CS) composite film by electrostatic action to develop a new type of active packaging film. Interfacial characterization revealed optimal emulsion stability at a 1:5 KGM-to-GT mass ratio. Compared to pure KGM and CS films, the KC-KT@EUG films maintained excellent flexibility while demonstrating superior WVP, OP, and UV barrier properties and soil degradability. FTIR and XRD confirmed successful component integration, TGA indicated reduced thermal stability, and SEM showed homogeneous emulsion dispersion in the film matrix. The KC-KT@EUG films exhibited remarkable antimicrobial and antioxidant activities, significantly outperforming PE films (p < 0.05) in decay rate, weight loss, firmness, and soluble solids of blueberries over 9 days of storage. Consequently, shelf life was extended by 10 days, demonstrating the films' great potential for fresh-produce preservation.

Native crystal growth in 60 nm Sb2S3 amorphous film: A joint microscopy-calorimetry study.

Joint direct microscopy-calorimetry measurements of crystal growth were performed for a 60 nm amorphous Sb2S3 film deposited either on a Kapton foil or on a soda-lime glass. Calorimetric crystallization proceeded in two steps, originating either from mechanical and stress-induced defects (230-275 °C) or from homogeneously formed nuclei (255-310 °C); both processes exhibited an identical activation energy of 200 kJ mol-1. At temperatures <230 °C, a Sb2O3 crystalline phase formed along the rhombohedral Sb2S3 structure.

Sequential deposition technique is widely used to fabricate perovskite films with large grain size in perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Residual lead halide (PbI) in the perovskite film tends to be decomposed into metallic lead (Pb) under long-term heating or light soaking. Here, a chiral levetiracetam (LEV) dopant containing α-amide and pyrrolidone groups is introduced into the PbI precursor solution.

Thin films of CuSn Gd S were prepared on soda-lime glass substrates using spin coating in a sulfur-rich environment. We investigated how doping CuSnS with gadolinium (Gd) affected its structural, morphological, and optical properties using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), and UV-Vis spectroscopy. XRD showed that all samples had a polycrystalline monoclinic structure, while FE-SEM revealed a mix of spherical and polygon-shaped grains.

The construction of polymer-based photoactivated room-temperature phosphorescence systems remains a prominent research focus, yet the development of ultrafast activated systems under ambient conditions continues to pose a challenge. In this study, cyclized phenothiazine derivatives bearing diverse substituents are synthesized and incorporated into an amorphous polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) matrix, resulting in significantly enhanced dynamic photoactivation characteristics compared with those of their pristine monomeric counterparts. Under ambient conditions and 2 s irradiation, the lifetime and quantum yield of C[4]PTZ-OH@PVA increase by factors of 1.

Unlabelled: Packaging can be a major source of food contamination. To ensure the safety of the final packaging for the food industry, it is imperative to undertake a thorough assessment of potential contaminants that may come into contact with the food. This examination begins with evaluating the materials used in the production process of the packaging.
